It was 1958, and American Motors Company (AMC) had only recently risen from the ashes of the merger between Nash-Kelvinator and the Hudson Motor Car Company, when they (AMC) released a compact called the Rambler American. The name was confusing because the Rambler brand was originally used from 1900-1914 before it was acquired by Nash, who sold a compact called the Nash Rambler from 1950-1957, but now the Rambler name was back as a brand with a model named after the new parent company, American. Exactly 46 years ago to this day (May 18th, 1969) the Apollo 10 mission launched from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The Rambler American (introduced in 1958) was a slightly updated version of the Nash Rambler and spans some of the confusing years of AMC vehicle nomenclature. When Nash merged with Hudson to form AMC (in 1954) it moved the Rambler
name upmarket under the Nash & Hudson names, but when it needed a
new compact in 1958, it reintroduced the old 1955 car under the Rambler

The Marlin was a "personal luxury" 2-door designed during the George Romney era at AMC and first released under the Rambler Marlin name and later rebadged as the AMC Marlin.
