The Dodge Shadow Knows: 1987 Shelby CSX #27 of 750

Something must have been in the electrons at the May 2020 Barrett-Jackson online auction that closed the other day because somebody paid a scandalous $20,350.00 for an '84 Dodge Daytona Turbo.  It wasn't even a Shelbyfied version and the trunk wasn't full of Breitling watches, so I don't know what to say.  I thought that this coronavirus thing would have caused some of the stupidity in the used/classic car market to calm down just due to general anxiety around what the next year will look like fiscally to most people...but the guy who dropped twenty large for an 84 Daytona probably isn't living paycheck to paycheck or concerned about his job...but maybe paying too much at auction is the latest symptom of COVID19?  It all seems so batty to me....but if I'm gonna drop a whole bunch of money on a used front-drive K-car variant Dodge, it's gonna be a Shelby. SHELBY, SHELBY, SHELBY: 1991 Dodge Shadow Convertible

The early 1980's were a particularly dark time for performance cars.  Chrysler CEO Lee Iaccoca's product line got a kick in the ass after signing legendary car builder Carroll Shelby to work his magic. Shelby turbo charged every K-car he could get his hands on.  The party ended in 1989 with the Shadow based CSX model.  Today's car was home built by a engineer as a Shelby concept/tribute car to exceed the specs called for on the 89 CSX.  Find this 1991 Dodge Shadow Convertible for sale in Harrison Township, MI for $9,126 via craigslist.

 The Dodge Shadow and Plymouth Sundance were entirely underwhelming econoboxes sold to the masses from 1987 through 1994.  Even the nicest all original Shadowdance isn't worth more than acheap flashlight from Harbor Freight, and most have ended up in junk yards or crushed  However, a precious few were given a touch of something interesting from the legendary chicken farmer/racer Carroll Shelby-- and those ones are worth preserving.  Find this 1987 Shelby CSX Turbo offered for $4,500 in Duarte, CA via craigslist.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again -- anything touched by the ten gallon hat sporting Texas chicken farmer is gonna be worth something in the future.  It doesn't really matter how terrible the donor chassis was, or what sort of shortsighted bean counters ruined the original version, but if Carroll Shelby put his name on the side of a Radio Flyer, fat cats would drop big money on clean examples under air conditioned tents at big name auctions.  The bare bones could even be the totally underwhelming Dodge Shadow/Plymouth Sundance...or have I gone too far?  Find this 1987 Dodge Shelby CSX offered for $5,700 via Cincinnati craigslist.   Tip from FuelTruck.

The Shelby CSX was a Carroll Shelby hot rodded version of the Dodge Shadow that added a high power engine, stiffer springs/shocks, Shelby specific interior, and Shelby fiberglass composite wheels to what was otherwise an abysmal front driver economy car.  The CSX was meant to be a fun car for a twisty road or a track day, so this one, like all CSXs, was only available with a 5-speed manual gearbox.  However, this next CSX has pulled a bit of a Bruce Jenner.  Its had its transmission swapped into a stickless version and now its setup for the 1/4 mile sprint.  Find this 1987 Shebly CSX here on eBay currently bidding for $3,550 reserve-not-met with 1 day to go and buy-it-now of $5,999 located in Tomball, TX.
