It's sad to see what was once a cool, interesting and significant car become a donor. The Lancia Flavia, like all pre-FIAT Lancias, was an engineer's car, designed and built without regards to price, and Lancia lost money on every one sold. To me, this car looks too far gone to be restored, and being parting out is its future. A sad fate for a car designed by a Professor of Mechanical Engineering. The Lancia Stratos HF was a Bertone designed rally machine that was designed as a replacement for the aging Fulvia Coupe. It had radical for the time (but gorgeous upon reflection) styling by Marcello Gandini and was powered by Ferrari built Dino V6, but with only 492 built for homologation purpose, it won't be something the average Joe can afford, or ever drive on a regular basis. This next car has many names. During development, it was called the Fiat X1/8, but when production moved to Pininfarina (who also did the styling) it was called the Beta Montecarlo (later just Montecarlo), but GM used the Montecarlo name (for the A-body coupe that is pretty much the polar opposite of the Lancia), so for the US market it was called the Scorpion...fitting because it packs a little stinger in the back. Commenter RyanM and regular contributor Kaibeezy were onto something when they posted a curated list of finds off their local Craigslist. Here in the Northwest we seem to have nearly as many elderly Italian cars as the Bay Area. I attribute it to the Boeing effect still echo-ing around the area (the software industry nouveau riche prefer brand new stuff). Plus, even though it rains here most of the time, we don't use salt and its more of a drizzle for days vs. heavy rain (come visit, but don't move here), so the Italian stuff hasn't rusted in half.
