If you've watched a couple of episodes of The Grand Tour, you've heard Clarkson quip a couple of times about the Queen being German. The house of Windsor does have some German royalty in it, much to chagrin of some. The same can be said for the most British of bikes, Triumph
. Find this 1956 or 1957 Triumph Fips for sale in Horace, ND for $2,800 via craigslist.
Siegfried Bettmann founded Triumph Bicycles in Coventry, England in the late 1880's. A few years later he founded a second plant in his native city of Nurnberg, Germany. The two factories continued to be linked until 1913, when they went their separate ways. Triumph in England continues to make motorcycles to this day, whereas the German Triumph ceased existence in 1956.
The Fips was the last scooter made by the German Triumph company, ending production in 1957. It was powered by a 1 hp 47cc Sachs two stroke or one human power.
Somehow this scoot made it to North Dakota, looks to be complete, but the current caretaker can't get it to run.

Wow, that's a moped with serious STYLE! A Sach 2-stroke should be save-able if it is not seized (and even then....). The price seems stiff to me, but the only mopeds I really know are VeloSolex. Oops, I see the ad is gone now, so maybe someone else thought the price was reasonable!
