Bracq Friday Continues: 1966 Mercedes-Benz 200D W110

This next beast is a continuation of our Bracq Friday spectacular from yesterday -- a festival of the best stuff from French born automotive legend Paul Bracq.  The W110 fintail Mercedes-Benz was an evolution of the older W120 Ponton shape, but added little "fins" on the rear quarters and was more modern in its shape and less bulbous.  Legend has it that one of Paul Bracqs first job as an automobile designer at Mercedes-Benz was to design the rear taillights that you see on this next car. This next car is a celebration of Bracq Friday -- a festival of the best stuff from French born automotive legend Paul Bracq.  I know the days of getting a running/driving car for $500 are long behind us...and $500 will barely get you the parts to do your own brake job on a late model car...but I still hold hope for the occasional used pile of junk car that is cheap not because it is rusted out, but because only a few crazy people (myself included) would want it...and I think I found a good one today...although you will need to source a few key parts before getting it back on the road. Bracq Fivespeed: 1984 BMW 733i

This next car is a continuation of our Bracq Friday spectacular from yesterday -- a festival of the best stuff from French born automotive legend Paul Bracq.  The E23 7-series was released in 1977 as the first BMW to wear the 7XX designation and as a replacement for the aging E3 New Six platform.  The changes were more evolutionary than revolutionary, but the Paul Bracq designed shark nose shape is certainly more modern looking than the New Six, in part because it has a higher beltline, and smaller greenhouse. The E24 generation BMW 6-series is a paradigm of the expression "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" -- because the model lasted from 1976 through 1989 -- a 13 year lifespan of mostly unchanged engineering during the malaise era that was almost unmatched.  It is, of course, yet another example of a brilliant design from Paul Bracq and a perfect car to kickoff our Bracq Friday celebration. Bracq Friday: 1971 Mercedes-Benz 250 W114

The Mercedes-Benz W114 occupies one of those weird niches in the classic car world - it's old enough to be gazed upon fondly through the tint of nostalgia, yet not particularly revered among Euro car guys. Perhaps it's because it's the successor of the hipster-cool Heckflosse / Fintail sedans, but the predecessor of the granola munchers' standard-issue W123, and doesn't stand out as much as either of those generations. 3400 Miles From LA: 1972 Mercedes-Benz 220D W114

The classic car market is currently booming across the USA, blame the rise of the car investor (checking accounts don't pay squat and stocks are a roller coaster...so why not invest in cars?), lazy people, or greedy people or the Venn diagram of those three groups...anyway, Canada isn't seeing the same level of insanity (for whatever reason) and Alaska is basically the 11th Canadian province.  Now is a fantastic time to buy a car in Alaska and drive it home to the overvalued urban US mainland market where hipsters will pay you top dollar for anything except hygiene supplies.  Find this 1972 Mercedes-Benz 220D W114 offered for $6,900 near Anchorage, AK via craigslist.  Tip from Zach.

Aristobarge: 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280SE W108

Think about what you can buy for $20k these days: a base-model sedan like a Dodge Dart or Ford Focus, a decently nice high-content econobox like the Honda Fit, or the chunk of pure Stuttgart Bracq bossitude that is the W108 sedan. Granted, most W108s trade for far less than $20k, so for that price you should hold out for a real gem. Like this one.
