The Dodge Shadow Knows: 1987 Shelby CSX #27 of 750

Something must have been in the electrons at the May 2020 Barrett-Jackson online auction that closed the other day because somebody paid a scandalous $20,350.00 for an '84 Dodge Daytona Turbo.  It wasn't even a Shelbyfied version and the trunk wasn't full of Breitling watches, so I don't know what to say.  I thought that this coronavirus thing would have caused some of the stupidity in the used/classic car market to calm down just due to general anxiety around what the next year will look like fiscally to most people...but the guy who dropped twenty large for an 84 Daytona probably isn't living paycheck to paycheck or concerned about his job...but maybe paying too much at auction is the latest symptom of COVID19?  It all seems so batty to me....but if I'm gonna drop a whole bunch of money on a used front-drive K-car variant Dodge, it's gonna be a Shelby. OG Minivan: 1989 Dodge Grand Caravan SE

The daddy of the modern minivan was built on a modified version of Chrysler's K-Car platform with which it shared engines and much running gear, but the backbone was something that Lee Iacocca and Hal Sperlich called the T-115 platform...which was just a beefy version of the K-car. The Chrysler minivan was billed as an alternative to the station wagon and many years later we know that it completely replaced the wagon (and is now being superceded by the 3-row SUV...but that is a story for another time) and today's example is shockingly well preserved. I love a good classic American 70s wagon as much as the next guy, but I was frankly astounded and flabbergasted when I discovered that a 5k mile 78 Ford LTD Country Squire sold on Bringatrailer.com for an eye watering $45,000 yesterday.  Forget the corona virus, there is a far greater threat to humanity -- the paytoomuchforoldcrap virus!!  Yes, it has awesome wood siding and the odo shows a shocking low number of miles...BUT...BUT...you can't drive it because it'll soon have 10k miles and then 50k miles and then be worth about $3k.  Yes, your 401k is shedding $45k every time the virus rate is updated, but there is no reason to throw money away at the time when the economic future is uncertain...so you should consider, instead, picking up this 1979 Dodge Aspen Wagon offered for $3000 in Pearce, AZ via craigslist. Breath of Fresh Air: 1994 Dodge Viper RT/10

This next car comes a tip from Jeff who writes: I know this is over the DT price threshold and don't expect you to post, but just thought I'd share a great example of depreciation. Sure, a V10 Viper putting out 400+ horsepower doesn't sound like much by today's standards, but just look at this thing..... an epic buy for $27k-ish.  Still looks like a 6-figure exotic simply rolling down the road.  I agree that this thing is epic for the price and it is a steal compared to all of the overpriced 993s, MkIV Supras, F355s, and E30 M3s -- THIS is the answer. The Dodge Daytona is a moped in the automotive landscape...one of those vehicles that is fun to ride until your friends find out.  It is also a "dirty secret longing" car...where you might like one, but you don't admit to anyone...but I'm here to yell it loud and proud -- The Daytona Turbo is awesome and you should own one or two or three. Multi-Tasker: 1990ish Dodge 1500 Ram Pickup Forklift

What is red, white, and can pull its own motor? Yeah. a Dodge pickup with a forklift hanging out the back.  The fork lift pickup might seem like an odd vehicle, but I've seen many running around the street hauling dumpsters from behind apartment complexes to the street for the big trash machine to do the dumping. Personally, I'd like to have one to drive around and use for various tasks around the yard/garage/house (wash the windows on the 2nd floor?), but you'll need to get a title because this one isn't street legal according to the seller. This next car comes from tipper Jeff who writes: The only IROC i ever knew of was the Camaro! That's right, the IROC (International Race of Champions) badge is normally seen on Chevy's Camaro, but Dodge also used the badge on their Daytona and it was very similar to the Shelby Daytona with a 2.2 liter turbo-4 putting 224 horsepower to the front wheels. Star Wars Tribute: 1979 Dodge Van

This next van, like all vans, exudes a certain degree of sketchiness...not to the level of the infamous "Free Candy" van, but its on the spectrum.  However, with the sweet Star Wars graphics, rad staggered mag wheels, and roof mounted wing, you are far more likely to attract 40-something year old men named Kevin instead of little kids. You know what they say -- they are only original once.  To that I've added a corollary that states: I'd rather have original faded paint than a cheap respray.  Even a nice paint job isn't going to be as well adhered to the metal as the factory paint--don't ask me why, I'm not a chemist, but I can tell you that I'd love to have the experience of an original paint classic like this next car.
