The Oldsmobile corporate slogan in early 1986 was "There's a special feel in an Oldsmobile"...which is ironic because that "special feel" wasn't necessarily a good thing...but the corporate goons at Olds changed it in late 1986 to "Oldsmobile Quality. If you surf craigslist on a regular basis, you've probably seen everything. People claiming all kinds of stuff that clearly isn't true (this is one of one) and then random threats director at strangers (if nobody buys it, I'm going to polish the headlights and then double the price)...but this next advert has something I've never seen before...a seller who claims he is dying and needs to dispose of his car collection in a "pre-death" estate sale so his next of kin doesn't have to bother...and while I respect the sentiment, I'm kinda horrified.  Not horrified enough to NOT post this...but wow. Brougham Wagon: 1976 Cadillac Fleetwood Castillian Estate

To say that this next car will need some restoration is a bit of an understatement.  The interior will need to be nuked from orbit (it's the only way to be sure) and there is enough rust to earn a spot on the endangered species list...but...BUT...this thing is wicked sweet.  It started life from the Cadillac factory as a 4-door sedan, but the guys at  Traditional Coach Works in Chatsworth, CA transformed it into a wagon with a large rear hatch and a custom roof. She Make Me Feel All-Right: 1992 Nissan Gloria Brougham Y32

Assumptions are a bad thing to make...and for years I just assumed that the song Gloria that I'd heard on the radio a thousand times was belted out by Mic Jagger of the Rolling Stones...but the guy who shouts out "She make me feel all-right...and her name is G-L-O-R-I...G-L-O-R-I-A GLORIA" was in fact Van Morrison singing with his group Them.  So the  moral of this story might be that you should never judge a book by its cover...and you might just drive right by this car and assume it was some kind of Nissan Maxima...but it isn't...it is the superb Y32 rear-drive generation Nissan G-L-O-R-I-A GLORIA! Florence's Long Roof- 1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera Brougham Wagon

The Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera was a 1980's fwd shrunken equivalent of near any 60's or 70's GM car.  These cars had a relatively long model run from 1982-1996 and were available as a coupe, sedan, and wagon.  Everything on the interior would have been very familiar to any senior citizen from the column shifter to the ribbon speedometer to the flat seats.  In keeping with tradition, the Ciera had a optional Brougham package which fitted today's wagon with vinyl wood grain trim all over.  The conservative approach was rounded out with 14" whitewall tires along with wire wheel hubcaps.  All of these niceties were catnip for traditional GM drivers.  Find this 1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera Brougham wagon for sale in Stamford, CT for $5,000 via craigslist.

Floating Castle: 1995 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham

This next car comes from Tanj! who writes: Not mine.  Saw this as part of my morning searches.  Low mile 1995 Fleetwood Brougham for sale in Austin for $4.3k.  Leather seats look presentable.  All chrome bits are intact and look undamaged.  Even better all the plastic trim bits on the chrome and bumpers appear undamaged.  Same for the reverse lights (between the bumper and rear sail panel).  95 starts the beginning of the larger side mirrors moved up from the doors and is the last year of OBD-I and first year of the PWM improvements made to the transmission for better shifting feel.  And it looks like the seller might be an enthusiast for the brand or model as their is another D-Body in the background of one of the photos.

Tufted Chocolate: 1984 Buick LeSabre

A good rule of thumb is to buy someone else's completed project car.  In nearly all cases, it's far cheaper than paying for a restoration yourself.  Today's car presents the question, is it madness or genius to spend twelve grand building up a sleeper GM B-body? The 84 Buick LeSabre is the cousin of the same year Chevy Caprice. Last week at the NY Auto Show, Johan De Nysschen was fielding questions from a circle of roughly twenty auto journalists (and myself) about Cadillac's future plans.  On his last call for questions, I briefly considered asking whether there would be a CT6 Bro-ham or CT6 Talisman edition on the horizon.  Sensing he might not have been amused with my question, I kept it to myself and giggled at what his response might have been.  Sadly, the combo of baby blue paint over baby blue leather seats over a baby blue dash is not available on the 2017 Cadillac option list.  The color palette of the 1960's cars was quite a bit more adventurous than today.  Don't worry though as this 1967 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham is for sale in Wappingers Falls, NY for $7,500 via craigslist.

With all of the V8 swapped oddballs we like to feature here on DT, we had to eventually start practicing what we preach. This build was over 3 years in the making, and we finally ran it this October in its maiden 24 Hours of Lemons endurance race at Buttonwillow Raceway Park in California's dusty Central Valley. Time to share!

The story started in 2012 with the first incarnation of our newest build for the 24 Hours of Lemons. It was a 1993 BMW 325i (E36) 4-door that old friend Dan (Listener Dan of DT Radio fame) had bought back in Michigan about 10 years earlier. Needless to say, there was rust. At the time, there weren’t any other E36s in Lemons that we knew of, so we figured the rust would help our cause in convincing the judges this was a $500 car. In California you’d be hard pressed to find someone to pay $250 for this thing except as a parts car.

10k: XXL In The City: 1972 Chrysler New Yorker Brougham

 Big city life is horrible.  First, you are forced to live in tiny apartments only affordable because of draconian rent control rules that mean your neighbors pay 75 cents a month to live and the slumlord owners won't fix the hot water heater because he just replaced it in the 70s.  If living like a great white shark in a kiddy pool isn't bad enough, the streets outside are no better.  The main streets are are congested like the arteries of a baconivore, so you hop on the alleyways only to find they too have turned into mini bypasses filled with litter and hobos.  But the worst part is this; when you need to park a car.  Forget about finding a spot, particularly if your vehicle is large...and large means it's longer than a shoebox.  Will a Camry fit in that spot?  Probably not?  What about a classic Chrysler New Yorker that is as big as a whale?  Forget it, I'm moving to the country.  Find this 1972 Chrysler New Yorker Brougham offered for $8,500 in San Francisco, CA via craigslist.  Another Kaibeezy find.
