16k: Cheapskate: 1992 Maxton Rollerskate

The Maxton Rollerskate is a kit car along the lines of the Noble M12, in that it's classified officially as such (having the engine installed costs extra) but not colloquially. Really, neither belong in the same weight room as a VW-based kit with eastern bloc build quality, or another Gazelle Mercedes SSK or Frazer Nash knock-off. No, this is a genuine rotary-powered sports car hand-built in limited numbers. How limited? Fifty. The one you're looking at is one of eight long-wheelbase versions and the only such example running a fuel-injected engine with rear disc brakes and a limited-slip differential. Some sleuth work reveals an earlier attempt to sell in March 2013, again in February, and yet again via My Classic Garage. Each time, it gets a little closer to a reasonable deal. Find this 1992 Maxton Rollerskate in Media, PA for $15,800 via craigslist.

15k: I Brake For Satan: 1952 VW-Porsche 356 Glockler Spyder Kit Car

We've heaped negative comments on kit-cars that are based on actual classic car designs in the past, mostly because we agree with Carroll Shelby when he ranted about other people designing their own damn cars instead of copying his.  That isn't to say that we don't appreciate the idea of a $20k version of a $200k car, we just think it shouldn't have Porsche emblems on it because...well..it isn't a Porsche.  Anyway, purist nonsense aside, this 1952 VW-Porsche 550 Glockler Spyder Kit Car is for sale in Houston, TX and currently bidding for $17,601 with a few hours to go.

15k: 1979 Lancia Beta HPE; High Performance Estate

Last Sunday we took a look at a little "shooting brake" 2-door wagon from the '70s: this 1972 Ford Pinto. We made the comparison to the much higher-class Volvo 1800ES because of the similarities in the basic spec sheets of the two cars - and not to suggest the Pinto is equivalent in presence or substance! While the Pinto wagon may be as close as you're going to get to a stylish, running & driving shooting brake for $3500, there are other alternatives in the higher price bracket of the 1800ES. Have a gander at this Lancia Beta HPE (High Performance Estate) for example. It's sleek, it's classy, it has two doors and a big glass hatch in back. The only potential downsides to the ownership experience: it's wrong-wheel drive, and it's Italian. The upside: it's Italian. Find it here on ebay for $14000 Buy it Now (or make offer) in Seattle, Washington.

15k Flash: California Cruiser: 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass Convertible

The third generation Oldsmobile Cutlass rides on GM's A-body platform and reminds us of a long ago era when huge two-door coupes ruled the roads and everything was better with racing stripes.  Find this 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass convertible for sale in Sherman Oaks, CA for $14,500  via craigslist.

15k: Unsold Adams Award for Worst PIctures!! 1968 Ford Mustang Fastback

DT regulars are aware that we sometimes issue the Ansel Adams Award for outstanding Photography in an Automotive Ad or Auction.  Well, today, we're offering the Razzies equivalent of that prestigious award... the Unsold Adams Award for worst presentation of an otherwise sellable car.

The seller of this otherwise promise 1968 J-Code Mustang Fastback decided to enroll in Ebay and take a couple of pictures of his apparently abandoned Eleanor/Shelby Tribute car.  The seller hails from the Washington, D.C. suburb of Fairfax, VA. and his complete photo-essay, seen here on ebay with bids already at $16,500 with more than a day left to run.  Come take a tour through this gallery of horrors!!

This lets you know what you're buying and who you're buying from

15k Flash: 1963 Volkswagen Type 2 Shorty Truck

The Volkswagen Type 2 was sold around the world as the Transporter, Kombi or Microbus.  Today, the Type 2 is a cult classic and original versions can fetch some serious bucks at a Barrett-Jackson style auction, but that didn't stop any number of customizers from creating crazy versions of the Type 2 back when you could buy one for the cost of a new pair of Air Jordans.  Find this 1963 Volkswagen Type 2 Shorty Bus for sale in Woonsocket, RI, currently bidding for $8,000 reserve-not-met with a little less than 2 days to go (interesting note: this same truck failed to meet reserve last week at just about $15k, so the seller may have unrealistic expectations baked into his reserve price.)

15k: Deja Volvo; 1973 Volvo 1800ES; Ex-DT Exclusive

Regular readers of the Daily Turismo will recall the exclusive listing for a '73 Volvo 1800ES that we posted on Monday of this week. It generated a huge response and the seller contacted us to give his thanks as it had sold the next day.  We had the feeling that we would see this pumpkin orange model again and it is now for sale again - that was quick.  Find this 1973 Volvo 1800ES here on ebay with buy-it-now of $15,500 $12,500 (edit 3/4/12; BIN has dropped)

15k: Sonderklasse Oil Barge; 1991 Mercedes-Benz 350SD W126 ; Rare

It is really unusual to see the 'rare' badge on an early 1990s Mercedes sedan...a diesel to boot!  But this isn't your ordinary Mercedes 240D or 300D - its a 350SD, only sold in 1990 and 1991 with a total of less than 5000 produced in both short and long wheelbase versions of the W126 Sonderklasse.  This 1991 Mercedes-Benz 350SD W126 is for sale in Scottsdale, AZ for the premium price of $12,500 buy-it-now via ebay.

15k: Saintly Coupe; 1969 Volvo 1800S

Three Thorsdays in a row...that's just how we roll at DT. But unlike yesterday's 245 and Monday's 1800ES, this one is not a wagon. It is, however, one of the best photographed cars currently on ebay and as such earns the coveted Ansel Adams award (disclaimer: photos on ebay not actually taken by Ansel Adams). The car looks to have been fastidiously rebuilt and maintained over the last few decades by the previous owner and the current seller. It's a 1969 1800S, for sale here on ebay in Portland, Oregon. Bidding is currently hovering around $10k with reserve not met, and about four days to go.

15k Flash: 1992 Ford Sierra Cosworth Race Car

The Ford Sierra RS Cosworth was a souped up version of the Sierra, built specifically to homologate the race cars for Group A racing in Europe.  They were never sold on this side of the Atlantic and it's probably immaterial because this car is located in Europe and likely not legal for street use...anywhere.  This 1992 Ford Sierra Cosworth race car is for sale on ebay, currently bidding for $16,100 and located in Prague, Czech Republic (not Czechoslovakia - that was dissolved 19 years ago).

15k: Texas Toast and Crumpets; 1971 Jensen Interceptor

The Jensen Interceptor followed the classic formula of big American V8 shoved into a European body.  You can expect to see one destroyed in the soon to be released 6th installment of the Fast and Furious movie franchise, or you can buy one for less than the cost of a new Civic.  This 1971 Jensen Interceptor is for sale in Eugene, OR currently bidding on ebay for $15,600 reserve-not-met with a few hours to go.

15k: Immaculate Alpinaweiß 1991 BMW E34 M5

It's not often we come across a clean E34 M5 - these were the last of a breed, with a strong high-revving handbuilt 6-cylinder engine, classic late '80s / early '90s clean Euro styling, and the quintessential BMW proportions introduced back on the Neue Klasse cars in 1962. The E34 is much more modern and complex, but still reminds us of the good old E3/Bavaria and E28 sedans - and that's a good thing. This sanitary Alpinaweiß (Alpine white) example looks to be well loved and well maintained over the years, and would be a great alternative to an E90 3-series at less than half the price. Find it here on craigslist for $14500 or best offer in Orange County, CA.

15k: 1958 MG MGA; Vintage

The MGA was one of the first majorly restyled cars from Morris Garages after World War II and represented a significant break from traditional open-fender styling.  Today the MGA is a surprisingly affordable car for all of its sleek 1950's styling and a good example will cost you less than the rustiest Jag/Austin-Healey/Mercedes junk pile from the same era.  This 1958 MG MGA coupe is for sale in Monterey, CA currently bidding at $8,000 reserve-not-met with 2 days to go.

15k: 1978 Porsche 911 SC; LS1 Swap!

The Porsche 911 is motoring icon, a classic, something that is sipped rather than swigged and treated with care.  Shoving an American V8 into the back is the equivalent of mixing Olde English with Dalmore 40 year old single malt...and we love every tail-sliding, tire-chirping, gurgly-idling inch of it.  This 1978 Porsche 911 SC has a GM LS1 V8 in the back and is for sale in Texas City, TX currently bidding on ebay for $13,100 with 2 days to go.

15k: 2011 Ford Flex; 3.5 V6 EcoBoost TwinTurbo; Warp Speed Ahead

The Ford Flex is a large crossover sport utility vehicle released into the wild in the 2009 model year.  At introduction it was powered by a simple V6, but in 2010 it become available with the optional twin turbocharged EcoBoost engine to create what is the worlds fastest stock 7 passenger vehicle without an AMG emblem.  This 2011 Ford Flex w/ EcoBoost V6 is for sale in Redford, MI currently bidding on ebay for $13,099 with 6 days to go.

15k: 1988 BMW M3, Clean Alpine White E30,

The E30 generation BMW M3 is a rare sight on the pages of the Daily Turismo as most examples that aren't salvaged titled wrecks have long ago appreciated to silly prices.  It's probably because the E30 M3 is a wickedly fun car to drive and built like a tank, but nonetheless we will claim it's because the well-to-do E30 fan-boys far exceed the production numbers causing a supply shortfall and demand surplus.  Regardless, this 1988 BMW M3 for sale in LA, CA looks to be a smokin deal at $18,500 for the condition and miles.

15k: Incredible Survivor 1957 Oval Window VW Beetle

This 1957 Volkswagen is probably one of the most original and complete "Oval Window" Beetles left in existence. It was sold new in Portugal, rested in a barn for many many years, and was given a sympathetic refresh and re-commissioning by an absolutely fanatical and uncompromising car guy in the UK. The end result is essentially a 39k mile like-new '57 Beetle with only a bit of light patina to show for its 56 years of age. It is being sold by the current owner who purchased it after the refurb in 2011, and is now available here on TheSamba.com forums in North Wales, for £11000 ($17750, or €13550). We know this is a bit above the normal DT price range - but it seems like an incredible survivor car for the right type of owner. We will even restrain from making our normal snide comments about how slow VW Beetles are and how they handle like oxcarts (OK, except for that one).
