The HiLux is legendary for its rugged chassis and bulletproof R-series engines...that's certainly part of the reason it is the favorite for lawn care workers in the USA and militias around the globe. Toyota released in the first HiLux back in 1968 as a replacement for their Stout pickup, and production of the little machine lasted through 1995 for the US market, but it continues to be built in various other markets and we get the larger Tacoma pickup. Today's Pickup looks in great shape, but it needs a new headgasket -- how hard can that be? Find this 1978 Toyota Pickup offered for $2000 in Gilbert, AZ via craigslist.

Truck Conversion: 1999 Jeep Cherokee
The list of small 4-door pickup trucks isn't very large -- a fact pointed out by the builder of this custom machine, who writes: I built this because I have always felt that the US manufacturers totally missed the boat on the mid-size 4-door pickup market. They built some – but they were all weird-shaped, weird-looking, independent front suspension garbage with too much motor and not enough simplicity. Dodge Dakotas, Chevy Colorados (or those really rare and weird 4-door S10s) Ford Exploder, etc. At least the Fords were kind of square for a while. I love the idea of a rugged 4-door pickup and this thing with a built-in tool/gun/ammo box looks ready to rock. Find this 1999 Jeep Cherokee offered for $6500 in Omaha, NE via craigslist. Tip from ISAUN.

Luxo F-150: 2006 Lincoln Mark LT Pickup

Lincoln first released their attempt at the luxury pickup in 2002 with the Blackwood...which didn't sell many (3300 according to interweb sources) and was canceled within 15 months of launch. The product planners at Lincoln were still convinced they could sell a gussied up F-150..and in 2005 they released the Mark LT...which then lasted till 2008 with something like 10,000 sold per year...which wasn't bad, but not good enough to survive the carpocalypse. Anyway, find this 2006 Lincoln Mark LT Pickup offered for $3950 in Cape Coral, FL via craigslist. Tip from Dascpcu.Wednesday, March 18, 2020
Pickup My SUV: 1994 Mazda Proceed Marvie
The Mazda Proceed Marvie isn't something you see everyday. Or even once a year. Or maybe not in your lifetime. What it is...is a car with a verb placed squarely in the middle of its name -- not common, but certainly noteworthy. The Proceed was sold in the USA with a B-Series badge and I don't think we ever got the SUV version...which was simply a pickup truck with a camper shell and a 3rd row installed with some bolts. I think it makes a sensible alternative to whatever Rav4/CRV/Explorer you might find with a 3rd row that is just another piece of automotive blight on the street. Find this 1994 Mazda Proceed Marvie offered for $7750 in Fulton, MD via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.Saturday, February 22, 2020
Buick V8 Rad Rod: 1970 Datsun 521 Pickup

This next car comes as a tip from JB1025 offered My neck is hurting just to look @ this ! But has Kewl Factor...Kewl indeed, you'll need a sweet neckbeard and sleeve tatts to truly do this thing justice, but a few days of itchy neck and arm dermatitis is a small price to pay for driving something that'll make women, children, and valets run with terror. Find this 1970 Datsun 521 Pickup offered for $10,900 in Toledo, OR via craigslist.Tuesday, January 28, 2020
Cummins Diesel Hot Rod: 1950 Chevrolet Pickup
There are two categories of cool cars in the world. The first is cars that are cool because they are fast/rare/unique and everybody knows it -- think Corvette ZO6, Shelby Mustangs, Dodge Demons, Ferraris and the like...the second group are cars that are cool because nobody knows what the heck they are looking at. This next car is so far into that second group it is coming out the backside. Find this 1950 Chevrolet Pickup offered for $6500 in Piggott, AR via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.Saturday, December 14, 2019
Rad! 1985 Nissan 720 Pickup BushMaster 4X4
This next car comes as a tip from Gregory who simply writes: RAD! in his email to DT. Yup. I can't imagine a more fitting word to describe what you are about to see, because this car is so thoroughly evocative of the RAD epoch. Find this 1985 Nissan 720 4X4 BushMaster offered for $3500 in North Hollywood, CA via craigslist.Friday, December 13, 2019
Patina Princess: 1986 Ford F-150
This next car comes as a tip from SecondMouse who writes: I love finding vehicles like this. Cheap, well loved and cared for, with a certain nostalgia and utility. Like this 1986 Ford F-150 longbed. This is a one-family vehicle, and as a mid-80's pickup, they don't get much more legit than this, with only 86,000 original miles and a price tag of $3500. Find this 1986 Ford F-150 offered for $3,500 in Pearland, TX via craigslist.Saturday, November 16, 2019
Multi-Tasker: 1990ish Dodge 1500 Ram Pickup Forklift

What is red, white, and can pull its own motor? Yeah. a Dodge pickup with a forklift hanging out the back. The fork lift pickup might seem like an odd vehicle, but I've seen many running around the street hauling dumpsters from behind apartment complexes to the street for the big trash machine to do the dumping. Personally, I'd like to have one to drive around and use for various tasks around the yard/garage/house (wash the windows on the 2nd floor?), but you'll need to get a title because this one isn't street legal according to the seller. Find this 1990ish Dodge 1500 Ram Pickup Forklift offered for $1,500 in Lake City via facebash marketplace.Tuesday, November 5, 2019
LS2 V8 Powered: 2005 Chevrolet SSR

A few years back, when retro styling was all the rage, the guys at GM decided to break another glass ceiling in the automotive world. They introduced what was probably the worlds first mass market convertible pickup truck (we will ignore the ill-fated Dodge Dakota Sport, but that was another ASC hack job, not to be confused with a car purposed built from the factory like a Ford Model A pickup.) Regardless, the SSR was built on the Chevy Trailblazer platform and was motivated by a 6 liter version of the LS2 V8 and it was gloriously fast and retro (in contrast the Fords anemic Thunderturd from the same retro-era). Although the styling left something to be desired, and the SSR had the torsional rigidity of a wet churro, a remarkable 24,000 were produced from 2003 through 2006, so expect them to be cheap in the coming years as the original owners trade them for something that can hold their mobility scooters. Find this 2005 Chevrolet SSR offered for $13,000 in Tucson, AZ via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.Friday, October 11, 2019
G35X Powertrain Swapped: 1972 Datsun 521 Pickup
The Infiniti G35 we posted the other day was well received because it combines the best characteristics of a reliable modern car with a nicely depreciated price curve. The only thing it was missing was the cool factor of a moderately rusty pickup truck exterior...oh...here we go, another horrorod. Find this 1972 Datsun 521 Pickup with G35X powertrain offered for $6900 in Denver, CO via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.Thursday, September 12, 2019
Dies el Camino: 2006 Volkswagen Jetta TDI Pickup

In 1967 when John Lennon wrote and later performed his hit "All You Need Is Love", he was naturally lauded for his optimism and simplicity in focus. However...he wasn't quite correct. Because if I had been the 5th Beatle, I would have insisted that we sack this George Harrison character, and then re-title the song "All You Need Is Love And An El Camino". That about covers it. Find this 2006 Volkswagen Jetta Pickup offered for $12,000 in Half Moon Bay, CA via craigslist.

The Caminova: 1971 Chevrolet Nova Pickup

I don't often travel to the wild open desert, but when I do, I enjoy staring at the starry night sky and pondering the existential questions of the universe. Such as; Why are we here? What color should my next car be? What would a Chevy Nova Pickup look like? Yeah. The basic stuff that everything thinks about when they have time. However, I've got a real lifesaver for you guys today -- find this 1971 Chevrolet Nova Pickup offered for $11,500 in Columbus, OH via craigslist. Tip from Rock On!Friday, July 19, 2019
Please Be Real: 1995 Toyota T-100 DX ExtraCab

This next car comes from tipper Jeff who writes: Please be real...I'll send a personal check to <insert third-world country here> for this one. Amen brother, this thing is a real testament to the power of desire on craigslist but the asking price sets off alarm bells that'll raise the little hairs on the back of your neck. Find this 1995 Toyota T-100 offered for $3000 near Washington, D.C. via craigslist.Thursday, July 4, 2019

AWD Subaru Swapped: 1973 Ford Courier

The worst thing about a 2 wheel drive pickup is that they have no traction in the wet...or maybe that is the best thing about a 2WD pickup (depending on how you drive...but I digress). The Ford Courier pickup was actually a Mazda B-series that was available over the years with a number of small powerplants, including a Wankel, but today's example has been converted into a boxer-4 powered all-wheel-drive custom. Find this 1973 Ford Courier offered for $7500 in Salinas, CA via craigslist. Tip from Safety Fast.Thursday, March 21, 2019
Dooley Cooly: 1986 Chevrolet C/K 3500 Silverado

America's obsession with the giant pickup truck started many years ago, back when gas was cheap and safety was a consideration that was second to most...but gas is still cheap when adjusted for inflation and safety is still something that people struggle to understand. So enjoy the good old days with this good old pickup. Find this 1986 Chevrolet C/K 3500 Silverado here on eBay bidding for $8,100 with 3 days to go, located in Oakland, CA.
