Like A Heavyweight M100 Elan: 1987 Cadillac Allanté

The Cadillac Allante (Allanté) was another attempt by one of the big three cash in on the allure of the European import; think Chrysler TC by Maserati or AMC Eagle Premier -- but with an accent in the name causing grief for search features and web indexing in the future.  I also can't help but draw comparisons to the '90s Lotus Elan -- also a two-seat front-drive convertible with an engine built in a different continent from the body, but the Allante packed an extra 1600 lbs (approx the mass of a full Regardless, this next version is offered for some spare change...but would it be worth it? Twin Spark: 1996 Alfa Romeo Spider Tipo 916

The Alfa Romeo Spider built from 1995-2006 was a replacement for the aging Alfa Spider Giulia (1966-1993).  The Pininfarina designed exterior was a radical step forward in looks, but regrettably the car moved onto a transverse longitudinal front drive set up shaped with the contemporary GTV. The tipo 916 Spider was never sold new in the US of A, but you could get one in Canada...so now that they are 25 years old, import one yourself today. Pininfarina Legacy for Pennies: 1991 Alfa Romeo 164

The Alfa Romeo 164 was designed by Enrico Fumia (designer of Grifo D'Oro Bertone, Siata Spring, Ferrari F90 & Lancia Ypsilon) when he worked at design house Pininfarina. The angular design was part of the Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Lancia and Saab cooperative agreement to develop the Type Four platform, which produced the Lancia Thema, Saab 9000, Fiat Croma and Alfa Romeo 164.  They are a cool sight on the road today -- equally stunning and stealthy, and I'd love to daily drive one if I didn't actually need to get to work each day. Italian Vert: 1978 Fiat 124 Spider

When you think of classic affordable roadsters, you'll first think of the ubiquitous Mazda MX-5 Miata...but it is far too new and common, I'm talking about cars like the MGB, Alfa-Romeo Spider, Datsun Fairlady/Sports 1600...but there's another option in this genre that is often overlooked, still fairly plentiful, and worth consideration as a respectable alternative (if you don't have a healthy fear of rust). We are referring to the Fiat 124 Spider, which was designed by Dutch-American legend Tom Tjaarda and built in a remarkable multiple decade production lifespan starting in 1966 and ending in 1985.  The later ones have big rubber bumpers, raised ride height, and more safety weight...but they also have less rust. It seems that many of the Porsche 365 Speedster replicas floating around on the street are of a quality to be almost indistinguishable from the real deal by anyone except a real Poooooooorsche aficionado. Slow Is The New Fast: 1976 Fiat X1/9

I had a friend who was a fellow speed junkie/car guy, but he swore up and down (actually, he swore a lot...probably too much...and drank like aaaanyway... I digress) that the most fun he ever had in a car was when he owned a Fiat X1/9.  The little 1.3 liter engine pushed out something less than 75 horsepower, but you had to use each and every single one of those squirrels in cages to keep up with traffic and it was a blast.  I'm not so convinced...but I'd give it a try for this price.
