President's Weekend: 1979 Dodge Diplomat

President's Day Holiday is this upcoming Monday, so a few lucky folks get a three day weekend...and around here we are going to bring you a collection of executive class cars, but first we've got an oddball.  Find this 1979 Dodge Diplomat offered for $3,500 in Ft Myers, FL via craigslist. Tip from Dascpcu.


I'm having a hard time being diplomatic when I say this...but...this car is kind of a pile of junk.  YES, it is a 65k mile example with a gorgeous red interior...but...BUT...it is a Dodge Diplomat. 



The Diplomat was a gussied up version of the Dodge Aspen which was just a slightly retooled Dodge Dart.  Unfortunately the 70s were not condusive towards performance and the 318 cubic inch LA-series V8 put out a smog throttled 135 horsepower while the 225 slant-6 version puts out 100 horsepower.

    How do I say this diplomatically? I would veto the purchase of this automobile.
