The Matador was a stately styled coupe/sedan/wagon that replaced the Rebel in 1971 as American Motor Corp's (AMC) plus sized muscle coupe. In 1974 the Matador coupe was restyled in a completely different fashion from the sedan and it was cool enough for Francisco Scaramanga (one of Christopher Lee's greatest performances) to use a flying version to escape James Bond in The Man with the Golden Gun. I looked at this next car and said "wow, that is one well preserved 80s Jeep"...but then I noticed that the model year was a 2001? Wow. The TJ generation Jeep Wrangler was built from 1996 through 2006 on a chassis that was a mildly updated version of the 1986-1995 YJ Wranger that was originally developed by AMC during Renault ownership, which was just a slightly upgraded version of the CJ...you can see where this meandering path down Jeep history is going. The Matador replaced the Rebel in 1971 as American Motor Corp's plus sized muscle machine. By 1973 the muscle-car era was on its way out and the later cars tended to be softer, slower and are generally less collectable today - but don't rule them out of your classic search as they are also considerably cheaper...and 72 model year cars are still old enough to make some horsepower without ugly rubber bumpers.
