You don't see a lot of Toyota RAV4s on the pages of DailyTurismo...but that doesn't mean you shouldn't own one because they offer a level of usability and reliability for a light crossover that is almost unmatched...and the older ones are starting to become cool...in a goofy way. Today's first generation RAV4 is a 3-door version with electric blue paint and Lexus ES300h wheels. Find this 1996 Toyota RAV4 offered for $4900 in Florida via Dave's blogger site. I Will Survive: 1984 Toyota Corolla LE
At first I was afraid, I was econofied,
Kept thinking I could never live with my engine turned to its side
But my front wheels plowed so many miles thinking how you did me wrong
And I grew strong
And I learned how to live with bronze
And my plastics black
My seats are tan
I seat as many people as your crummy old van
I should have changed my steering lock, I should have made you leave your key
If I'd known for just one second that you'd try to hot wire me
Go on now, go, slam that mint condition door
Just do some front-wheel peel now
'Cause you're not rear drive anymore
Weren't you the one who tried to hurt me with a slide
Do you think my interior would crumble
Did you think my clearcoat would lay down and die?
Oh no, not I, I will survive
Oh, as long as I know how to change gears, I know I'll stay alive
I've got all my clutch to slip
And I've got all that 4A torque to give and I'll survive
I will survive, hey, hey...Find this 1984 Toyota Corolla LE offered for $4200 in Portland, OR via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.

Longbed Shortfuse: 1978 Toyota Pickup
The HiLux is legendary for its rugged chassis and bulletproof R-series engines...that's certainly part of the reason it is the favorite for lawn care workers in the USA and militias around the globe. Toyota released in the first HiLux back in 1968 as a replacement for their Stout pickup, and production of the little machine lasted through 1995 for the US market, but it continues to be built in various other markets and we get the larger Tacoma pickup. Today's Pickup looks in great shape, but it needs a new headgasket -- how hard can that be? Find this 1978 Toyota Pickup offered for $2000 in Gilbert, AZ via craigslist.Monday, June 15, 2020

A Little More Cowbell Doors: 1991 Toyota Sera

When I saw this next car come into our tips box I thought it might be too soon to post another one...but then I did a quick glace into the archives and found two things; first, it has been almost a month since I posted the last one (where does the time go?) and second, there is no such thing as too much cow bell. Because this is the cow bell of the automotive world and you should not fear the reaper. Those scissors/lambo doors might be totally unnecessary, but they add an essential element to what would otherwise be a plain and lame. Find this 1991 Toyota Sera offered for $5500 in Damascus, OR. Tip from Rock On!

I'm Not Joking and Don't Call Me Shirley: 1995 Toyota Sera

Everybody wants the best of both worlds. Everybody wants a car that gets them street cred and respect for being "different" but that same body wants a car that is reliable and efficient...so where does a Prius cross with a Lamborghini? Lemme tell ya. It's called the Toyota Sera and is two parts Toyota Paseo and one part lambo door equipped JDM oddball. Find this 1995 Toyota Sera offered for $8,800 in Orefield, PA via hemmings.com. Tip from Barbpaddles.

Senchurī Club: 1991 Toyota Century V40 Emperor Limo

If you were part of the Japanese royal family shopping for a properly prestigious ride in the early 1990s, it didn't make much sense to buy a Cadillac, a Lincoln, a Rolls Royce or a Mercedes S-Class. What you needed was something domestic to demonstrate your Japanese pride, but a Supra doesn't have a back seat fit for a king...but there was one car from the land of the rising sun that was appropriately boss. Find this 1991 Toyota Century V40 Emperor Limo here on eBay offered for $7250 buy-it-now or make-offer located in Orefield, PA.Wednesday, April 15, 2020
Mister Two Toned: 1988 Toyota MR2

The mid engine car has been a dream for most buyers since the dawn of the modern automobile era and it was something that was strictly reserved for racing or the wealthy. However, in 1984 Toyota introduced a low cost mid-engine car that used basic Corolla running gear wrapped with a Seiichi Yamauchi designed angular body. Today's example is covered in some sweet two-tone factory paint and looks ready to hit the 80s show car circuit. Find this 1988 Toyota MR2 offered for $7,500 in Chicago, IL via craigslist. Trade for Toilet Paper: 1981 Toyota Corona Station Wagon

Happy Pi Day! With all of the corona virus related pandemonium running through the public eye, I wonder if it'll spill over into cars -- with the classic Toyota Corona be shunned because it shares a first name with the nasty crown shaped virus that seems to be performing the job of a crappy version of Thanos' Infinity Gauntlet. The corona virus will pass (hopefully soon) but this Corona Station Wagon will still be driving for years. Find this 1981 Toyota Corona Station Wagon offered for $8,500 in San Mateo, CA via craigslist. Tip from Kaibeezy.Tuesday, March 10, 2020
Shingijutsu Jidai Wa Toyota: 1984 Toyota Corolla SR5 AE86 Hatchback

I've got to admit that I don't know why Toyota two different cars with the AE86 platform in Japan, first the Corolla Levin that was sold at the Toyota Corolla Store and then Sprinter Trueno that was sold at Toyota Auto Store...this setup is literally foreign to me...so I'll just start across the Pacific where Toyota dealers sold something called the Toyota Corolla DX, SR5, and GT-S...which was equally at home on a daily commute or doing Initial D style drifting. Find this 1984 Toyota Corolla AE86 Hatchback offered for $6000 in South Bay Los Angeles, CA via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.Monday, March 9, 2020
Who Does Mr 2 Work For? 2002 Toyota MR2 Spyder

If you are in the market for a cheap ($5k-$7k) late model (MY 2000+) sports car (two seats...rag top...etc) there are a few obvious choices. The Boxster makes a good case -- but potential maintenance issues will be huge. The MX-5 Miata is ubiquitous and not special enough. The Audi TT suffers the same potential pocket robbing action as the Boxster but with more understeer...so what car could offer a reliable platform with a focus on handling and fun. Find this 2002 Toyota MR2 Spyder offered for $6000 in Los Altos, CA via craigslist.Wednesday, February 26, 2020
Flat 4 Powered 2+2: 2017 Subaru BRZ

The Subaru BRZ /Toyota 86 /Scion FR-S was the fruit of an arrangement between Subaru and Toyota to produce a world class 2+2 sports car for the masses. It offered an interesting combination of Subaru flat-4 power and Toyota mechanical bits...but was assembled at Subaru's Gunma plant in Japan. Sales in the US market for the combined BRZ/GT86/FR-S were low with something like 10,000 in 2017...so used examples have been expensive, except for this next one that has a salvage title...but nobody else will know when you are carving up the apexes of your local track. Find this 2017 Subaru BRZ offered for $13,800 in San Jose, CA via craigslist. Friday, February 21, 2020
JDM Modified: 1994 Toyota Celica GT-Four ST205

This next car comes as a tip from JB1025 who writes Pretty cool looking Celica GT awd be fun to drive and not many around in the States i would guess. The Celica GT-Four was available in the US market, but it was discontinued by the time the 6th generation Celica was launched in 1993, so this next GT-Four is indeed a unicorn on this side of the Pacific Ocean. Find this 1994 Toyota Celica GT-Four ST205 offered for $16,500 in Seattle, WA via craigslist.Monday, February 17, 2020
Rare JDM Wagon: 1992 Toyota Corolla Van

This next car REALLY stretches the limit of what you consider an appreciating classic car. It isn't fast, and it isn't really noticeable (most of the mindless automatons driving around in their beige pods won't blink twice at a Corolla wagon...even though it was never sold here in this generation and is the only one you'll ever see) and there are thousands of cars that offer more daily driver usability...but...BUT...this is an all-wheel-drive and manual-gearbox equipped Corolla imported from Japan with right-hand-drive and it will win all the street cred you can use at the next Japanese classic car show. Find this 1992 Toyota Corolla Van offered for $8500 in Seattle, WA via craigslist. Tip from Erik202.Thursday, January 16, 2020
Don't Be Zelas: 2011 Scion tC 6-Speed

Classic depreciation curves too a strange turn in the 2010 decade and cars that are 3 years old command about the same price as cars that are 10 years old. This is especially the case with cheapo mass market economy cars, but this next car seems appropriately cheap for 10 year old Scion. Find this 2011 Scion tC 6-Speed offered for $6,400 in San Jose, CA via craigslist.Wednesday, January 8, 2020
22re 4x4 Manual 5-speed: 1990 Toyota 4Runner

The 2nd generation 4Runner (1989-1995) offered a medium sized package, excellent 4WD capability and a refined ride when new. Its typically Toyota reliability has turned it into a thing of legend and if you can ignore the sneers from the guys with Calvin peeing on brand X in the rear window; they are great vehicles. Find this 1990 Toyota 4Runner offered for $6,500 in Santa Rosa, CA via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.Wednesday, December 11, 2019
Battle Wagon: 1987 Toyota Cressida

Cressida was a common character in Renaissance era stories about the Trojan war -- specifically she was the daughter of a Greek seer who falls in love with Trollius (a Trojan prince) and is later in love with the Greek soldier Diomedes...but the various stories have one common theme -- that Cressida is the paradigm of a faithless lover. Even Shakespeare (oh...right, the guy who actually wrote his plays, the Earl of Oxford, Edward de Vere) wrote about Cressida being a tease and unfaithful...so it is interesting that Toyota named their up-model version of the Camry for this Greek temptress. I wonder if this Cressida would leave you the minute the road gets rough? Find this 1987 Toyota Cressida offered for $4,000 in Tacoma, WA via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.Wednesday, December 4, 2019
Dave Ramsey Special: 2009 Toyota Yaris
This next car comes as a tip from Jeff who writes: For a first car or daily beater, this one is hard to beat.... unless you're over 6 ft. tall. I agree on the daily driver or kids first car, and the ad is good...but my only question is -- who would put synthetic oil in a Yaris!?!? That's like feeding duck liver pate to the pet pig. Find this 2009 Toyota Yaris offered for $3495 in Houston, TX via craigslist.
