Little, Yellow, Different, Better: 1960 Nash Metropolitan

This next car comes as a tip from SecondMouse who writes: Before there were compact cars, there were Nash Metropolitans. And you can't miss this one, in bright yellow. These cars were the perfect contrarian vehicle at the time. Buying one must have been like trading a Suburban for a Smart car. They are so odd, they put a smile on your face. This one needs a little work, but it runs and drives, and looks pretty good for the price. Find this 1960 Nash Metropolitan offered for $5500 near Houston, TX via craigslist.

Rambler Man: 1956 AMC Nash Rambler

Nowadays, safety and survivability in a crash is a given with all the government regulations and ratings.  But, back when you were only 10 or so years removed from flying a Mustang in combat over Germany, most car buyers didn't give much thought to crash protection.  However, if you did worry about such things, AMC had you covered.  Find this 1956 AMC Nash Rambler for sale in Burnaby, BC for $8,000 USD via craigslist.

Rare Ragtop: 1959 Nash Metropolitan Convertible

Not your typical Sunday cruiser but this one looks like a viable candidate for a great restoration.  From this 1959 Nash Metropolitan Convertible offered for $2,900 in Scottsdale, AZ via craigslist.

Made In Britian: 1961 Nash Metropolitan

The Nash Metropolitan was a strange car.  Smaller cars had (have?) been built, but few from the likes of big American companies like Nash (and later Hudson).  To make things even more obscene, the Metropolitan was build in England by Austin (BMC) and powered by small BMC engines.  Find this 1961 Nash Metropolitan here on eBay offered for $3,450 buy-it-now located in Dallas, TX.

10k: Airflyte: 1949 Nash Ambassador Super Special

You don't need a $175k 930 Turbo that makes an entrance like tin foil in a microwave for a weekend classic driver, all you need is cool looking ride that puts a smile on your face.  Aftermarket support for replacement parts is important if you plan on putting many miles on it and things like functioning heaters and AC might be important depending on where you live.  For the married man, capital investment price comes first because any such decisions need to be approved by the CFO, so the question is why spend the cash on makes/marques/models hopelessly inflated by greedy flipvestors when you can be cool & cheap instead?  A prime example is this 1949 Nash Ambassador Super Special currently bidding for $7,900 with less than 1 day to go.

5k: Bed, Bathtub & Beyond Body-On-Frame: 1949 Nash Super 600 2-Door

The Nash Super 600 was a big upside-down tub styled behemoth built in Kenosha, WI by the Nash-Kelvinator corporation.  Internet rumor has it that the Nash 600 was the first car to use unibody construction and the name 600 comes from the total distance you could drive on one tank of fuel (20 gal tank, 30 mpg...errr...you do the math...).   Find this 1949 Nash Super 600 2-door for sale in Henderson, MD currently bidding on ebay for $4,950 with 2 days to go.

10k: 1952 Nash Rambler Greenbrier Wagon; A Bathtub Woody

The Nash Rambler is no stranger to the pages of the Daily Turismo; it exudes vintage style and can be purchased without taking out a second mortgage.  The bathtub nickname was given because all four wheels had full covers and the body resembled an upside-down tub.  This 1952 Nash Rambler Greenbrier Wagon is bidding on ebay for $8,400 with 10 hours to go and located in a garage with some interesting wall 'art' in Roseburg, OR.

5k: 1960 Rambler American; Vintage Project

The Rambler American was a built by AMC starting in 1958, and is closely related to the 1955 Nash Rambler (the older Nash version was known as the "Bathtub" for its styling with front full wheel covers - pic here.)  When Nash merged with Hudson to form AMC (in 1954) it moved the Rambler name upmarket under the Nash & Hudson names, but when it needed a new compact in 1958, it reintroduced the old 1955 car under the Rambler brand as an American.  This 1960 Rambler American is for sale for $2800 in the Los Angeles South Bay area via craigslist.
