It is a formidable track machine, tuned by the wizards at Chevy's performance group to take the standard C5 from fast enough to faster. When introduced in 2001, the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 was the fastest production car for less than $100k, and today, a used Z06 is the fastest stock car for less than $15k in just about any competition environment (drag, track, autox, etc). Twin Turbo B2K Package: 1987 Chevrolet Corvette Callaway

Racer and driving instructor Reeves Callaway bolted a hodgepodge turbo system on a BMW 320i and loaned the car to Car and Driver journalist Don Sherman who wrote a one page article on the beast.  At the time, the number of folks who had the capability to turbocharge a car without ventilating the engine block was extremely limited and in 1977 Callaway Cars was incorporated to develop aftermarket turbo kits for the every man. Several years later, Callaway worked side-by-side wtih OEMs to develop turbo systems for BMW, Volkswagen, Porsche, Audi,  Mercedes-Benz and Chevrolet, many of which maintained factory backed warranty.  Callaway eventually became world renowned for his bonkers twin turbo Corvettes, and prices for these boosted machines are not cheap...but they are certainly cheaper than something like a Shelby...but how long with that last? 6-Speed V8: 2005 Cadillac CTS-V

Cadillac launched their CTS-V sport sedan in 2004 with a manual gearbox and firebreathing V8 that was nothing short of awesome.  The standard CTS sedan was focused on stealing sales from cars like the Mercedes-Benz C-Class or BMW 3/5 series..but the V-version was aimed at stealing sales from BWM's M division and Mercedes-Benz AMG division...and those German sedans are wicked and fast...but seriously complicated and used engines built like time bombs...but the Cadillac used a pushrod V8 from the Corvette that was simple to fix...and I think the CTS-V is the choice for the cheap driver. Dual Overhead Cam Classic: 1990 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1

The C4 generation Corvette ZR1 was the result of a project between GM and Lotus Engineering, which resulted in a 375 horsepower DOHC V8 engine, big brakes, heavy duty suspension and active ride control.  It was really ahead of its time for a GM product from the early 1990s but a hefty price tag (twice the cost of a standard Vette at $60k) and special assembly plant limited production to 6900 units over 6 years.  Thankfully the magic of depreciation has dropped them into el cheapo territory and you can get one for the price of a 10 year old Camry.  Seriously. Seller Submission: 2012 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Centennial Edition

This next car comes as a friend of the seller submission from Tim C who tells us that he is trying to help a friend who is quite ill sell his Corvette. If you had asked me a few weeks ago, which model of Corvette offers the best bang for your buck? -- I'd have quickly and confidently replied C5...but the new C8 Corvette has dropped and the C7 owners are looking to upgrade...and C6 owners are looking at C7s...so now the C6 (2005-2013) has taken the mantle of the fastest machine on the planet for the cash. I know that everybody loves to hate on the plastic bumper C3 generation Corvette -- yeah the chassis is a loose as wizard's cuff...and the low compression carburetor fed V8s are terrible and build quality is on par with the worst best stuff at Harbor Freight...but they have a certain aesthetic charm, and chicks dig 'em.  So, I have to say I'm surprised that one equipped with a late model LT1 and 4-speed goodbox is this inexpensive.
