However...HOWEVER...there are times when things posted on thefacemask need to be shared with the rest of the world who aren't stuck in the BubbleBook...particularly when they are El Camino'd Japanese coupes. An Rover..An Acura...errr...A 1991 Sterling 827si

Sterling owners will tell you with a wide smile that they've got an Acura Legend with a cool badge, but what they won't mention is the Rover connection. Because, from 1987 through 1991 ARCONA (Austin Rover Cars Of North America) imported a rebadged version of the Rover 800 series as the Sterling 825/827 for the US market.  Under the skin are the bones of an Acura Legend, which means the Sterling used Honda V6 engine mated to the front wheels...but the cars were still assembled in Oxford and electrified with Lucas electrics.  That means that the part that falls off in your lap during a spirited turn may or may not expose a faulty piece of wiring. Cheap Teggy: 1999 Acura Integra GSR

The 3rd generation Acura Integra (1994-2001) was the final Acura to be named Integra in the US Market (although the torch was passed to the remarkably similar RSX).  The Integra sold well when new and became a huge hit in the sport compact scene once it became affordable for kids to modify; many have been attacked with nitrous systems, neon lights and plywood wings.  Finding a stock/clean 3rd generation Integra is quite difficult today and getting one from an original owner is almost impossible, but this next one looks okay. There was a time when Acura was the go-to brand for Fast & Furious crowd looking for something cheap to modify...but sometime in the early 2000's Acura abandoned its focus on light weight simplicity in exchange for complex slushbox powered boats...BUT today we've got something modern from Honda's luxury brand that bucks the trend and combines a manual gearbox with a limited slip differential putting 286 horsepower to the front wheels.  Find this 2008 Acura TL Type S here on eBay offered for $12,777 located in Addison, IL.

Simple Driver: 1990 Acura Legend

This next car is a hot one -- a clean, good running, rust free, medium mile example of an early 90s classic with a smooth Honda V6 that didn't push the boundaries of technology, but eased next to the boundary with a whimsical smile on its face.  And the price on this one is great...naturally it comes with the slushbox auto (a manual gearbox version would probably have been driven more!)...but this seems like a perfect first car for a kid or cheap daily driver.  Find this 1990 Acura Legend V6 offered for $3750 in SF Bay Area, CA via craigslist. DT 5.0: $50k Cars For Sale

Fifty thousand greenbacks buys you a seriously mean piece of steel on wheels, but only if you avoid the garbage like Porsche 912s (seriously...why do these cost more than a similar condition Beetle?) and brand new Jeep Wranglers (newsflash...the car will be worth $5k in 10 years...sorry new Jeep buyers...I didn't make the rules, I just arbitrarily shout at people from my soapbox).  A few more comments on my $50k search -- I didn't just find $50k cars that looked nice or were new, I picked cars that got you in a group where you couldn't afford for $30k, but looked like they could be parked next to something that cost $100k.  So, awesome cars like the new Focus RS, or Civic Type R just won't make the cut -- same for a $50k restored muscle car from the late 60s...because you can get something that looks 99% the part for half the price. /end rant...on to the cars. The more I cruised through a selection of manual transmission equipped $50k cars on fleabay, the more I realized that this was indeed a difficult assignment.  But here goes...

Mistaken identity- 1995 Acura Integra TSX conversion

Bad Dubbing: 1987 Sterling 825SL

If we're using metaphors, the Sterling was a poorly dubbed Kung-Fu movie. If we're using analogies, the 825 is to English cars as fish sticks are to fish and chips. Not really English and not really Japanese, the Rover 800 series, or Sterling in the US, sought to combine Japanese reliability with rich wood and leather accouterments from ye olde country. Since the Japanese weren't involved with body design, electronics, or manufacturing, the outcome was pretty predictable.
