The Jet Set Life: 1987 Citroen CX 25 Prestige

I hate to be the guy who pooh-poohs all the good ideas around here...but buying a 30 year old Citroen is sorta like buying a private jet.  Its not intrinsically a bad idea...its just that the consequences are less than desirable.  Sure, its nice to brag to your friends about your new toy, but maintenance is expensive, constant, and time consuming.  Plus, there is the danger associated with piloting one of these things, maintenance logs, FAA clearance, et cetera...all for something that is gonna spend more time perched on 3 wheels than zooming around taking you to exotic places.  Bottom line, you should only buy this car if it is an emotional impulse buy and you can afford it.  Find this 1987 Citroen CX 25 Prestige offered for $12500 in Palm Beach, FL via craigslist. Tip from Rock On!

The Spirit of Thankfullness: What Are You Thankful For?

Happy Thanksgiving to all you Turkey lovers out in cyber space...I think I want to dedicate today's Turkey day post to being thankful.  And I'd like to know what you are thankful for, but first I'm going to unveil the turkey...here it is...this 1971 Volkswagen Mini Camaro Z28 project offered for $3700 somewhere near Portland, OR.

APB for Anglophiles with a Streak of Masochism: 1980 MGB

This next car comes as a tip from SecondMouse who writes: Here is a low mileage 1980 MGB in pretty darn good shape, considering A) it was and always has been an MGB, and B) it is almost 40 years old. At $3250 asking price, it is a running, driving British classic and an example of the reason why Mazda created the Miata.  Even when new, these things could be a challenge to keep running. This one is offered with a variety of additional parts, including a spare trunk lid with a mounted luggage rack. If your tastes tend to classic British sport convertibles, and your lifestyle does not depend on a car that is routinely reliable, then this might be your ride. Find it here on craigslist in Katy, TX.

Dee You Eye: 1967 Volkswagen Custom Corona Bottle Car

In the world of custom cars there is a "custom" car and then there is a "KUSTOM" car and this next car fits squarely into the later category.  It is so rad that the only thing I see a problem is when you hit a DUI checkpoint, you might get hassled.  Otherwise, I'd daily drive this thing in a heartbeat. Find this 1967 Volkswagen Custom Corona Bottle Car offered for $7500 in Sacramento, CA via craigslist.

Sheep In A Wolf's Hoodie: 1966 Land Rover Defender on Pontiac Grand Prix Chassis

If you've ever spent time under a car, you know what you can get with a little hard work and a pair of donor cars.  All manner of crazy beasts start with a simple thought from some a mad scientist...but this next car is so perplexing that I'm going to have to give it the official Bearded Spock award and just hope it gets swallowed up in the next black hole to dimension Z.  Find this 1966 Land Rover Defender on a Pontiac Grand Prix Chassis offered for $2,500 in Taunton, MA via craigslist. Tip from Gregg.

PVC Fuel Line: 1974 Laser Porsche 917 Kit Car

I'm a fan of terrible cars, which is not so good for you guys because you've got to read this stuff and I write most of the articles, so you are going to need to suffer through some junk like this...crap, did I just say that out loud...double crap, did I just write that down.  Welp, the backspace button is broken on this keyboard, so you'll have to keep reading. Find this 1974 Laser Porsche 917 Kit Car offered for $16,500 near Tampa Bay, FL via craigslist. Tip from Rock On!

Dolph's Ride: 1963 Volvo Laplander L3313

I was watching this sweet Volvo Excavators advertisement on the youtubes when I pointed out to a friend that Dolph is driving a sweet old Ford pickup and my pal brazenly stated it was because there was nothing old school cool from Volvo that Dolph could drive...which was a complete load of steaming moose pucky because I could pick 50 different old school Swedish rides for the Lundgrenader.  Here is a 1963 Volvo Laplander L3313 offered for $6000 in Albuquerque, NM via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.

Eclipse of the Heart: 1957 Porsche 356 Speedster Outlaw Kit

The Porsche 356 was first built in Austria by a company called  Porsche Konstruktionen GesmbH in the smoldering ruins of WWII...but the little 356 isn't simply another inexpensive classic like its Beetle brother, but it is an expensive collectible that requires a leather tool case and a waxed mustache to properly drive...particularly in the Speedster version -- so it is no surprise that there are a number of kit-car versions that use Beetle components for the moving parts.  This next one..however..it is a real Bearded Spock universe weirdo that uses parts from a Mitsubishi to go forward.  Find this 1957 Porsche 356 Speedster Outlaw Kit offered for $12,500 in Port Hueneme, CA via craigslist. Tip from Sean.

The Art of War: 1981 Porsche 911 with Cadillac V8

The ancient Chinese philosopher Sun Tzu said a lot of things...but my top three have to be (1) "All warfare is based on deception." (2) "Pretend inferiority and encourage his arrogance." and (3) " It is better to drive Porsche with fake luggage engine cover that goes like a scalded cat than Porsche that handles like a Cadillac." Those ancient Chinese philosophers sure said some wacky stuff, but it sure makes a good t-shirt. Find this 1981 Porsche 911 here on eBay with Cadillac V8 bidding for $15,000 reserve-not-met with 9 days to go, located in Corona del Mar, CA. Tip from Rod S.

A What...With What? 1987 Triumph TR7 Buick V6

I have to admit that this next car has me a bit stumped...and I don't say that lightly because y'all know I love some random piles of parts that would otherwise seem to have no purpose.  But this thing.  Wow.  It was once a zippy little Triumph TR7 convertible with 4-cylinder power and an eye for the canyons, but it is now a slushbox equipped drag machine that is powered by a carb fed Buick V6.  There must be some kind of bracket racing out in the sticks that this thing is a hot dog for its class...but I just couldn't imagine taking it out for a Friday night cruise with the wife or trying to convince the judges at the 24 Hours of LeMons that this is a Class C car.  Find this 1987 Triumph TR7 Buick V6 offered for $4000 in Cincinnati, OH via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.

I Told You So...Again: 1990 Mazda MX-5 Miata

Back in 2015 we featured a 6k mile first generation MX-5 that was picked up by Jesse at Barnfinds.com and then sold for about the cost of 10 typical 200k MX-5s and at the time I wrote "Whoever buys this car will have a very nice example of one of the best selling roadsters of all time...but he will be faced with the same conundrum as the current seller -- how do you enjoy a car without racking up the miles?  Likely, this story will be continued."  The car was subsequently sold by the then owner because..well..you know.  A few months later in July 2016 the car showed back up on craigslist (now with 8k miles) with the then current owner trying to milk $11k from the little red cash cow.  Two years later and this car is back on the market, now with several modifications, 11,500 miles and offered for $11,500 -- find this 1990 Mazda MX-5 Miata offered for sale in Menlo Park, CA via craigslist. Tip from Matthew.

Somebody Lifted A Gremlin: 1981 AMC Eagle Kammback

The AMC Eagle was sold in a number of different body styles, but where things get confusing is when you transition from the 4-door sedan/wagon/coupe versions built on the AMC Concord chassis but the 2-door SX/4, Kammback, & Sundancer models were built on the AMC Spirit subcompact chassis.  However, there is nothing quite like combining the ungainly ride height of the Eagle with the Concord front end and a Gremlin rear end.  Find this 1981 AMC Eagle Kammback offered for $5000 in Edgewood, NM via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.

Buy Bi Bye: 1986 Maserati BiTurbo(s)

If one Maserati BiTurbo is the sign of an eccentric car collector, then two Maserati BiTurbos must be the sign of something else.  No...not mental illness..more like...the sign of a pragmatic eccentric car collector.  A hobbyist...nah...a hoarder...maybe...a connoisseur...YES? Find these 1986 Maserati BiTurbo 425 sedans offered for $2000 in Nawth Joy-zee via craigslist.  From Cory.

The Corvolvo? Volvette? 1992 Chevrolet Corvette Volvo 1800

This next car brings so many more questions than answers.  What am I looking at?  How did we get here?  When will this car be flipped for stupid money on eBay by MotoExotica?  How have we not featured this car on DT before?  How has CFlo not owned this car for a few years?  Would K2 Mystery Car approve?  How much is that doggy in the window? Who is KBZ and why does he wear a Mexican wrestler mask whenever he visits DT HQ?  How does the Smurf population reproduce with only boy smurfs? Why can't I have the time (and skillz) to build something like this?  Find this 1992 Chevrolet Corvette Volvo 1800 here on eBay with starting bid of $29,500 reserve-not-met and $40,000 buy-it-now located in Portage, IN.

Double Mack: 1959 Volkswagen Bus

The original Volkswagen Beetle "People's Car" aircooled rear-drive platform was adapted over the years to just about every possible kind of vehicle, from the people hauling Bus/Van to the off-road ready Thing...but I don't believe VW ever built a semi-truck version. Thankfully, we have hilly billies with welders to fix that mistake.  Find this 1959 Volkswagen Bus here on eBay bidding for $4,088 reserve-not-met with 1 day to go.

Risky Business: 2004 Audi S4 V8 6spd

In 2003 Audi replaced the previous twin-turbo V6 S4 sport sedan with a car that now featured V8 power...but with the same Audi Quattro four-wheel-drive grip and countless expensive repairs just waiting for whoever chooses to drive it past 100k miles.  This next one is REALLY cheap, which begs the question --how much can it really cost to repair?  Find this 2004 Audi S4 V8 6spd offered for $3000 in Los Angeles, CA via craigslist.

Twin Engine: 1953 International Rat Rod

If you've got an old car with an inline-6 engine up front the easy route to making power is to replace it with an number of domestic V8s...but the easy way isn't the DT way...no sir...NOT EVEN A LITTLE BIT!  The DT way to do things is to take your non-crossflow inline-6 and add another engine side-by-side -- then connect the 12 cylinders with a Rube Goldberg set of pulleys/belts and burn rubber all the way to the bank.  Find this 1953 International Rat Rod here on eBay bidding for $5,000 reserve-not-met located in Pell City, AL with 3 days to go. Tip from FuelTruck.
