With Motocompo: 1981 Honda City R

We've featured the cool as ice liquid nitrogen Honda City before, and it was even the sweet Turbo II version.  That was back in 2012 and times have changed...mostly cool cars have appreciated in value, so back then $15k would get you the Turbo II but now the same amount of cash gets you the basic City R...but it does come with a matching Motocompo scooter that would have come from the factory in the rear hatch area.  Now if Tesla or one of those hipster electric car startups (Faraday or Gazoo...wait...Ganoo...errr..the company that Evolocity turned into is called...err Canoo..probably) took noticed and packaged an electric scooter in their electric city car..I still wouldn't buy a new car because they are stinkin expensive, but i'd consider them when they were 10 years old and depreciated.  Anyway..I feel like I've lost the thread of this...YES...find this 1981 Honda City R with Motocompo for $15000 in West Hollywood, CA via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.

Fourgonette About It: 1980 Willam Fourgonnette

Do not attempt to adjust your monitor -- the images you are seeing are indeed true to life, but might be shocking to some viewers.  Long before the Scion xB or Nissan Cube were introduced, there was a little car builder in Italy that figured out that a scooter powered car in France would sell like hot cakes.  Find this 1980 Willam Fourgonnette here on eBay bidding for $1738 reserve-not-met located in Antibes, France with 4 days to go.

Triumph of will: 1956/1957 Triumph Fips

If you've watched a couple of episodes of The Grand Tour, you've heard Clarkson quip a couple of times about the Queen being German.  The house of Windsor does have some German royalty in it, much to chagrin of some.  The same can be said for the most British of bikes, Triumph.  Find this 1956 or 1957 Triumph Fips for sale in Horace, ND for $2,800 via craigslist.

Don't Feed the Trolls: 1963 IWL Troll Scooter

In Scandinavian folklore, trolls are ugly, evil, dangerous giants that lived in caves and roamed the countryside at night.  Trolls liked to eat humans, or if they weren't hungry, throw stones at people and descry their villages. Nowadays trolls roam the internet at night and make life difficult for the thin skinned and easily offended.  Either way, an odd choice for a product name.  Find this 1963 IWL Troll Scooter for sale in Puyallup, WA for $3,800 via craigslist.

Little Bagger: 1963 Cushman Super Silver Eagle

When I say motor scooter, you probably imagine a European (probably Italian) step through scooter, ideally with Audrey Hepburn driving it.  The American scooter manufacturer Cushman had a distinctly American take on the scooter, which of course, looked like a miniaturized Harley.  Find this 1963 Cushman Super Silver Eagle for sale on Vancouver Island, Canada for $4,000 via craigslist.

1948 Indian Papoose

I say the word Indian in the motorcycle context and you probably think of a Harley-like bike with fairings and fenders.  But, after the war, Indian also sold smaller stuff until its bankruptcy in 1955.  Find this 1948 Indian Papoose for sale on eBay in Stoney Point, NY with a $3,200 buy it now. This post is part of DT's 2016 Birthday Celebration of 100 cars; enjoy the ride!

Dressing on the side: 1968 Vespa VBB 150 with Sidecar

The Vespa scooter made its debut in post-war Milan in 1946. Intended to get Italy back on the road, it sold poorly at first, selling only 2,500 in 1946. The VBA/VBB series replaced the original design in 1957 and went on to sell over 750,000 units. Find this 1968 Vespa VBB 150 with Sidecar for sale in Undisclosed, WA for $6,995 via craigslist.

Honeybee: 1966 Vespa Ape

Italy was flattened after the Second World War.  By virtue of fighting on both sides, it, or more importantly, its industry and economy were losers.  In the post war years, Italian transport industry righted itself by making scooters and other inexpensive vehicles since that was all the populace could afford.  But what if you needed something larger to transport your goods, but couldn't afford a truck?  Find this 1966 Vespa Ape Truck for sale in McMinnville, OR for $7,775 via craigslist.

New Traditionalist: 1986 Honda Elite Scooter

In the 1980's Honda was ready to give the past the slip and establish new traditions for scooters.  They were ready to eliminate the ninnies and the twits and create a beautiful world, and that's good.  Why believe in things that make it tough on you; it is your duty now for the future to find this 1986 Honda Elite CH125 Scooter for sale in Beaverton, OR for $600 via craigslist.

Continuing our theme of cheap and sensible motoring without a silly gear lever, brings us to this next sophisticated urban runabout.  If you are looking to combine out air excitement, fuel sipping fun, and easy city parking, it doesn't get much better than a Vespa built by Italian mega conglomerate Piaggio & C. 1k: 21 Window Miniature: 1963 Volkswagen Bus Scooter

The current craze of everything relating to the Volkswagen Type 2 Bus has been entertaining to watch to say the least.  All but abandoned for scrap a few years ago and inhabited by penniless surfers, the Bus made an epic comeback of a proportion not matched except by this month's resurgence of the Cold War.  Prices for 21 and 23-window Sambas (sounds like a dance you do at a South American state funeral - e.g. "Col. Avarez was honored with the traditional 21 window Samba salute, it took hours to clean up all the glass") have scooted out of the reach of those without proper funds.  Today, we've got the Walmart version of the VW Bus, in more ways than one.  Find this 1963 Volkswagen Bus Scooter for sale in Upland, CA for $2,750 via craigslist.

15k: 1986 Honda City Turbo II w/ Motocompo Scooter

The Honda City was a subcompact car for the Japanese market - not quite small enough to be classified as a Kei-car, but a miniature little runabout with a surprising amount of space on the inside.  The base City was not a fast car, but that was before Mugen Founder Hirotoshi Honda (son of Honda founder Soichiro Honda) created a wild Turbo version for the local market.  This first generation (AA) 1986 Honda City Turbo II is for sale in Phoenix, AZ for $15,000 buy-it-now on ebay (Thanks to tip from DT reader Andrew L).
