Buick V8 Rad Rod: 1970 Datsun 521 Pickup

This next car comes as a tip from JB1025 offered My neck is hurting just to look @ this !  But has Kewl Factor...Kewl indeed, you'll need a sweet neckbeard and sleeve tatts to truly do this thing justice, but a few days of itchy neck and arm dermatitis is a small price to pay for driving something that'll make women, children, and valets run with terror.  Find this 1970 Datsun 521 Pickup offered for $10,900 in Toledo, OR via craigslist.

Model A Frame, Big Block Power: 1972 Honda N600 Hot Rod

What is the last thing you would expect from the classic little Honda S600?  Acceleration?  Burnouts? Extended wheel base?  Yeah.  Any single one of those things would get you surprised, but this next car combines all of those attributes into one insane Honda subcompact sitting on a Ford Model A frame with big block V8 power. Find this 1972 Honda N600 Hot Rod offered for $8500 in Weaverville, NC via craigslist. Tip from Rock On!

Devil Boy Hot Rod: 1970 Volkswagen Dune Buggy

There are times when a ride in a home built rat rod doesn't make sense -- let's say you are trying to impress the parents of your new girlfriend.  And there are times when a rat rod does make sense -- when you are trying to terrify your daughter's new potential boyfriend.  However, in either one of those cases the most important rule to remember is that you shouldn't spend a bunch of your money on the hulk, but you could let the previous owner spend his time and money building it for you.  Find this 1970 Volkswagen Dune Buggy offered for $8575 in Farmington Hills, MI via craigslist.  Tip from Rock On!

Saturday Screamer: 1955 Diamond T Rat Rod

File this next classic car find under the heading "I don't know what it is...but I like it!"  And for some stranger reason, the seller isn't asking some ridiculous amount of money for his...umm...thing.  Yeah.  Does it float? Find this 1955 Diamond T Rat Rod offered for $6,500 near Cincinnati, OH via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.

Twin Engine: 1953 International Rat Rod

If you've got an old car with an inline-6 engine up front the easy route to making power is to replace it with an number of domestic V8s...but the easy way isn't the DT way...no sir...NOT EVEN A LITTLE BIT!  The DT way to do things is to take your non-crossflow inline-6 and add another engine side-by-side -- then connect the 12 cylinders with a Rube Goldberg set of pulleys/belts and burn rubber all the way to the bank.  Find this 1953 International Rat Rod here on eBay bidding for $5,000 reserve-not-met located in Pell City, AL with 3 days to go. Tip from FuelTruck.

The Anomaly: 1956 International Rod

The art of the custom car has changed over the years -- and most of the "custom" stuff you find for sale today is just a bunch of junk from an online catalog randomly put together.  Thankfully there are a few visionaries still around who will build something truly unique...some anomaly.  Find this 1956 International Rod here on eBay offered for $15,500 buy-it-now or make-offer located in Ceres, CA with 4 days to go. Tip from George.

Home Mad: 1979 Chevy-Buick Rat Rod

There are few rules in the world of custom vehicle creation, but don't be a copy-cat seems to be something the next seller followed closely.  Just don't follow this thing too closely, because something might fall off.  Find this 1979 Chevy-Buick Rat Rod offered for $4000 in Columbia, TN via craigslist. Tip from DM.

Rattus Maximus: 1977 GMC Rat Rod

This next car comes as a tip from Michael B who writes: Boy, I don't think I've ever seen a rat rod that looks like . . . . well . . . . a rat.  Michael is 100% correct, it I saw this thing in my garage, I'd scream at the top of my lungs and then call an exterminator, but the scary part is when you pop the hood.  Find this 1977 GMC Rat Rod offered for $2,500 in Sunburg, MN via craigslist.

Rat Rod: 1929 Ford Model A

The Ford Model A is just about unrecognizable once hot rodders get their hands on them, but that shouldn't stop you from getting your own A-bone.  The basic recipe is to drop the car until the body is inches from the ground, chop that big open greenhouse into oblivion, and then stuff the biggest V8 you can find between the front wheels.  Find this 1929 Ford Model A offered for $4,000 in Inland Empire LA Area, CA via craigslist. Tip from Rock On!

Built to last: Ford Powered Rat Trike

There was a lot of talk this year about how America doesn't build anything anymore and that we've transitioned to a service economy.  All the manufacturing jobs have moved to Asia, blah, blah ,blah, we just sit at Charbucks and use the latest app on our mobile device that we are making payments on, blah, blah, blah.  Well these pundits that live in a coastal bubble apparently have never surfed the for sale by owner car and motorcycle sections of Craigslist.  Here you will find the American spirit of a guy in a shed that brought us powered flight, computers and other physical things alive and well.  Find this Ford powered rat trike for sale in Friday Harbor, WA for $6,500 via craigslist.

Vermin SUV: 2001 Ford Explorer Rat Rod

Despite what owners think, Rat Rodding isn't anything new.  In 1972, Rod & Custom Magazine dedicated a whole issue to the "beater," aka the low-budget alternative to slick customized cars. Few Rat Rods of today fit into that category as many are highly customized and labor intensive works of art. Look hard enough though, and you can still find home grown examples of acquired taste.  Find this 2001 Ford Explorer Rat Rod for sale in Nanaimo, BC Canada for $3,500 CDN via Kijiji.

Not Your Doc's Volvo: 1962 Volvo 544 Rat Rod

The Volvo PV444/544 was a passenger car built by Volvo to fulfill simple driving needs of the post World War II family starting in 1947.  It was powered by an early version of Volvo's rugged B-series engine and stayed in production for a remarkable 18 years.  Imagine Ford building '41 Fords in 1966...but this is essentially what happened with the 544.  Find this 1962 Volvo 544 Rat Rod offered for $5,200 in Richmond, VA.

10k: Capricorn Husker: 1957 Ford Fairlane Custom

You'll have to put aside your Ford versus Chevy hatred and take a razor blade to all the Calvins peeing on stuff in order to fully appreciate this feature.  In every sense of the word, it is a hybrid. Not in the fuel-sipping, electron-pushing Prius, but the old school hybrid of yesterday, specifically a 1957 Ford body on a 1984 Chevy Caprice frame.  Find this 1957 Ford Fairlane Custom Rod for sale in Omaha, NE for $11,000 via craigslist.   Tip from Kaibeezy

5k: Loony Labor Day: 1946 Seagrave Crap Rod

Welcome back to our annual tradition of featuring the craziest cars for sale on the web, in what we like to call Loony Labor Day. Sometimes the cars will be insane, other times the sellers, and maybe even the buyers.  Today's first feature started out as a pre-war fire truck that likely resembled this example, but is now a speed bump scraping, zero overhang rat rod, surely the product of pills or some genetic disorder.  Find this 1946 Seagrave Rat Rod with GMC V12 power, currently bidding on ebay for $4,959 reserve-not-met with 4 days to go.

5k: Mothers Day Special: 1933 International Rat Rod Straight-8

When the writers of the Daily Turismo spit balled mother's day feature concepts over rounds of white Russians, the theme that kept returning was 'cars that Mom would drive'...except this was clearly wrong and we needed to continue drinking... What tells Mom you love her more than the classic 1930s "Mom" with heart tattoo? Nothing.  Logically, we needed to find the car that is the automotive equivalent of the "Mom" tattoo.  Find this 1933 International Cab based Rat Rod with Straight-8 power located in Weld, ME for $8,000 via craigslist. Happy Mother's day to all Moms out there!
