The Renault Dauphine is a small rear-engine rear-drive economy sedan built as the French answer to the VW Beetle, Fiat 500 and Morris Minor. Most Dauphines have been recycled into refrigerator parts long ago, but the few that remain are dirt cheap. Find this 1965 Renault Dauphine for sale in Tulsa, OK for $2,500 via craigslist.
The owner of this Dauphine has added a black/white paint scheme, big blue light up top and the words "La Policia" on the door. Gendarme would be more appropriate for a small French car, but the police light would need to go unless you want regular tickets from your local 5-0.
The 845cc 4-cylinder rear mounted engine is good for 37 horsepower and is rumored to push the Dauphine from 0 to 60mph in 30 seconds. Wheeeeeeeeeeeeee...?

ReplyDeleteToo bad about the comic paint job. Also, little info in the ad regarding rust. Otherwise, what a nice cheap way into the funky car market. If it was next door, I certainly would take a look.

A neighbor of ours owned one in the mid-sixties. It was the very antithesis of the Beetle. The controls would fall off into your hand. France needs to not make cars.
