The first generation Volvo V70 essentially just a reboot of the Volvo 850 platform and combined a transverse engine setup with a modern safety features. It was the late 90s take on the old boxy Volvo 200 series but the front-drive low power versions were disappointing from a performance perspective, hence the introduction of the R version. Find this 1998 Volvo V70R AWD for sale in Portland, OR for $5,000 via craigslist. The Volvo V70R was only available with an automatic gearbox in the US Market, which was a supreme disappointment for wagon driving nuts in North America. Luckily for us, this one has had a 5-spd manual gearbox swapped in from another Volvo.
The V70R is powered by a 2.3 liter inline-5 tuned for 236 horsepower and 242 ft-lbs of torque from the factory, but this one has a bigger turbocharger, front mount intercooler and makes an undisclosed amount of power...probably more than stock.

~ i am wondering what the donor and transmission are. i think it's potentially a very wise upgrade. do you suppose it could be performed on the Cross-Country AWD version?
