I am loath to post anything from the Faceplace Marketbach, but now that craigslist charges a small fee ($5 at printing time) it seems that many cheap sellers have migrated to Zucks world.  I'll be the first to admit that I'm a Luddite when it comes to social media and all things Web 2.0, but it is exactly because Twitter is the worlds largest men's room wall writing surface, and Facebook is the worlds largest echo chamber...a safe space for you to say the things you shouldn't in public and be shamed for saying the things you should...so I try and avoid it in the same way that I avoid wearing a dead bat as an improvisational N95 facemask. However...HOWEVER...there are times when things posted on thefacemask need to be shared with the rest of the world who aren't stuck in the BubbleBook...particularly when they are El Camino'd Japanese coupes. At the risk of sounding like an old codger...I'm going to say that "back in my day" if you wanted to modify your pickup truck, it usually involved some knobby tires and removing a few letters from the tailgate to spell "yota." But this...this is a whole 'nother level of customization and will probably end up in the Swiss Museum of Art Brut someday. Dies el Camino: 2006 Volkswagen Jetta TDI Pickup

In 1967 when John Lennon wrote and later performed his hit "All You Need Is Love", he was naturally lauded for his optimism and simplicity in focus.  However...he wasn't quite correct.  Because if I had been the 5th Beatle, I would have insisted that we sack this George Harrison character, and then re-title the song "All You Need Is Love And An El Camino".  That about covers it. Enthusiasm for WVO grease cars seems to have waned considerably from the peak in the early 2000s.  Today's unique two door w123 Mercedes does have one trend that enthusiasts still can't seem to get enough of: car in the front and truck in the back or Camino-ization.  There are not any new Camino style cars sold in the USA right now.  A cottage industry converting late model Jetta's has sprung up to feed the void left by the retirement of the Ranchero, Camino, Brat, Baja, Rampage, and VW Caddy.  This grease burning diesel Camino's lack of computers will make every doomsday prepper's heart flutter.  Find this 1979 Mercedes 240D for sale in Washago, Ontario for $1,600 via kiijiji.

You Had Me At "La Strada": 1979 BMW 335 ElCsi

I could be biased, but nobody does stuff better than the Italians.  While the rest of the world was living in animal-skin huts the Italians built the worlds oldest still functioning building (the Pantheon) out of stone. A few centuries later the Italians created what is certainly the most beautiful fine art ever conceived with marble, oil, and canvas. Out of all the cars that I've seen El Camino'd, this is a first. For some reason the cheeky little British sports car from Morris Garage have been spared the ignominy of having the tail cutoff -- probably because convertibles are already roofless and removing the trunk top is strange to say the least.  Anyway, find this 1971 MG MGB offered for $35,000 in Palm Desert, CA via Hemmings.

Might Be A Car: 1983 Suzuki Mighty Boy

You Little Trucker: 1966 Austin Mini turned Kenworth

The long term effects of amphetamines and barbiturates, the tool of the 1970's trucker, and a dabble of LSD can be studied using this rolling Rorschach test. Likely devised while licking the last bit of truck-stop cheese grits from the bowl in a 4AM meth-and-Jolt induced fog, this rig, let's call it the Waste-ern Star, was comprised of one half Austin Mini and one half of a lifetime of bad decisions. Sportbakless: 1988 Nissan Pulsar NX-Camino

Loony Labor Day: 1995 Lincoln Ranchero Town Truck
