Something must have been in the electrons at the May 2020 Barrett-Jackson online auction that closed the other day because somebody paid a scandalous $20,350.00 for an '84 Dodge Daytona Turbo. It wasn't even a Shelbyfied version and the trunk wasn't full of Breitling watches, so I don't know what to say. I thought that this coronavirus thing would have caused some of the stupidity in the used/classic car market to calm down just due to general anxiety around what the next year will look like fiscally to most people...but the guy who dropped twenty large for an 84 Daytona probably isn't living paycheck to paycheck or concerned about his job...but maybe paying too much at auction is the latest symptom of COVID19? It all seems so batty to me....but if I'm gonna drop a whole bunch of money on a used front-drive K-car variant Dodge, it's gonna be a Shelby. Find this 1987 Shelby CSX offered here on eBay for $11,900 or best-offer located in Grand Rapids, MI.

Super Vegan Option: 1984 Ford Mustang SVO

This next car was inspired by DT tipper BP who wrote: Aren't these on the $ way up now? SVO Mustang and included a link to an 86 SVO that was offered for $13,500 on Hemmings, and these two articles on Hemmings and Hagerty talking about the future collectability and current market of the SVO. Personally I think that $13,500 is looney toons money for that red SVO, so I'll counter with this 1984 Ford Mustang SVO offered for $5,800 in Orange County, CA via craigslist.Monday, August 5, 2019
Seller Submission: 1991 BMW M5 E34

The E34 generation BMW M5 has been a favorite around this site, mostly because it offers a level of speed and exclusivity that is hard to beat. And if you don't remember, DT's own CFlo owned an E34 M5 for a few years and loved every minute of the screaming inline-6 powered beast. Today's E34M5 comes as a seller submission from our friend Jay who offers it somewhere in the mid range of what you'd expect for this car to bring at a BaT auction. Find this 1991 BMW M5 E34 offered for $21,500 in Los Angeles, CA via craigslist.

Almost 30 Years Old: 1990 Acura Legend

This next car comes from tipper Jeff who writes: The words "restored" and "Acura Legend" aren't typically used together, but a clean/low miles ride nonetheless. Couldn't have said it better myself! Find this 1990 Acura Legend offered for $5950 in Jacksonville, FL via craigslist.Monday, April 8, 2019
I'm Mighty Shocked: 1999 Porsche 911 Carrera 2

Who says a 911 is a rich man's car? Well...the mechanic might think so...but if you've got another car for when the 911 is getting its interplanetary marmon spindle (IMS...just google 996 IMS and read all about it) replaced then the 996 is a car you could drive every other day of the year without needing a second job or a rich daddy. Find this 1999 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 offered for $10,500 in Paradise Valley, AZ via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.Wednesday, August 15, 2018
Lotta Beef For The Coin: 2003 Jaguar XJR
This next car comes from tipper Art C who artfully sums it up when he writes: Wow. Too cheap to be true? Or just cheap enough to take a flyer on it?? Oil around breather is worrisome, but other than that? Wow. Thats a lotta beef for $1500 realistically. Yeah, that is lot of supercharged big cat for the cash. Find this 2003 Jaguar XJR offered for $1950 in Bayside Queens, NY via craigslist.

NACA Ducted: 1980 Porsche 924 Turbo

The Porsche 924 was first released in 1976 as an example of what a simple engine and light chassis can achieve together. Unfortunately, a decent quantity of negative press has been heaped on the Audi van/sedan engine used to power the lithe little coupe...but in 1979 Porsche was kind enough to introduce a turbocharged version with a few more ponies and a sweet NACA duct on the hood for extra emphasis. Think of it as the automotive styling equivalent of an exclamation point. 924. 924 Turbo! Find this 1980 Porsche 924 Turbo offered for $5900 in Las Vegas, NV via craigslist.Monday, May 14, 2018
Unusually Good Condition: 1978 Porsche 924

If you are on the hunt for a low buck car that wears the Porsche badge forget about the 911/912 -- the bargains are long gone. Even the prices of the 914 have shot through the roof -- blame the Luftgekühlt crowd for that one...but if you want a cheap Porsche that is cooler than a Boxster (sorry...great cars...not old enough to be "cool" yet...give 'em time!) look for a 924. Find this 1978 Porsche 924 offered for $4999 in Hammett, ID. Tip from FuelTruck.

Future Classic: 2007 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500

Everything Shelby has been hot for the past few decades. Probably longer than that, but you can't touch an actual Shelby anything for less than retirement sized lumps of cash, except those Shelby Dodges, but they've got some years before they become collectible. Regardless if you want to get a Shelby Mustang that won't break the bank you'll have to find something that isn't new enough to be near MSRP, but not old enough to be "cool." Find this 2007 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 offered for $19500 via Memphis, TN craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.

4 Doors Good, 2 Doors Better: 1968 Dodge Polara

There is this thing about classic American Muscle cars -- something about 2-door hardtop versus 2-door coupe...which apparently isn't the same thing and has something to do with the presence of a B-pillar (yes for coupes, no for hardtop). For decades the "coupe" versions have been ridiculed by "real" car guys who only drive "hardtops" but some models just look better as a coupe...like the third generation C-body Dodge Polara. Find this 1968 Dodge Polara offered for $9,500 in Phoenix, AZ via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.Thursday, June 1, 2017
Runnnnnnnnnnnnn! 1988 Ferrari Mondial
Words and tip from Jeff G. Remember that scene in the flick Minority Report, when one of the pre-cogs looks at the Tom Cruise character and screams, "RUUUUUUUUUUUNNN!!!!!"...!!?? That is exactly what one should do if ever considering buying this car. There are so many red flags here it makes the National Day ceremony in China look like a couple drunk guys waving beach towels they stole Wal-Mart... but hell, it's a Ferrari for $13,950 so why not.Wednesday, May 24, 2017
Future Classic: 2001 Honda S2000

The Mazda Miata might be the most famous of the modern Japanese convertibles, but the high production numbers and basic speed means it will always be the MGB of the future collector market, but the S2000...yes...it will be the Austin-Healey 3000. Find this 2001 Honda S2000 here on eBay offered for $13,500 buy-it-now or make-offer located in Rochester, NY.Wednesday, May 3, 2017
Ram AirHead: 2000 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am WS6

I can't be sure if I've been given the gift of telling the future...but if there was ever a late model Pontiac that might transcend the plastic body cladding and become a collectible classic...this is it. Find this 2000 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am WS6 offered here on eBay for $14,995 or best offer, located in Austin, TX.Friday, February 17, 2017
Coffee Brake: The Next Big Thing
This might surprise you, but I've been doing a lot of thinking recently. Thinking about my options for garage flooring -- currently I've got simple unstained concrete, but I'd love to paint it with some polyurethane paint or maybe drop a RaceDeck floor...I dunno. I've also been thinking about creating my own brand of gasoline scented aftershave -- but keep that on the down-low for now...what I've been REALLY trying to put my head around is the next big thing in used classics.

No Love: 1990 Mazda MX-5 Miata

I don't want to be one of those people who says I told you so...but...no strike that. I do want to gloat about this one. Let's rewind. In Sept of 2015 Jesse from Barnfinds picked up a 6,000 mile MX-5 Miata from a ranch in Sun Valley, ID and then sold it in November of 2015 for $8,100 on eBay. We picked up the scent in March 2016 when it was offered in Mountain View, CA for $15,000 firm, but that may have been a scam after I reached out to Jesse for confirmation...however, now the exactly same car is now listed in San Jose, CA via craigslist, this time with new pictures and more legitimacy. Find this 1990 Mazda MX-5 Miata with 8,000 miles offered for $11,000 via craigslist. Tip from Matt V.

Soon To Be Classic: 1989 Acura Legend LS V6

In 1987 Honda released the first generation Legend as the top of the line for their newly launched Acura division in North America. The Legend was also sold as the Rover 800-series in part of a collaboration between Honda and the Austin Rover Group, but the Rover badged variant always scared me due to the looks you get when you tell the parts counter guy at PepAutoKragReillys that you have a "Rover." A Ranger Rover? No. A Land Rover. NO -- ROVER, just a Rover. Save yourself the screaming and buy this 1989 Acura Legend LSV6 offered for $3,000 in Chula Vista, CA via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.Wednesday, March 9, 2016
Future Gold: 1987 Porsche 924S

Someday in the future the Porsche 924 will be a collectible. It might not happen this week, or even in the next decade, but at some point in time even the Audi-powered 924 will be worth something to somebody. In the meantime, you can enjoy picking up low mile nice-looking examples for dirt cheap, like this 1987 Porsche 924S offered for $6,000 in Sacramento, CA via craiglist.
