I've always been a fan of the 6th generation T200 Toyota Celica...particularly in the liftback style -- it combines decent sportiness (for a 90s Japanese economy car) with everyday practicality (hatchback!) and not-to-hideous styling. The E70 Corolla was the fourth generation of Toyota's best selling subcompact, and the last to retain a conventional longitudinal front engine rear-drive setup (with the exception of the AE86 "Hachi-Roku" coupe). In 1979 AMC released a compact 4X4 oddball called the Eagle that was one part answer to the OPEC oil embargo and one part sheer insanity. 4X4s were supposed to be these big, short-wheelbase Jeepy things, or trucks, not a small station wagon shaped thing with optional wood siding!! In the "completely boring when it was new but somehow cool and interesting now" category, please direct your attention to the specimen below. The fifth generation Toyota Celia was released for the 1990 model year with all new "Super Round" organic styling and further refinement on the rock solid build quality that was beginning to be synonymous with the word Toyota. It wasn't an exciting car by any yardstick, but the GT-Four version (All-Trac in the US) added some needed power, all-wheel-drive traction, and, most importantly, a prominent hood scoop to the basic version. It always happens, whenever we find a cool version of a particular classic, there is always a better example lurking somewhere on the internet. To post or not to post is always the question.
