Lincoln first released their attempt at the luxury pickup in 2002 with the Blackwood...which didn't sell many (3300 according to interweb sources) and was canceled within 15 months of launch. This is all the money (and then some) for a '93 Lincoln Town Car...but if you are in the market for something strange from the 90s with super low miles...you don't have many choices. But the only problem with this car is that you can't drive it. The second the odo turns into quintuple digits, the fun is over. So you've got about 2100 miles before you've got to park it again or take a $10k hit on the "value". Is it just me, or has this car collecting thing turned into stamp collecting? The late 70s Continental was never a sporty car. It was marked by Lincoln as a personal luxury coupe with an emphasis on the luxury. The 3rd and final generation of the Lincoln Town Car was built from 1998 through 2011 on a chassis shared with the Ford Crown Victoria, Mercury Grand Marquis/Marauder, and Hongqi Qijian. Out of the million Town Cars built in this generation, a few were of the plus "long wheelbase" version that added 6 inches of rear seat legroom, and remote access to the climate control and radio. This particular long wheelbase Town Car was ostensibly used by a Moroccan Diplomat, but you will feel like royalty no matter your actual station in life when you ride in the back of this thing. I don't know how often you guys drive new cars, but I'm always impressed at the way the new large vehicles drive -- they don't have the ponderous heft that 6000 lb trucks had from a few years ago...maybe its modern technology, maybe its some magic, but it is nice...not nice enough to justify the monstrous price tag when new...but wait 10-12 years and suddenly...it might make sense. Take the third generation Lincoln Navigator, for instance -- it rides on the Ford F-150/Expedition chassis and seats 7 people in supreme comfort. A basic rugged SOHC 5.4 liter Triton V8 pushes power to an independent rear end (did the Navigator REALLY get IRS before the Mustang...sheesh) and the long wheelbase version is the one to get. The third and final generation Lincoln Town Car was sold from 1998 until 2011. Panther platform fans, taxi companies, and police departments all over the US bemoaned the eventual death knell of body of frame Town Car, Crown Vic, and Grand Marquis. Town Cars came stock with 16" wheels fitted with tall smooth riding 60 series tires. Today's feature goes way in the opposite direction by fitting a absolutely bananas set of 26" wheels and rubber band tires to donk out this poor TC. I had the opportunity to browse the current Lincoln model lineup at the LA Auto show a few days ago and it wasn't exactly invigorating...or exciting...or impressive. Frankly, the monstrous Navigator is the only vehicle that makes an impression, but the rest of the lineup is somewhere between meh and blah.
