Seller Submission: 2004 Volvo V70R

Volvo wagons had always been "cool" to drive around since the 1927 Volvo PV4 hit the streets with a thin diagonal rod holding the "iron mark" emblem in front of the grill.  The PV444 added to that coolness with a modern style wagon and you can't forget the iconic boxy body 145/245/740/940/850 wagons of the past few decades.  You couldn't really call any of them fast....at least not compared to any of their competition.  That all changed with the release of the 2004 model year Volvo V70R that combined a healthy turbocharged 300 horsepower 5-cylinder engine with all-wheel-drive, so you could have your cake and go really fast with it too.  Find this 2004 Volvo V70R offered for $6,500 in Burlingame, CA via craigslist.  Seller submission from Leon.

Seller Submission: 2000 Volvo V70R Sport Wagon

The V70R was Volvo's answer to the question: How do you go really fast with extended family all legally buckled inside?  The third row of seats meant that 7 people could enjoy the exhilaration of a inline-5 pushing boosted power & many torques into all four wheels.  Find this 2000 Volvo V70R Sport Wagon offered for $3,200 in Seattle, WA via craigslist.  Seller submission from Story.

Take A Chance On Me: 2000 Volvo V70R

by Kevin -- With only around 500 brought to the US, exclusivity is the name of the game with this 2000 Volvo V70R. Most importantly, it also got you the 261hp, turbo 5 cylinder engine capable of hauling this wagon to 60 in 6.5 seconds. Mamma Mia!  If you are interested in buying this 2000 Volvo V70R for around $3,500 located in Rochester, NY please e-mail DT directly at tips@dailyturismo.com.

Big Red Wagon: 2007 Volvo V70R

I remember getting my first ride in a V70R that a colleague had picked up new a few years ago.  With 5 "adults" packed into the interior it offered a surprising amount of forward thrust -- not the frenetic immediacy of something like an Evo or STI, but a nice wall of torque and passing power in any gear -- closer in performance to a B5 S4 than the winged rally boys.  When new the V70R cost its owner something near $50k, but 10 years later you can pick one up for a fraction of the original MSRP.  Find this 2007 Volvo V70R here on eBay bidding for $6,200 with 5 days to go. Seller Submission: 2006 Volvo V70R

I can remember the first time I got a ride in a 2nd generation (2004-2007) Volvo V70R.  It was a strange sensation of bombing down a surface street with 5 full sized adults on board and thinking wow, we are going fast...in a Volvo wagon. Really fast  AAAAAAAAAAAA, WATCH OUT FOR THOSE...hey, great brakes on this thing, anybody have a spare pair of pants?  If you want to experience the thrill of going faster than everybody expects, pick up this 2006 Volvo V70R offered for $10,000 in Menifee, CA via craigslist.  Seller submission from Colin.

10k: Stealth Schlepper: 2005 Volvo V70R, 6-spd Manual

Lots of ~300hp AWD cars have flashy names, flashy looks, and sporting pretenses. I'm looking at you, Subaru STi, Mitsubishi Evo, and Golf R. But those pocket rockets are all based on economy cars - decent as they are in standard form, the driving experience will always be a bit downmarket and the cut-cost platform will show itself in places like the interior, ride, and NVH. But what about a 300hp, turbocharged family mobile? This wasn't a common idea back when the Volvo 850 T-5R was introduced in 1996. By the second generation it had morphed into the S70R / V70R and gained AWD, but the 3rd-gen P2 car is when the formula really started to shine. Find this 2005 Volvo V70R for sale in Denver, CO for $8750 via craigslist. Tip from Oldsmobuick.

10k: Swedish Lead Sled: 2006 Volvo S60R 6-Speed

Tipper Brian P sent us a link for a salvage-title, high-mile 2004 Volvo V70R 6-spd Wagon, but the listing was canceled by the seller (off ebay sale?) before we had a chance to feature it.  With the taste of a 300 horsepower, all-wheel-drive, 6-speed manual Volvo still fresh in my mind, I headed off to ebay to find another hit.  Find this 2006 Volvo S60R 6-Speed offered for $12,975 or best offer on ebay with 14 days to go, located in Opa-Locka, FL.

5k: 5-Spd Swap: 1998 Volvo V70R AWD

The first generation Volvo V70 essentially just a reboot of the Volvo 850 platform and combined a transverse engine setup with a modern safety features.  It was the late 90s take on the old boxy Volvo 200 series but the front-drive low power versions were disappointing from a performance perspective, hence the introduction of the R version.  Find this 1998 Volvo V70R AWD for sale in Portland, OR for $5,000 via craigslist.

10k: Happy Thorsgiving: 2006 Volvo V70R Wagon 6spd

A Thorsgiving celebration would not be complete without the traditional razing of a barn, a game of moose pucky football and most importantly, the revering of turbocharged manual transmission wagons.  Many of the turbo bricks you will find on these pages are the product of madmen, blow torches and amphetamine haze, but this one is pure stock Volvo goodness.  Find this 2006 Volvo V70 R Wagon 6spd for sale in North Brookfield, MA for $11,995 buy-it-now on ebay.

10k: Thor's Hammer: 2005 Volvo V70R 6-spd

The V70 was a mid-sized wagon from Volvo, the V standing for Versatility and the 70 falling into Volvo's Ford ownership era naming standards, a basic designation for size.  In the second generation (2000-2007) the standard V70 was a typical front-drive snoozer, but the R version was a real treat for enthusiasts, equipped with a 5-cylinder turbo, 6-speed manual gearbox and all-wheel-drive.  Luckily for penny pinchers and poor folks alike, the mid-sized luxury wagon category isn't exactly known for being depreciation proof.  Find this 2005 Volvo V70R 6-spd for sale in Wellington, NV for $9,000 via craigslist.

10k: 2004 Volvo V70R; AWD Thorsday

DT mostly focuses on older rear wheel drive Volvos (and sometimes SAABs) on Thorsday but today we decided to branch out and entertain a more modern twist on Swedish performance. The V70R was Volvo's wagon companion to the S60R, which was a midsize performance car aimed loosely at the German rocketship sports sedans like the BMW M5, Audi RS6 and Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG. Power is down quite a bit compared to that Teutonic trio, but this Swede can still make jam out of your lingonberries - with room for the kids, dogs and skis too. This 2004 Volvo V70R is offered on ebay for $8000 opening bid, with no reserve, in Holderness, New Hampshire.
