The HiLux is legendary for its rugged chassis and bulletproof R-series engines...that's certainly part of the reason it is the favorite for lawn care workers in the USA and militias around the globe. The 3rd generation (internally called A60) Celica was the final rear-drive chassis to use Toyota's Celica name. The next generation used a transverse front-drive setup that has become a de facto standard for economy cars, but up through 1985 you could get a Celica from the factory with a longintudinal engine and right wheel drive. The A60 generation also added rack-and-pinion steering for the first time and ASC (American Specialty Cars) were nice enough to modify a few of the coupe versions into a decent looking drop top. I've got to admit that I don't know why Toyota two different cars with the AE86 platform in Japan, first the Corolla Levin that was sold at the Toyota Corolla Store and then Sprinter Trueno that was sold at Toyota Auto Store...this setup is literally foreign to me...so I'll just start across the Pacific where Toyota dealers sold something called the Toyota Corolla DX, SR5, and GT-S...which was equally at home on a daily commute or doing Initial D style drifting. If you are in the market for a cheap ($5k-$7k) late model (MY 2000+) sports car (two seats...rag top...etc) there are a few obvious choices. The Boxster makes a good case -- but potential maintenance issues will be huge. The MX-5 Miata is ubiquitous and not special enough. The Audi TT suffers the same potential pocket robbing action as the Boxster but with more understeer...so what car could offer a reliable platform with a focus on handling and fun. The Subaru BRZ /Toyota 86 /Scion FR-S was the fruit of an arrangement between Subaru and Toyota to produce a world class 2+2 sports car for the masses. It offered an interesting combination of Subaru flat-4 power and Toyota mechanical bits...but was assembled at Subaru's Gunma plant in Japan. Sales in the US market for the combined BRZ/GT86/FR-S were low with something like 10,000 in 2017...so used examples have been expensive, except for this next one that has a salvage title...but nobody else will know when you are carving up the apexes of your local track. The Celica GT-Four was available in the US market, but it was discontinued by the time the 6th generation Celica was launched in 1993, so this next GT-Four is indeed a unicorn on this side of the Pacific Ocean. This next car REALLY stretches the limit of what you consider an appreciating classic car. It isn't fast, and it isn't really noticeable (most of the mindless automatons driving around in their beige pods won't blink twice at a Corolla wagon...even though it was never sold here in this generation and is the only one you'll ever see) and there are thousands of cars that offer more daily driver usability...but...BUT...this is an all-wheel-drive and manual-gearbox equipped Corolla imported from Japan with right-hand-drive and it will win all the street cred you can use at the next Japanese classic car show. Classic depreciation curves too a strange turn in the 2010 decade and cars that are 3 years old command about the same price as cars that are 10 years old. Cressida was a common character in Renaissance era stories about the Trojan war -- specifically she was the daughter of a Greek seer who falls in love with Trollius (a Trojan prince) and is later in love with the Greek soldier Diomedes...but the various stories have one common theme -- that Cressida is the paradigm of a faithless lover.
