The Jaguar Mk IX (pronounced mark nine) was a short lived Luxury Saloon with about 10,000 examples built in the UK from 1959-1961.  It was the last of the old-school post-war separate fender and upright-grill Jaguars starting with the Mk V in 1948.  The Mk X was considerably more modern in styling, making a well kept Mk IX a very valuable classic indeed.  This 1960 Jaguar Mk IX has had its inline 6 replaced with a Ford 302 V8 and is for sale in Nevada Cty, CA for $19,950 via craigslist.

10k: 1989 BMW 635CSi E24

The E24 generation BMW 6-series was built from 1976-1989 and proved that you didn't need a V8 to build a fantastic grand tourer.  In fact BMW continued to supply torquey and sonorous inline-6 engines in all of its vehicles lines, a practice that today is still kept (albeit all are turbocharged and ///M versions use V8s and econo versions use inline 4s).  This 1989 BMW 635CSi comes from the last year of production of E24s and is for sale in St Louis, MO via ebay offered at $8,955 buy-it-now.

15k: 1965 Buick Gran Sport Wagon - Done Correctly!

Regular DT readers know the truth; Hunsbloger is a Sportwagon/Vista Cruiser Fanboy.  He keeps hoping someone will see these posts and buy him one these rides! Today’s journey into Ebay is going to reveal a really great tribute car which shows How To Modify Your Car Without Scaring Off 90% Of Your Potential Buyers, by comparing it to a severly modified ’64 Sportwagon featured in DT on Nov 15^th, and other vista roof wagons we compared in our DT Musings posted on Nov 16^th.  We'll tell this story in two Parts.  Part I is the car, Part II explains why this auction will work.

PART I - The Car

Buick never made a Gran Sport Wagon, but an Ebay seller named Mike in Aromas, CA armed with enough knowledge about Buick’s version of the Muscle Car and an appreciation for the Family Truckster tackled the task beautifully with this ultra sharp 1965 Gran Sport Tribute Wagon located in Aromas, CA currently bidding on ebay for $16,501 reserve-not-met with 2 days to go.

This car creates a solid first impression due to its high quality paint, chrome, good panel fit and appropriate wheels. The rear window tint is a little dark for our liking, but that can be quickly and easily removed.

The second generation Camaro was introduced in 1970 and sold as a much improved car over the 1st gen.  Unfortunately the styling wasn't nearly as sharp as the previous generation and today 2nd gen Camaros can be found littering yards all over the midwest while their 1st gen old brothers are treated to frame-off restorations and 6 figure prices thanks to inflated Barrett-Jackson auctions...no thanks. 10k: Minty Clean 4x4, 1970 Ford F-100 Ranger

We're in the middle of Weekly Haulrismo Week, the not-so-elegantly-named DT theme that explores cool, interesting, and cheap vehicles to use for hauling all of that holiday debris that seems to accumulate this time of year. You're already draining your bank account buying stuff for other people, so why not indulge a bit and get that classic workhorse you've been fantasizing about? After Monday's clean old "Mustard and Mayo" Suburban, today we're shifting gears (with a long, spindly lever that feels like it's stirring a box of rocks) and taking a look at a Ford pickup. The 5th-generation of F-Series trucks were built from 1967-1972 in the US (and up until 1992 in Brazil!) and represent great value today - clean vintage styling, brawn, simplicity, able to be fixed with a pocket knife and a mallet, and reasonably priced. Take a look at this restored '70 F-100 "Ranger" 4x4 for sale in Chula Vista, CA. It's on ebay bidding near $2k currently, reserve not met, and Buy it Now at $13.9k. We think a final sale price somewhere near $10k would be perfectly reasonable for a gussied-up workhorse like this.

5k: 1983 Lamborghini Jalpa; Some Assy Required

The Lamborghini Jalpa is a lesser known little Lambo built from 1981-1988.  It has the distinction of being one of the higher production Lamborghinis equipped with a V8 engine, with a total of 410 produced.  The name Jalpa comes from a breed of fighting bulls and it looks like today's featured bull has been stuck with a few too many banderillas and is one chop with an estoca away from the glue factory.  This 1983 Lamborghini Jalpa is offered for sale in Baton Rouge, LA and is currently bidding on ebay at $3,350 reserve-not-met with 2 days to go.

15k: 2002 Lexus SC430 - Top Gear's Worst Car in the History of the World

The second generation Lexus SC 430 was a jelly bean shaped folding hardtop convertible sold in the USA from 2001-2010.  On paper it look like a winner, 300 horsepower V8, 2+2 seating - basically a reliable and properly handling competitor to the 911.  Unfortunately the suspension tuning was finalized by escapees from a geriatric care facility and the slushbox auto with torque/power limiting safety nannies and an open diff created a seriously un-fun car.  Top Gear named it the Worst Car in the History of the World.  However, that wouldn't stop us from recommending a used SC430 to someone who really doesn't care about apexes and proper heel-toe techniques..such as our Mom - so we are proud to feature this 2002 Lexus SC430 offered on ebay for $15,500 buy-it-now in Bridgeview, IL.

10k: 1980 Aston Martin Lagonda w/Ford 4.6 V8

The Lagonda was an oddball 4 door sedan from Aston Martin and has the unique distinction of having been on listed on Businessweek's list of "50 Ugliest Cars and Time Magazine's list of "50 Worst Cars of All Time."  Part of the problem is that Aston Martin wholeheartedly embraced every sort of electronic wizardry with a staff of 1950's educated engineers who thought Lucas electrics were as good as Bosch.  This 1980 Aston Martin Lagonda has a Ford 4.6 liter V8 swapped into its engine bay and is currently for sale in Los Angeles, CA, currently bidding on ebay for $11,600 reserve-not-met with 5 days to go.

5k: 1981 BMW 320is 5spd E21

 The E21 generation BMW 3-series was built in Munich and more than 1 million sold around the globe from 1975 to 1983.  It was the yuppie icon in the USA, a perfect way to show the world that you were young, sporty and well-off.  Most of them have since fallen apart due to abuse and neglect, but the nice ones are now starting to be collectable.  This 1981 BMW 320is 5psd is black on black and looks really nice for the $5800 asking price in Pacifica, CA via craigslist. 15k: 2000 Porsche 911 Electric Conversion '9-110V'

Kooky electric cars, such as the electric Saab Sonett and other electric conversions thrive when the original power-train is both expensive to replace and total garbage.  It's not a huge leap to then understand why someone would electrify a 996 since the first generation water-cooled engines are known to develop catastrophic block casing cracks and are un-rebuildable due to Porsche design, setting you back $18k to replace at a dealer. Ouch. This 2000 Porsche 911 996 'Vert electric conversion is for sale in Rancho Santa Fe, CA and currently bidding on ebay for $16,100 reserve-not-met with 1 hr to go.

5k Flash: 1983 Volkswagen GTI Mk1

The Mk1 Volkswagen Golf/Rabbit GTI is the grandaddy of the front wheel drive performance scene.  Many years before Honda was putting out VTEC this and VTEC that, the Mk1 GTI was available in a fuel-injected, front-wheel-drive,  hatchback package that blew the doors off its contemporaries.  Today a new 2013 VW GTI is a great car to drive every day, but heavy, very expensive and offers more safety and security in exchange for less driving fun.  Get back to basics with this 1983 VW GTI Mk1 for sale in Central Jersey via the vwvortex.com forums, asking $4500.

We received an update via our facebook page yesterday giving us some fantastic news.  The Honda City Turbo II we featured on Dec 3rd was picked up by a DT reader Randy C.  In all truthfulness, we almost didn't feature that City Turbo II and just clicked buy-it-now to purchase sight unseen because it will be a long time before we see another one on ebay complete with Motocompo scooter for a reasonable price.  Randy pulled the trigger when he saw the feature and did a fantastic write up of his adventure to buy the HCTII on his carchaeology.com website.  (We are featuring a few excerpts here with his permission.)  Congrats Randy on the new ride and we want a ride when you take a trip to the beach!

5k: 1980 Subaru DL Hatchback 4WD

The Subaru Leone (Italian for Lion) was a compact sedan manufactured by Fuji Heavy Industries from 1971 to 1994 and marketed as the DL in the USA.  It was the predecessor to the extremely successful Subaru Impreza, available as a coupe, sedan, hatchback, truck and wagon, and all Leones were powered by boxer-4 cylinder engines.  This 1980 Subaru DL Hatchback is equipped with a manual transmission, 4WD and is offered for $4500 in Bellevue, NE via craigslist.  Thanks to reader Andy L for the tip!

The W110 Heckflosse (Fintail) was built from 1961-1968 as the affordable 4-cylinder option from Mercedes-Benz and is instantly recognizable from its 50's throwback tailfins.  The W110 is a wretchedly slow car in today's traffic, but it exudes a charm, charisma and tank-like solidity that is unmatched by today's cookie-cutter disposable automobiles.  This 1962 Mercedes-Benz 190 is offered for sale in Long Beach, CA for $8,995 or best offer on ebay.

10k: 1973 BMW 2002 Touring

The BMW 2002 was only sold in two door sedan configuration in the USA - only Europeans could purchase the cool looking Touring edition.  The 2002 Touring was more of a hatch-back and less of a station wagon, but it ads a lot more headroom and a functional rear hatch to the diminutive BMW 2002.  This 1973 BMW 2002 Touring is advertised as recently imported from the Netherlands and for sale on ebay currently bidding at $10k reserve-not-met with 6 days to go.

DT COW: Commenter of the Week: Welfare Queens and Bottles Edition

The Fox body 5.0 Mustang is a sweet rear wheel drive V8 powered coupe that is well depreciated today, but also an icon for mullett sporting trailer denizens throughout the West Virginia hill country.  We did a feature on a minty clean 5.0 and got hilarious comment from a reader, the last bit of it here:

I guarantee if I took this car back to my hometown the welfare queens with 6 kids and a love of Jeebus would be throwing themselves at me. If I drove the 2002 BMW just below this someone would throw a bottle at me and call me the British term for a cigarette.
