Cummins Diesel Hot Rod: 1950 Chevrolet Pickup

There are two categories of cool cars in the world. The first is cars that are cool because they are fast/rare/unique and everybody knows it -- think Corvette ZO6, Shelby Mustangs, Dodge Demons, Ferraris and the like...the second group are cars that are cool because nobody knows what the heck they are looking at.  This next car is so far into that second group it is coming out the backside. Find this 1950 Chevrolet Pickup offered for $6500 in Piggott, AR via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.

Over the Top: 1988 Ford Cabover

Nobody really wants to go back to the smog filled skies of yesteryear...but there is just something about an aged vintage truck that just seems cool.  Back before trucks had automatic transmissions, self braking systems, automated driver logs, and diesel particulate filters...they were a smoke beltching metal beasts with a bionic heart driven by a guy named Kevin or Bud who drank cheap diner coffee as quickly as he could clog up lanes with discarded retreads...and it was glorious.  Relive your 80s trucker fantasies with this next over the top classic.  Find this 1988 Ford Cabover offered for $3000 in Concord, CA via craigslist.

TGB11 Cummins Diesel: 1975 Volvo C303

The C303 was the successor to the older C202 Laplander and had a distinguished military career of keeping moose safe in Scandinavia.  It makes the list of top ten unlikely motorsports icons; the C303 was victorious in the light truck class at the 1983 Paris Dakar Rally, but today's version is ready for some weekend camping. The C303 was powered by a B30 inline-6 from the factory, but today's model has been fitted with a proper hill climbing diesel Cummins 4BT.  Find this 1975 Volvo C303 here on eBay offered for $9,500 buy-it-now located in Parowan, UT with 3 days to go.

Cummins Diesel Power: 1972 Chevrolet C-10

I've been on a diesel kick in the last few months -- something about the glackity-glack of an idling oil burner mixed with the wheeeeeeeeeeeee of a spooling turbo has some strange appeal.  It has been sticking with me like the sweet aroma of diesel fuel C12H24, and I want this next beast.  Find this 1972 Chevrolet C-10 offered for $14,500 here on eBay buy-it-now or make-offer located in Riverside, CA.

PAWS: 2005 Dodge Magnum with Cummins 6BT Power

We've been on some kind of diesel haze induced bender over here on DT (starting with that SWEEET Ford Falcedes) I was going to title this next post "if  Dodge had built trucks" and then somebody nudged my elbow and told me "Dodge DOES build trucks".  "GET BACK INTO YOUR CLOWN CAVE, YOU FREAK" I screamed at what I hope was a hallucination brought on by my lack of sleep. But first pour me another bourbon, and tell me about this Dodge truck thing.  Find this 2005 Dodge Magnum with Cummins 6BT Power offered for $10,000 in Santa Maria, CA via craigslist. Tip from Sean.

Drivin' A Truck: 1974 Peterbilt 359 Cummins

I can't be the only one who fantasizes about driving a big old truck.  Driving a truck might not be a profession that your high school guidance counselor will recommend...but how many more Pharmacists does the world need...and I want to shift gears all day until my arm is swole. But I don't want to spend the few hundred grand that it costs for a new semi truck, so I'll find something more DT priced on craigslist.  Like this 1974 Peterbilt offered for $2,500 in Napa, CA via craigslist.

12 Valve 5.9 Cummins: 1993 Dodge Ram 2500 Extended Cab

If you enjoy the clack-ity-rack-ity sound of a good diesel, then look no more because the Cummins 12 Valve inline-6 is the heavy fuel burning engine that you want in your pickup.  The 5.9 are legendary for reliability, ruggedness, and surviving all kinds of abuse because they were an industrial/tractor engine that somehow ended up in the engine bay of a light truck, which is a far less needy application.  Find this 1993 Dodge Ram 2500 Extended Cab here on eBay bidding for $2,247 with 4 days to go, located in Clackamas, OR.

Coal Roller: 1960 Chevrolet Wagon with Cummins 5.9 Diesel

Rudolf Christian Karl Diesel's inventions in the field of compression ignition engine are well known, but there was a little known Englishman named Herbert Akroyd-Stuart who actually filed for a patent and built compression ignition engines with the help of Richard Hornsby before Diesel created his version.  If things had gone down a little differently, you could be watching youtube videos of people rolling coal in a hornsby-akroyd, but we can all agree that its good the German won the patent/naming conventions around compression ignition, and Englishmen won World War II.  Find this 1960 Chevrolet Wagon with Cummins 5.9 Diesel offered for $9,900 in Tri-Cities, TN via craigslist.

Truck-or-Treat: 1975 Ford F-250

One last quick feature before I take the kids out trick-and-treating, and this is one I wouldn't mind finding in my candy bucket. The sixth generation Ford F-series was produced from 1973 through 1979 on a chassis that was first released in 1965.  It was during this generation that the F-series took the prize as the best-selling truck in America, a title it has maintained ever since.  Find this 1975 Ford F-250 here on eBay bidding for $23,000 reserve-not-met with a few hours to go, located in West Jordan, UT.

Gerstenslager Conversion: 1954 Chevrolet Camper 4BT Cummins Power

Did somebody say Goldschläger?   No, no, we aren't talking about that terrible cinnamon schnapps/floor cleaner that comes with real gold flakes floating in the bottom...no.  We are talking about Gerstenslager, the Wooster, OH based custom coachworks company that started sometime in the mid 19th century, got big with bookmobiles in the '50s and still stamps vehicle body parts today.  Find this 1954 Chevrolet Camper with Gerstenslager conversion and 4BT Cummins power offered for $6,500 in Brighton, CO via craigslist. Tip from Zach Z.

10k: Out Of This World: 1965 Ford Galaxie Turbo Diesel Cummins 12V

The 3rd generation Ford Galaxie (1965-1968) was a behemoth of a full-sized automobile, and the sedan version crushes the scales at something like 3800 lbs dry...which isn't much more than the typical BMW 3-series these days, but back in the 1960s it was huge.  Not so huge that it would require a heavy duty turbocharged diesel engine up front...but...that is exactly what happened with this next combination of heavy fuel and patina.  Find this 1965 Ford Galaxie Turbo Diesel Cummins 12V offered for an undisclosed price (or trade) here on craigslist located in Atlanta, GA. Tip from Andy L.
