Something must have been in the electrons at the May 2020 Barrett-Jackson online auction that closed the other day because somebody paid a scandalous $20,350.00 for an '84 Dodge Daytona Turbo.  It wasn't even a Shelbyfied version and the trunk wasn't full of Breitling watches, so I don't know what to say.  I thought that this coronavirus thing would have caused some of the stupidity in the used/classic car market to calm down just due to general anxiety around what the next year will look like fiscally to most people...but the guy who dropped twenty large for an 84 Daytona probably isn't living paycheck to paycheck or concerned about his job...but maybe paying too much at auction is the latest symptom of COVID19?  It all seems so batty to me....but if I'm gonna drop a whole bunch of money on a used front-drive K-car variant Dodge, it's gonna be a Shelby. Future Classic? 1986 Shelby Dodge Charger

Time to highlight a limited production turbocharged hatchback '80s machine because they are cheap and fun!  The '80s Dodge Charger was a Dodge Omni masquerading as a Charger - an emasculated version of a once brutal tire burning muscle machine...until Carroll Shelby got his 10-gallon hat involved and made a hot version.  Anything with the legendary Texas chicken farmer's name on the side (and the seats, glove box door, belts..etc) is probably gonna be worth more than scrap value in the future, so get this one while it is cheap! Get 'Em While They're Cheap: 1995 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra

Production of Ford's wicked SVT Cobra started in 1993 when the boxy Fox body was still the chassis of choice, but those 1993 models are bloody expensive given their relative rarity and the fanboy entourage surrounding the Fox platform.  However, in 1994 Ford released the SN-95 Mustang SVT Cobra, which was faster and better in almost every category except boxyness, and those are still quite cheap these days.  Find this 1995 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra here on eBay offered for $4,800 buy-it-now located in Fontucky, CA.

In the late 80s Carroll Shelby followed his tried and true method of hot-rodding a pedestrian car by shoehorning a V8 into a small package (and plastering his name all over it), this time the diminutive Dodge Dakota pickup!.  Oversize graphics harken back to an era when graphics were a replacement for actual engine horsepower due to EPA mandated emissions requirements. Future Classic: 2007 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500

Everything Shelby has been hot for the past few decades.  Probably longer than that, but you can't touch an actual Shelby anything for less than retirement sized lumps of cash, except those Shelby Dodges, but they've got some years before they become collectible.  Regardless if you want to get a Shelby Mustang that won't break the bank you'll have to find something that isn't new enough to be near MSRP, but not old enough to be "cool."  Find this 2007 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 offered for $19500 via Memphis, TN craigslist. I always chuckle when I think about how Carroll Shelby spent much of his time suing companies who built Shelby Cobra replica cars when it was AC Cars gorgeous Ace that is being plagiarized by every Tom, Dick, & Harry with the space to make a few welded frame chassis and fiberglass molds. Carroll Shelby Tribute and Car Show 2016

This past weekend of was the 4th Annual Carroll Shelby Tribute and Car Show located at the Shelby International building in Gardena, CA.  If you like Shelby cars, this is a must see event featuring a cornucopia of Shelby Mustangs, Shelby Cobras, Ford GT40s, and even a few Shelby Dodges from the 80s.  As always the event featured a 1PM rev for Carroll (you can hear it on our video below), but this year a Spirit of Competition panel was on stage to discuss Adam Carolla's to-be-released documentary "The 24 Hour War".

Pilot Build: 1984 Shelby Charger

I gotta start watching what I say around here.  There was a feature from June of this year where I may have said that the Plymouth Shadow was a pitiful front wheel drive crapcan assembled by the blind and accidentally purchased by people who thought they were signing up for the Publishers Clearing House sweepstakes.  A few months later the owner of the featured car (Cold Burn) comes on and says lol that's my car...  LOL indeed, because Cold Burn's car was the Shelbyized version and it was sweet! However, things take a turn for the ugly when Shadow Queen writes: Every person that knows anything about cars at least appreciates the Shadow, even if it's not their thing. They're powerful but light, which makes them exceptionally fast. There is nothing weak about them. Whoever wrote this obviously is "pathetic" and has no taste.  I'm not LOLing anymore.  So, in an effort to make amends with the pathetic crapcan unloved classic owners, I'm going to be positive about this next car.  Find this 1984 Shelby Charger bidding here on eBay for $9,500 reserve-not-met located in Easton, PA.
