Truck Conversion: 1999 Jeep Cherokee

The list of small 4-door pickup trucks isn't very large -- a fact pointed out by the builder of this custom machine, who writes: I built this because I have always felt that the US manufacturers totally missed the boat on the mid-size 4-door pickup market. They built some – but they were all weird-shaped, weird-looking, independent front suspension garbage with too much motor and not enough simplicity. Dodge Dakotas, Chevy Colorados (or those really rare and weird 4-door S10s) Ford Exploder, etc. At least the Fords were kind of square for a while.  I love the idea of a rugged 4-door pickup and this thing with a built-in tool/gun/ammo box looks ready to rock. Find this 1999 Jeep Cherokee offered for $6500 in Omaha, NE via craigslist. Tip from ISAUN.

Coronapocalypse Ready: 1978 Custom Built Tank

Okay, if the Chevy Grunt (whatever that means) we posted early today is too wussy for your redneck inner self, then this next vehicle hits all of the right buttons for a gun slinger, tank commander, or urban prepper.  All I can say is; that rotating cannon better be fully functioning. Find this 1978 Custom Built Tank offered for $5500 in Cummings, GA via craigslist. Tip from Rock On!

Six Wheel Ranchero'd: 1971 Lincoln Continental Mark III

At the risk of sounding like an old codger...I'm going to say that "back in my day" if you wanted to modify your pickup truck, it usually involved some knobby tires and removing a few letters from the tailgate to spell "yota." But this...this is a whole 'nother level of customization and will probably end up in the Swiss Museum of Art Brut someday. Find this 1971 Lincoln Continental MkIII offered for $8000 in Chewelah, WA via thefacepalm marketplace.  Tip from Matt C, who probably preferred to remain anonymous, but I hear that outing whistle-blowers is in style this week.

Ford Inline-6 Swapped: 2004 Mazda RX-8

The RX-8 was Mazda's replacement for the out of production RX-7, introduced as a last chance attempt at saving the rotary engine.  The RX-8 was built starting in 2003 and ending in 2011 when the lights went out on production of Felix Wankel's spinning machine...for now.  Anyway, the RX-8 rapidly gained the a similar reputation to the RX-7 -- specifically that it was a great car to drive, but the engine blew up faster than a Miley Cirus relationship -- which was around 62 minutes after the first spark.  So if you want to drive an RX-8 without worrying about your apex seals, you should swap in a Ford inline-6 from an F150.  Right? Find this 2004 Mazda RX-8 with Ford inline-6 offered for $1400 in Minneapolis, MN via facebash marketplace.

Something Something Something Jet Engine: 1970s Jet Dragster Allison J35

This next car is either a really expensive project that needs thousands of dollars of work to get it on the road...or a really good deal on a jet engine sitting on a "vehicle" chassis.  Not sure which yet...but I'd take it for a test drive. Find this 1970s Jet Dragster Allison J35 here on eBay offered for $10,000 buy-it-now.

DIY Campsite: 1987 Freightliner FLU-419 Unimog Small Emplacement Excavator

I'd love to own an RV and go glamping with the family, but my biggest problem is that the RVs that can get you to the best campsites won't always pack the right amount of gear and the big RVs won't let you get to the premium spots before they are all taken for the weekend.  If only they built a vehicle that can reach the best campsites, and bulldoze the ground as needed to secure a flat spot for your tent. Find this 1987 Freightliner FLU-419 Unimog Small Emplacement Excavator here on eBay bidding for $13,500 in Cookeville, TN with 3 days to go.

Armored Truck: 1964 International Harverster Loadstar

The next car comes as a tip from Rock On who wrote that the car is the "perfect anti road rage vehicle"...not sure if he meant it'll stop you from being the victim of road rage, or it'll stop you from committing road rage...either way, I like it!  Find this 1964 Harverster Loadstar offered for $14000 in Las Vegas, NV via craigslist.

Daimler AG sells trucks in the USA through its subsidiary Freightliner -- but not just big on-highway heavy goods haulers, but also curiously awesome oddballs like this next thing.  Find this 1989ish Freightliner Unimog bidding for $17,639 via maxanet.com auctions. Tip from Don.

Hold My Beer: 1968 Jaguar-ish Custom

The seller claims this next car started out as  Jaguar E-Type 2+2 coupe that had been in a roll-over accident, but it looks more like Luke Skywalker's landspeeder than anything...so I'm going to assume that wormholes in the space-time continuum had something to do with the fact that you can own this thing today.  Find this 1968 Jaguar-ish Custom here on eBay bidding for $5,800 reserve-not-met with $80k buy-it-now located in Carson City, NV. Tip from Dave.

These Colors Run: 1979 Chevrolet Corvette

The late 70s were a terrible time for car enthusiasts -- and I'm sure the older folks in the crowd will remember the L48 V8 powered Vettes and what absolute DOGS they were. Actually, that's an insult to dogs because the average dog could not only catch an L-48, it could do it with such ease that it could actually pee on its tires while chasing it on three legs!  Thankfully this next Corvette has had the L48 removed and recycled into a dog water bowls, but the seller has replaced the engine with a beastly 427 and covered it with an homage to America.  Find this 1979 Chevrolet Corvette offered for $35,000 in Mobile, AL via craigslist.  Tip from Wesley.

Boosted Stroker: 1975 Mercury Monarch

You roll up in your 1975 Mercury Monarch and nobody takes notice.  Sure, there are a few old guys who smile at the malaise mobile, but nobody is going to try and race you or ask what's under the hood.  Until you fire up the engine and slaughter some supercars in 1320ft.  Find this 1975 Mercury Monarch offered for $6,500 in Schulenburg, TX via craigslist.

Your Ride Is Almost Ready Lord Vader: 1970 Chevrolet Nova

You don't have to be a country music and moonshine lovin' redneck to appreciate this next slice of Americana...but it sure helps.  The 3rd generation (1968-1974) Chevrolet Nova attracts rednecks like a light-saber attracts imperial attention at a Mos Eisley tavern.  Find this 1970 Chevrolet Nova here on eBay bidding for $11,099 reserve-not-met with 4 days to go, located in Colorado Springs, CO.

Commuter Overkill: 2005 Maserati Quattroporte

What a wonderful time to be alive.  Recent advancements in the fields of basic hygiene, sanitation, and medicine means that survival past the age of 10 is very common, but that isn't jack in comparison to the incredible level of automobile you can get for a small price.  Find this 2005 Maserati Quattroporte offered for $17,900 in Houston, TX via craigslist. Tip from Jeff.

Eleven 2nd Pony: 1980 Ford Pinto V8

Ford introduced their baby-pony Pinto for the 1971 model year, and while it might have shared a horse themed name with the Mustang, it was put together as cheaply as possible to keep the bean counters at Ford corporate flush with cash from their bonuses.  Unfortunately, this meant the subcompact didn't have the best quality record and has become the subject of many jokes about exploding gas tanks...but not today.  Find this 1980 Ford Pinto V8 offered for $8,500 in Somerville, MA via CMAutoSales. Tip from Johnnyhoo.

What Did You Do? 1965 Chevrolet Corvair

Ah, the Corvair.  A classically styled beauty with an aircooled flat-6 out back and independent suspension all around...whoa, there dude, you are thinking about the Porsche 911, because the Corvair has a conventional watercooled V8 mounted up front and a stick beam axle out back...like this 1965 Chevrolet Corvair here on eBay bidding for $5,200 reserve-not-met with 2 days to go, located in Miami, FL.
