15k Mile Ragtop: 1992 Chevrolet Corvette C4 Convertible

There is something about an older car that is free from dirt/grime that just makes me happy...and it probably has something to due with the fact that most of my classics have been well used and abused.  This next car is shockingly clean on the underside for a 27 year old car and has about 500 miles per year on the odo...and the price is great?  What's the catch? Low Miles: 2000 Toyota MR2 Spyder

The 3rd generation (W30) Toyota MR2 Spyder was the last version of Toyota's mid engine runabout to be sold anywhere in the world.  It was a decent handling little car and I recall driving one new at a dealer's lot back around the year 2000; it was light and superbly balanced.  Prices are cheap today on the used market, but you don't find many with only 27k miles on the odo...so this one is cool. Underappreciated Classic: 1981 BMW 633CSi

When will the E24 generation BMW 6-series get the market attention and love it deserves?  Oh...I'm not supposed to say that?  I'm just supposed to keep my mouth shut and let all the sheeple go and spend their money on Porsche 911s and over restored Camaros?  Okay.  Right.  Nothing to see here. Minty Convertible: 1983 Ford Mustang LX

I've always been a moderate fan of Ford's Fox-body Mustang -- it does offer a decent platform with manual gearboxes, rear-wheel-drive, and V8 power -- but with an emphasis on the later models that offer fuel injected engines and more power...but recently I've become obsessed with the quad-headlight Fox models...because..well...more is more.  Find this 1983 Ford Mustang LX offered for $7,500 in Austin, TX via craigslist. Blue Plated: 1972 Toyota Celia ST

The Toyota Celica first hit US shores in 1971 as the Japanese translation of the Ponycar.  The Celica might not have been powered by fuel thirsty V8s, but the long-hood short-deck styling was perfect for a 7/8th scale Mustang/Camaro/Challenger. Golden Oldie: 1968 Oldsmobile Toronado

The Oldsmobile Toronado was a groundbreaking car for a number of reasons -- but it wasn't the first front wheel drive 'Murican car there was a Cord 810 back in 1936...nor was it the first car with a rotating drum style speedo, (although the Toronado and Riviera both used the drum with the miles/hr written on the drum, but look at all those old speedos that use a 'sliding bar' display, like the 1957 Buick etc. It is actually a painted drum as wide as the display with a diagonally split red/white surface.  As the drum rotates and the 'window' is a slit, the display appears as  a bar/ribbon which grows from left to right).  It also wasn't the first car with side marker lights, or shoulder harness for safety belts.. see every 1968 GM product as well as those pesky FMVSS Regs....BUT the Toronado did have a sweet hidden headlamps and a body shape that is wicked, so this car still gets three thumbs up.  Find this 1968 Oldsmobile Toronado offered for $7000 in Austin, TX via craigslist. Double Mack: 1959 Volkswagen Bus

The original Volkswagen Beetle "People's Car" aircooled rear-drive platform was adapted over the years to just about every possible kind of vehicle, from the people hauling Bus/Van to the off-road ready Thing...but I don't believe VW ever built a semi-truck version. Jinba ittai 35k Miles: 1994 Mazda MX-5 Miata

A used MX-5 Miata is great little inexpensive sports car for anybody who enjoys driving and prices are very cheap these days.  It might be because Mazda built a million of the little machines...no seriously, in 2016 Mazda produced the MILLIONTH MX-5.  But, finding one from the first generation with 35k miles in immaculate condition isn't an everyday occurance. This next car looks almost too good to be true -- a low mile Porsche offered for less than 5-large with what looks like perfect paint.  And then I found the reason for the low price "Please email me with full and complete sentences to set up a time to view the car."  With my experience with buyers on craigslist, this car could be offered for a LONG time...but I completely agree with the seller's request.  Find this 1983 Porsche 944 offered for $4,500 in Santa Cruz, CA via craigslist.

Super Man Gearbox: 2003 BMW M3 E46

If you want a late model car that looks good, goes fast, and gets lots of middle fingers from other drivers, look no further than an E46 M3. Seriously, I should know, I recently picked one up as a daily driver replacement for my 04 STI...and while the STI got interesting looks from people who assumed the owner was 18 years old and vaping (I assure you I am NEITHER) the BMW gets a completely different amount of disrespect from everyone who assumes you are a spoiled rich brat who doesn't use blinkers (once again, I assure you I use blinkers and am old enough to remember the 70s). Regardless, the E46 with SMG gearbox offers a moderately civilized driving experience on the open road, and a neck-snapping grin-inducing experience on the track that is hard to beat for the entry price...but not for long because prices are creeping up. Bracq Friday: 1971 Mercedes-Benz 250 W114

The Mercedes-Benz W114 occupies one of those weird niches in the classic car world - it's old enough to be gazed upon fondly through the tint of nostalgia, yet not particularly revered among Euro car guys. Perhaps it's because it's the successor of the hipster-cool Heckflosse / Fintail sedans, but the predecessor of the granola munchers' standard-issue W123, and doesn't stand out as much as either of those generations.
