Appreciation for Depreciation: 2010 Audi S5

The Audi S5 is a two-door version of Audi's pavement pounding S4 sport sedan, but the S5 didn't get the upgraded 3.0T supercharged V6 in 2009 and instead lived with the 4.2 liter V8 shared with the R8 through the 2012 model year.  It isn't a bad thing to have a screaming 7000 rpm V8 instead of a boosted V6, and the S5 seems to have been hit with the magic depreciation train...which isn't a bad thing if you are in the market for a fast two door. Find this 2010 Audi S5 offered for $16,351 in Beverly Hills, CA via craigslist.

Mostly Automatic: 2001 Audi S4

This next car comes from Erik202 who writes: I came across this car and it interested me so i did a little research and found that the automatic trans version of these B5 S4s is actually much more rare than the 6mt. I'm not sure that is proper justification for choosing it over the manual but hey, it's something. the price doesn't hurt on this one either ($4178 USD). Find this 2001 Audi S4 offered for $5750 CAD ($4178 USD) in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada via Kijiji.net.

Yellow Fever: 2005 Audi S4

This next car comes to Erik202 who writes: Send help! (stay 6ft back) just talk me out of buying a V8 Audi S4. I might be going a little crazy from the lack of human interaction but this thing is looking so yellow and fast. And even tho the ad says it’s an auto it’s clearly a stick and it says the timing chains and guides are done and that’s only like $4600USD. Save Erik from monumental repair bills and cheap V8 fun by buying this car before he coughs on the door handles. Find this 2005ish Audi S4 offered for $6500 CAD (approx $4600 USD) in MontrĂ©al, QC via facemask marketplace.

1961 DKW 1000 vs 1962 NSU Prinz

When you are stuck in a coronavirus quarantine you start to appreciate the little things in life.  Such as choices.  Do you eat bologna or cotto salami in your white bread sandwich? Do you walk clockwise around your block or counter clockwise? Do you walk in the street to avoid the oncoming neighbor or step onto someone's lawn?  But the real choice that you've been dreaming out is -- do you get this 1961 DKW 1000 or this 1962 NSU Prinz offered by the same seller for $2000 ($1490 USD) and $2200 ($1571 USD) respectively located in Lethbridge, AB, Canada.  Tips from Erik202.

Manual Swapped: 2001 Audi S8 Quattro

If you are a car guy and have never enjoyed the Robert De Niro and Jean Reno classic Ronin (1998) you need to schedule yourself a few hours and pick up a copy on Amazon.  The D2 generation Audi S8 was the feature car that was driven in anger by Skipp Sudduth's nerdy hacker/driver character who insists on getting a custom nitrous system and then hauls the giant sedan through small cobblestone covered French streets.  It is fantastic -- and you can watch one of the S8 scenes in a clip on youtube here.  After watching Ronin a few times, you'll get the kind of itch that only an all-wheel-drive V8 powered Audi can solve...and this next one is a bit janky, but it does have a manual gearbox swapped in from another Audi. Find this 2001 Audi S8 Quattro offered for $6800 near Minneapolis, MN. Tip from Cory.

Needs Clutch: 2002 Audi TT Quattro 225hp

The 225 horsepower Mk1 Audi TT (type 8N) Quattro was a moderately cool car when released in 1998.  It featured sweet Bauhaus styling and is certainly a style icon that will become a collectible classic in 30 years (or so...).  Naturally the high horsepower K04 turbo equipped 1.8T version is the one to get, and while it probably makes more sense to get one that is in good running order, this one just needs a clutch and is offered for next to nothing. Find this 2002 Audi TT Quattro 225hp offered for $2000 in Sonoma, CA via craigslist.

But I Don't Wanna B8: 2008 Audi S5

In 2007 Audi released the first generation (B8.5) of their A5/S5 sports coupe, which was a return to Audi's legacy of sporty compact executive coupes that ended in 1996 with the B3/B4 Audi 80 coupe.  The A5 was essentially a 2-door coupe version of the A4, and natuarlly the S5 was the souped up V8 version of the same car...which means it comes will all the pluses (speed, comfort, luxury) and minuses (electric gremlins, coil packs, understeer, expensive repairs) of all 2000 era Audi sport sedans...err, coupes.  Anyway, most were probably sold with a slushbox, but this next car is equipped with a 6-speed manual. Find this 2008 Audi S5 offered for $12000 in Chandler, AZ via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.

Fast 6-Speed: 2004 Audi S4

This next car comes from tipper SecondMouse who writes: OOOOH. Around my house, this car is better known as the marriage ender. It's a long, scary story, but it ended with me getting rid of an A8 that was a bad luck magnet with a terrible automatic transmission. Anyway, these S4s are much sought after, none more so than the version with the standard transmission. This example is awesome in black, RS4 wheels, and all the expensive stuff reported done to it already and still hasn't rolled the odometer. Unfortunately, it is too small to sleep in. Find this 2004 Audi S4 offered for $10,495 located in Magnolia, TX via craigslist.

Mid Week Match-Up: Find a Vert for Stan...the other Stan.

You know how I love to help DT readers.  Right? Okay, maybe not help as much as ridicule, marginalize, and bully...but it's basically the same thing if you really get to the core.  If you weren't bullied as a 1st grader, you'd probably still suck your thumb and wear really short jean shorts (the kind that would make Magnum PI cringe)...yeah, Bobby who lived on Fisk Lane and rode a red Schwinn with a banana seat...I'm talking to you.  Anyway, today's mid week match-up (think of it like ABC's Bachelorette except somebody will probably die in a fiery crash at the end) is for Stan..the other Stan...who needs a slushbox because his left foot is messed up.  I think Stan should get this 2007 Audi A4 Convertible here on eBay bidding for $3,050 reserve-not-met located in Cave Creek, AZ with 6 days to go.

UrS6 Avant: 1995 Audi S6 Wagon

If you are in the market for a 7 passenger family hauler, the S6 Avant might not be on the top of your list...heck it probably won't even make the list, but all 400 of the US bound C4 generation S6 Avants (typ 4A9) came with a small set of rear facing kid seats...so it should be on the list.  Power isn't spectacular with the original 2.2 liter inline-5 cylinder 20-valve engine that pushes out 227 horsepower and 240 ft-lbs of torque, but it isn't bad either. Find this 1995 Audi S6 Wagon offered for $5500 in Santa Clara, CA via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.

My S4 is UrS4: 1993 Audi S4

The C4 generation Audi S4 was the first car to wear the S4 badge and as such is commonly called the Ur-S4, Ur being short for UrsprĂ¼nglich or original in German.  Audi was nipping at the heels of BMW and Mercedes in the sport/luxury sedan segment, and when introduced in 1991 the S4 added a well needed dose of fun to Audi's lineup of luxury sedans.  The big part of Audi's recipe for creating an ///M & AMG competitor was the addition of a turbocharged engine to the quattro equipped sedan.  Turbo Audis had been around before, but the 2.2 liter inline-5 in the S4 was boosted to 230 horsepower and 258 ft-lbs of torque.  Performance was great for the day with 0-60 in about 6 seconds and a top speed governed at 130 mph.  Today we've got an example that isn't some low mile over-priced trailer queen -- and looks to be a great way to spend less than $5k and have a good time. Find this 1993 Audi S4 offered for $4000 in Fort Collins, CO via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.

567 HP 2.0T Tire Shredder: 2004 Audi A4

Everybody needs at least two cars.  One of them needs to be a project that'll keep your fingers dirty and the other should be a late model reliable car that is fast and fun to drive.  Maybe one of those cars should haul more than two people...but I think this next car could handle daily driver duties AND your family AND keep your fingers dirty on the weekend. Find this 2004 Audi A4 offered for $9000 in Queens, NY via craigslist. Tip from Jeff.

Strange Brew: 1990 Audi Coupe Quattro

The B3 generation Audi 80 was sold from in 1986 through 1991 as a sedan, coupe and cabriolet.  The coupe version dropped the 80 nomenclature in 1988 and became known simply as the Audi CoupĂ©.  This generation of Audi Coupe isn't quite as iconic as the original Ur-Quattro, but it offers better drive-ability and ergonomics for a better price...or at least so I've been told.  Find this 1990 Audi Coupe Quattro offered for $5,700 in Burlingame, CA via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.

Scotto Carcaine? 1987 Audi 4000 Quattro CS Lewis Edition

If you haven't gotten hooked on Hoonigan's YouTube videos yet, it could be for a variety of reasons. Maybe you think the incessant donuts and "scumbag" antics are tiring. Maybe you're not a 16 year old kid, and can see that their target demographic is someone who can't yet legally drive. I have to admit I wasn't the biggest fan of their brand of tomfoolery until I was a guest on the show, with our Black Iron Racing E36 Camper Lemons car...and I got to know these guys a bit... then I kinda got hooked. It has since become evident Hoonigan co-founder Brian Scotto has a thing for 5-cylinder Audis, which is a bit unexpected. Then I stumble across this craigslist ad for what is most likely one of his "someday" vehicles, since the photos are clearly from the Donut Garage parking lot. Check out this 1987 Audi 4000 Quattro CS for sale in Long Beach, CA for $2000 via craigslist.

Feelin' Blue: 2004 Audi S4 6-Speed

The V8 powered B6 generation Audi S4 is something of a jack-of-all-trades in the world of late model performance super-sedans.  It isn't as fast or viscerale as an STi or Evo, but it is far more refined.  The S4 might not offer as much straight line punch as an E55 AMG, but it offers a manual gearbox and the safety of all-wheel-drive.  If you want a well rounded sport sedan, this is your car, and it comes in the most incredible shade of blue you'll ever see.  Find this 2004 Audi S4 6-Speed offered for $13,400 in Scottsdale, AZ via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.

Hatch A Plan: 2006 Audi A3

A high mileage complex luxury cars with scary electronic integrated gizmos should put the fear of the electron into any sane person...and I count myself in that small group.  A mid 2000s Audi A8, for instance, is going to be overly complicated and certainly cheap because it is going to cost arms/legs/kidneys/children to repair...but if you step downmarket into something like a low spec Audi A3 that doesn't have all the complicated rube goldberg auto-driving features...you might just be able to drive it for a few years and sell without doing anything other than adding gas.  Maybe.  Got a lucky rabbits foot keychain? Find this 2006 Audi A3 offered for $5,500 in SF Bay Area, CA via craigslist.

AWD 6-sp Manual Turbo Wagon: 2001 Audi S4 Avant B5

The B5 generation Audi A4 was introduced in 1994 and featured a longitudinally mounted engine mated to a front transaxle with optional quattro all-wheel-drive. It is a good cheap used car, and the hottest version released to the US market was the twin-turbo equipped S4.  Thankfully, the product planners at Audi decided to let the USA buyers get the Avant/Wagon version and was in this generation that Audi started to legitimately challenge BMW in the compact luxury sports-sedan/wagon wars. Find this 2001 Audi S4 Avant B5 offered on SecondDaily.com bidding for $1000 (buy-it-now of $7750) with 9 hours to go, located in New York.
