Scion iQ Inside: 1974 Honda Z600

What a way to start a Monday! This next car had my scratching my head for a while.  I'm pretty sure there is a bald spot up there now...cause I'm still scratching.  Maybe somebody can explain to me how a car like a 2014 Scion iQ ended up being the donor chassis/drivetrain/interior for a '74 Honda Z600.  This really looks like one of the first model cars I tried to build with Testors model cement when I was about 8 years old...it looks great on the package but that glue melts everything and the end product is NEVER as good as it looked on the box or in store.  I dunno.  Somehow the seller's ALLCAPS SHOUTING DESCRIPTION ONLY ADDS TO THE ALLURE. Gas Station Beauty: 2001 Honda Prelude Type SH

The fifth (and final) generation Honda Prelude was available in the US market with a 200 horsepower 2.0 liter VTEC equipped inline-4 from 1996-2000.  Most have been turned into "race cars," grounded to the ground and covered in mismatched body panels, so finding a stock example is indeed a treat...even if that stock example has a check engine light and is photographed at a gas station. With Motocompo: 1981 Honda City R

We've featured the cool as ice liquid nitrogen Honda City before, and it was even the sweet Turbo II version.  That was back in 2012 and times have changed...mostly cool cars have appreciated in value, so back then $15k would get you the Turbo II but now the same amount of cash gets you the basic City R...but it does come with a matching Motocompo scooter that would have come from the factory in the rear hatch area.  Now if Tesla or one of those hipster electric car startups (Faraday or Gazoo...wait...Ganoo...errr..the company that Evolocity turned into is called...err Canoo..probably) took noticed and packaged an electric scooter in their electric city car..I still wouldn't buy a new car because they are stinkin expensive, but i'd consider them when they were 10 years old and depreciated.  Anyway..I feel like I've lost the thread of this...YES...find this 1981 Honda City R with Motocompo for $15000 in West Hollywood, CA via craigslist. Mid Week Match-Up: Find A Cheap SUV For M

Welcome back to another episode of DT's favorite game of musical thrones...known better as "Mid Week Match-Up" which is a strange name for a game on Friday, but we aren't here to talk about that. We are here to talk about DT's friend, who for the sake of anonymity will be called M.  M isn't a secret agent, but he does need a car that has a few special needs.  First it must be cheap...like $4,000ish out the door.  Next, it needs to be newish and safe -- since this will be the car that M's wife will get her US driver's license and learn to drive...so it does need to be automatic and at least 4 seats. Let's recap-- $4k, auto, safe, newish, oh...and located in SoCal, near Long Beach if possible...and it needs to be something that doesn't trigger the insurance agents to see green (new driver...so no Land Rovers or Lexus LS430s).

B18 Swapped: 1988 Honda CRX

The Honda CRX was an interesting two-seat front-drive economy sports car that really shook up the market when it was introduced in 1983.  There were few other cars on the road that could be optioned to get 40mpg city/50mpg highway (in the CRX HF) or provide an exhilarating driving experience (CRX Si).  Today's example has the volume turned up to 11 with a "teggy" swap...which is the B18 non-VTEC equipped 4-banger from a '95 Integra good for around 140 horsepower.  While we'd prefer the zippy VTEC zoom factor of a B18C, this thing is a considerable torque upgrade from the original and should be very lively.  Find this 1988 Honda CRX offered for $3700 in San Jose, CA via craigslist. Our discussion the other day about craigslist, Hemmings, and BaT brought out some interesting observations on the "collector" car market and it seemed a consensus here on DT people want cheap but interesting cars that can be driven...not stupidly overpriced show queens that are only valueable if the odometer reading is kept low.  (Did you all see that '97 Toyota Supra Turbo with 69k miles that sold for $176,000 at Barrett-Jackson...why??!?! Car Really eXplain High Falutin: 1988 Honda CRX HF

There are a few key things that I like about this next ride.  FIRST, is the color.  I'm a sucker for bronze/copper/gold paint that doesn't look like something aftermarket rattle can job...and this looks appropriately bronze without the brassy tones you'd expect from a bad dye job.  NEXT, the price is reasonable. And finally, those two little letters HF means high fuel economy (42mpg city, 50 mpg hwy) which wasn't achieved through hybridization but through weight loss and incredible gear ratios.
