Hergestellt in Mexiko: 1998 Volkswagen Jetta 2.0 Wolfsburg Ed

I was watching some sort of big box streaming service on the tele the other day (how much longer can we go without live sports or a new season of the Grand Tour...?!?!?) and I stumbled upon a little gem starring the short guy from Top Gear -- a show called Richard Hammond's Big. Many of the episodes are about the little funny man exploring big dams and super turbines, but in one episode he visits the world's largest car factory in the town of Wolfsburg, Germany.  The Volkswagen plant punches out millions of peoples cars each year, but this next car was built in Mexico...wait...I thought the Wolfsburg Edition Jettas were made in Germany? Nope...vin starts with a 3..this is a NAFTA baby, but that doesn't mean you won't get mobbed at the next Cars & Covers(face) event because it has a manual gearbox and low miles for the age. Find this 1998 Volkswagen Jetta 2.0 Wolfsburg Ed offered for $5900 in Burbank, CA via craigslist.

Dies el Camino: 2006 Volkswagen Jetta TDI Pickup

In 1967 when John Lennon wrote and later performed his hit "All You Need Is Love", he was naturally lauded for his optimism and simplicity in focus.  However...he wasn't quite correct.  Because if I had been the 5th Beatle, I would have insisted that we sack this George Harrison character, and then re-title the song "All You Need Is Love And An El Camino".  That about covers it. Find this 2006 Volkswagen Jetta Pickup offered for $12,000 in Half Moon Bay, CA via craigslist.

A What What What? 1984 Grumman Olson Kubvan

Do you ever stumble upon a craigslist advertisement and think perhaps alzheimer's has finally set in?  How did I ever manage to survive on this rock for so many revolutions around the glowing orb of hot plasma and I've never heard of a Grumman Olson Kubvan.  Now I know.  I've seen it all.  Done.  Find this 1984 Grumman Olson Kubvan offered for $3,000 in Hartford, CT via craigslist. Tip from Rock On!

Oil Burner: 1986 Volkswagen Jetta Diesel

(Note from Editor Vince: The story was originally written for a nice $1k Jetta Diesel in SoCal, but the car was gone before the post went live, so the words have been rearranged to fit this uglier example)  by Al -- The 1980's were a rad decade; It was the era of Reganomics, Gordon Gecko, Big hair bands, hanging out in the mall checking out chicks and eating Hot Dog on a Stick. It was a simpler time before the internet. Instead of checking Craigslist every hour or so, you had to line up at 7-11 on Thursday morning to be one of the first to scope out the great deals in the Recycler. You can re-live those great times by buying this car. Asking only $1100 is this totally awesome 1985 Volkswagen Jetta in Bellingham, WA via craigslist.

Coffee Brake: Dieselgate, the Unshocking Scandal

by CFlo

As the owners of a 2010 Jetta Sportwagen TDI, last month my wife and I found ourselves smack in the middle of the latest auto-related media circus, Dieselgate. The Volkswagen diesel emissions "scandal." Shocked, dismayed, betrayed? No - I wasn't really surprised. You see, this type of thing has been going on for years in the auto industry and the public revelation of VW's cheating on the EPA Tier 2 Bin 5 testing explained an awful lot about the seemingly magical engine we've been enjoying for the past five years.

The day after Dieselgate broke into the news, I was driving our TDI wagon around Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
Fake smoke added for effect.

Belichick's New Ride: 2009 Volkswagen Jetta TDI DSG

The beating that Volkswagen has been taking over this emissions cheating debacle has been epic, and not wanting to be one to miss a bandwagon, or a chance to beat a dead horse...I'm gonna throw in my two cents.  First, however, I am going to make fun of the New England Patriots Cheatriots by introducing this next car as the perfect ride for Bill Belichick or Tom Brady...just gotta let a little air outta the tires first.  Find this 2009 Volkswagen Jetta TDI DSG here on eBay bidding for $4,156 with 1 days to go, located in Thomaston, CT.

2k: Uncommonly Stockish: 1988 Volkswagen Jetta Mk II

The Mk II Volkswagen Jetta was very successful during its 1984-1992 sales life and went on to be a favorite with VW fan boys around the globe.  Unfortunately, this means that most Mk II Jettas still around are stanced and/or ruined by ill-conceived swaps (2JZ-yo!!) and located a stock example is next to impossible.  So, finding one that doesn't have a plasti-dip hood or illest (just what is "illest" anyway -- it sounds like something you'd get from being un-vaccinated) stickers is gotta be a victory.  Find this 1988 Volkswagen Jetta Mk II offered for $2,000 in San Jose, CA via craigslist.  Tip from FuelTruck.

3k: Seller Submission: 2001 Volkswagen Jetta TDI

The Jetta is a small family sedan from Volkswagen, basically a large version of the Golf as it shares most major suspension/engine/interior components with the little hatchback.  In the cheap/used market the Jetta gets lost in the shuffle between the small/cute Golf/GTi and the larger and cooler Passat with W8 engines and all-wheel-drive...except that the Jetta was first to get turbo diesel injected power for the US market.  Find this 2001 Volkswagen Jetta TDI for sale in North Kingstown, RI for $3,500 via craigslist.  Seller submission from Art.
