Transportapotty or Microbebus: 1973 Volkswagen Type 2 (T2) Bus

This next car...errr..bus..comes as a tip from SecondMouse who writes: You don't see these too often anymore. Volkswagens from this era seemed particularly prone to catching the rust bug. When you do see one, it is either in a Woodstock documentary or Jay Leno's car collection. This appears to be a somewhat complete collection of parts roughly fashioned into a 1973 VW Bus, in an undriveable state for less than the cost of a new hairpiece. All it lacks is a balding hippie with a fat wallet and fond memories of their halcyon days in the back of one of these.  Find this 1973 Volkswagen Type 2 (T2) Bus offered for $2,500 in Houston, TX via craigslist.

Ford V6 Power: 1972 Volkswagen Camper

Something must be in the water, because it isn't often that you'll find a vintage Volkswagen camper for a decent price, It wasn't that long ago that the VW Type 2 was the vehicle of choice for hippies, derelicts, and communists because they were almost free, but finding one for $7,500 is a good deal today.  Find this 1972 Volkswagen Camper offered for $7,500 in North Port, FL via craigslist.  Tip from Dascpcu.

Diesel Conversion: 1985 Volkswagen Vanagon Type 2 T3

The  Type 2 Vanagon (T3) was released in 1980 and replaced the aging Volkswagen Transporter T2.  The new version added a number of refinements in terms of speed/ride/capability in exchange for a less cool looking package, but today's T3 brings even more utility than normal.  Find this 1985 Volkswagen Vanagon T3 offered for $7,500 in Phoenix, AZ via craigslist.

Look At That Van Gogh: 1972 Volkswagen Type 2 Van Camper with Ford V6

The 2nd generation Volkswagen Type 2 Van was built starting in 1967 and finished in 1979, but its legacy is nowhere near being complete.  Most Type 2s left the factory as simple people carriers blissfully unaware that their owners would turn them into death machines or, even stranger, swap in a Ford V6.  Find this 1972 Volkswagen Type 2 Van Camper offered for $4,000 on craigslist (or here on the Samba) located in Lincoln, NE.

Green Monster: 1980 Volkswagen Type 2 Transporter DoKa TDI Swap

The Volkswagen Type 2 was revamped in the 1980 model year and became what is known as the T3, or Vanagon for the US Market.  Today's example started life as a European born Transporter and spent some time as an army vehicle for the German military.  Thankfully, Germany didn't try to conquer the known world for a 3rd time in the 20th century and that means this next vehicle isn't riddled with bullets or covered with evil insignia.  Find this 1980 Volkswagen Vanagon DoKa TDI here on eBay bidding for $8,675 with 1 day to go, located in Portland, OR.

Tdi Powered Hunter: 1989 Volkswagen Type 2 Doka Syncro Jagdwagen

The DoKa version (a truncation of the German word for double cab-- Doppelkabine) is a strange looking combination of crew cab pickup and El Camino.  The Doka offers ample seating for a small family and plenty of room in the back for a large tent to be placed on a sketchy elevated platform if you are camping in a place called Scorpion Valley...but this Doka is also a Jadgwagen, and Tdi powered.  Find this 1989 Volkswagen Doka Syncro Jagdwagen with 03 Tdi swap here on eBay bidding for $14,322 with 6 days to go, located in Evergreen, CO.

Starstruck: 1981 Volkswagen Type 2 Vanagon Westfalia Camper

The third generation (T3) of VW's legendary 'Type 2 Transporter' continued the formula set up by its predecessors of slow, tippy (or is that trippy?), and reliable.  It was marketed in the USA as the Vanagon from 1979-1993 and the one to get is the Westfalia camper version in which you get a pop up top, a full kitchen and sleeping accommodations for four adults! Find this 1981 Volkswagen Type 2 Westfalia Camper offered for $9,000 in Carpenteria, CA via craigslist.

5k: Rust Bucket: 1969 Volkswagen Type 2 DoKa

The Volkswagen Type 2 was an insanely successful people carrier from those crazy Germans, known as a Bus, Vanagon, Kombi, etc. The DoKa version (a truncation of the German word for double cab-- Doppelkabine) is a strange looking combination of crew cab pickup and clown mobile.  Find this 1969 Volkswagen Type 2 DoKa offered for $6,700 in Oakdale, CA via craigslist.  Tip from Berkeley C.

5k: Surfs Up Dude: 1972 Volkswagen Type 2 Kombi Van

Prices for Volkswagen type 2 (Bus, Vanagon, Van, Kombi, whatever you call it) have seen a particularly rapid price increase in recent years.  What was once the cheap refuge for barefoot hippies is now an appreciating asset that can be traded for significant Woodstock memorabilia, college tuition or North Shore vacation, but today's feature isn't as high as the typical overpriced Type 2 garage queen.  Find this 1972 Volkswagen Type 2 Kombi Van offered for $5400 in Palm Beach, FL via craigslist.  Tip from Fueltruck.

10k: Diesel Power: 1982 Volkswagen Type 2 T3 Tischer Camper

We've featured a number of RVs recently that have been met with positive comments and back-pats all around.  While I don't want to turn the site into a parade of motorhomes, it won't hurt to post a few once in a while....right?  Find this 1982 Volkswagen Type 2 T3 Camper offered for  $5,900 reserve-not-met with a few hours to go.

10k: Ready For Takeoff: 1983 Volkswagen Westfalia Vanagon Type 2 (T3)

The Dodge Tradesman camper featured yesterday elicited some comparisons from our readers to the Volkswagen Vanagon.  The comparisons tilted heavily towards the undeniable awesomeness of the Tradesman and the ridiculous prices of a classic Bus...but...perhaps a Westfalia from the '80s can make a decent competitor to the big ole Dodge.  Find this 1983 VW Westfalia Vanagon offered for $9,900 in Port Charlotte, FL via craigslist.  Tip from Dascpcu.

Welcome to Daily Turismo's Syncro de Mayo, our May 5th celebration of all Volkswagen's four wheel drive system known as Syncro.  Up first is a fantastic combination of VW's Syncro system in a factory El Caminoized double cab (Doka, which comes from the German word for double cab-- Doppelkabine) Volkswagen Type 2 (T3).  Find this 1990 Volkswagen Type 2 (T3) Syncro Doka  offered for $10,000 in Saginaw, MI via craigslist.  Tip from Andy L.

5k: Type Too Cheap: 1971 Volkswagen Kombi Type 2

You've heard us complain about the skyrocketing prices of all manner of Volkswagen Type 2 versions about as often as we rave about El Caminoing the planet...but...it isn't for lack of liking the venerable Vanagon.  Quite the opposite, if one can be found for a reasonable price they offer a great amount of usability, frugality and cool in a bread loaf shaped package.  Find this 1971 Volkswagen Bus Type 2 (T2) offered for $5,700 in Sammash, WA via craigslist.  Tip from FuelTruck.
