The Ford Escort was a small family car that was legendary for its durability, performance (relatively speaking) and general awesomeness...but that was in Europe and around the world in places that Ford deemed worthy like Australia and New Zealand...but in the US of A, we had to wait until 1981 when a "for us, by us" version was released into the American market and it was a front-wheel-drive pile of plastic garbage.  It was a fake, an improperly labeled pile of disappointment, a con, a $1000 check from the US treasury that  bounces, an N95 mask pre-worn by an active coronavirus patient, a Kardashian sex tape starring Rob Kardashian. Nobody, and I mean, NOBODY wants a first generation US Escort.  Despite that introduction, I sorta think this could be a fun car to thrash for a few weeks before rolling off a cliff. Too Good To Be True? 1972 MGB GT

The MGB GT was a fixed roof version of Morris Garage's iconic MGB roadster, introduced in 1965 and built through 1980 for various markets.  When first released, the GT used the same BMC B-series inline-4 cylinder engine, but added small back seats for kids and a gorgeous Pininfarina designed greenhouse with a fastback lift-gate and storage area.  Prices for most classic European cars have graduated info crazy territory, but the MGB GT has remained surprisingly affordable for whatever reason, but I wouldn't expect that to last forever.  Find this 1972 MGB GT offered for $6,100 in San Francisco, CA via craigslist.

Built Stroker: 1973 Mercury Comet GT

If the Ford Maverick is the little known step brother of the Mustang, then it's cousin the Mercury Comet is even more obscure.  The Comet GT trim level was the muscle car trim package that upped the ante with the 302 V8 engine.  These cars were originally conceived as import fighters, but in reality duked it out for sales with the Chevy Nova and Dodge Dart...and they make a nice platform for a V8 cruiser today. Grounded To The Ground: 2005 Subaru Legacy GT

This next car comes as tip from Jeff who writes: Nice long roof for the money! It does need a bit of work, but doesn't seem huge for the right person.  I like it because I like Subie wagons, but I think this one is too grounded to the ground for me...and the color is odd..but it is a wrap that could probably be removed exposing the original blue paint..which probably has flaking clearcoat and lots of scratches.  Maybe leave the wrap. In Plain Sight: 1993 Ford Probe GT

I was watching some old TV show on my preferred streaming service the other day and it was USA Networks 2008-2012 In Plan Sight...yeah...I know.  Anyway, the main character is a US Marshal lady who puts people in the Federal Witness Protection Program -- and in the first episode she is driving a beat up 1990s Ford Probe.  My car senses tingled and I had to process this...is this the right car for a US Marshal to be driving in 2008?  Why wouldn't she have a Crown Vic company car...and with her own money shouldn't she drive something better?  A few episodes in and it seriously fits the character well and then this tip came through. The Fiero was first launched in 1984, but GM finally fitted the mid engine Fiero with a proper suspension for the 1988 model year and then promptly discontinued the car.  The 1988 cars are the rarest and most desirable Fiero's to own.  These cars are definitely on the DT list of most commonly featured engine swaps.  Today's car prompts a tough question to answer: is it wiser a to leave a stock 1988 car alone or throw caution to the wind and pick a favorite GM fwd engine to swap in??  Will a nice 1988 Fiero GT ever appreciate in the future?  I think I'll stick to this stock example.
