A Little More Cowbell Doors: 1991 Toyota Sera

When I saw this next car come into our tips box I thought it might be too soon to post another one...but then I did a quick glace into the archives and found two things;  first, it has been almost a month since I posted the last one (where does the time go?) and second, there is no such thing as too much cow bell.  Because this is the cow bell of the automotive world and you should not fear the reaper.  Those scissors/lambo doors might be totally unnecessary, but they add an essential element to what would otherwise be a plain and lame.  Find this 1991 Toyota Sera offered for $5500 in Damascus, OR. I'm Not Joking and Don't Call Me Shirley: 1995 Toyota Sera

Everybody wants the best of both worlds.  Everybody wants a car that gets them street cred and respect for being "different" but that same body wants a car that is reliable and efficient...so where does a Prius cross with a Lamborghini?  Lemme tell ya.  It's called the Toyota Sera and is two parts Toyota Paseo and one part lambo door equipped JDM oddball.  Find this 1995 Toyota Sera offered for $8,800 in Orefield, PA via hemmings.com. Winged Victory: 1990 Toyota Sera

The Toyota Sera  was a Japanese market only 2+2 built on the compact Paseo platform from 1990-1996, which would be an otherwise completely forgettable front-drive penalty box except for its gullwing doors and JDM exclusivity.  With the doors closed and your econobox blinders on you'd probably drive or walk right past a Toyota Sera -- it does look like a Paseo or Tercel from the early 1990s.  But the minute you pop those doors and show off that right hand drive, you'll have JDM fans boys all over you like you are offering free vape pens.  Find this 1990 Toyota Sera offered for $13,000 in New Port Richey, FL via craigslist. Wings 'n' Thongs: 1990 Toyota Sera

Are you going to be the guy who buys some oddball car just because it has cool doors? Sure. I guess there are far more terrible reasons to buy a car...and I am certainly one of the people who encourages this sort of errant behavior...so get crackin! Find this 1990 Toyota Sera offered for $7800 in Seattle, WA via craigslist.  Tip from FuelTruck.

Siren Song: 1991 Toyota Sera

Do you want to be the center of attention at any car gathering?  Forget an over restored piece of American muscle, or some overpriced piece of Eurotrash.  And forget everything you know about getting attention...just pop open one of the scissors/wing doors on your Toyota Sera and attract car guys like a free beer.  Find this 1991 Toyota Sera offered for $7200 on Las Vegas, NV craigslist.  Tip from Rock On!

Trojapanese Horse: 1990 Toyota Sera

According to the account in book two of Virgil's Aeneid, the Greeks built a large horse out of wood and covered with fur that contained soldiers who were now free to pop open a hidden door and invade the city of Troy -- why this is called a Trojan Horse instead of a Greek Horse is beyond my understanding -- but the Japanese built a Trojan car of their own in the late 80s/early 90s.  It was called the Sera and it totally blends into the automotive econo-bland-space until you pop open those gull wing doors and reveal its true nature.  Find this 1990 Toyota Sera offered for $6,900 in Oceanside, NY via craigslist.  Tip from FuelTruck.
