10k: AMC Woody: 1959 Rambler American Station Wagon

The Rambler American (introduced in 1958) was a slightly updated version of the Nash Rambler and spans some of the confusing years of AMC vehicle nomenclature.  When Nash merged with Hudson to form AMC (in 1954) it moved the Rambler name upmarket under the Nash & Hudson names, but when it needed a new compact in 1958, it reintroduced the old 1955 car under the Rambler brand as an American.  Find this 1959 Rambler American Station Wagon for sale in Bayside, CA currently bidding for $8,100 reserve-not-met with 1 day to go.

The earlier version of the Rambler American was known as the Bathtub Nash for its up-side-down bathtub styling when equipped with front and rear wheel covers.  The later versions lost the wheel covers, but kept the classic 50s styling.

The Rambler American was powered by a 3.2 liter flat head inline 6 that put out 90 horsepower and achieved remarkable fuel mileage for its time.  The Rambler won the famous Mobil Economy Run (a long distance coast-to-coast fuel economy competition put on by Mobil Gas) with an average of 25 miles per gallon in a long distance drive.
