Save The Rotary Wagons: 1976 Mazda RX-4 Wagon

I'm posting this next car for all of the wrong reasons.  It isn't really a good deal.  It will cost the next owner more money than it will ever be worth.  And it will probably cause more heartache than a teenager on methamphetamine...but this car needs to be saved.  I guess this is a charity case.  This is a car that needs someone with more money than sense to keep it from going to the boneyard, because how many RX-4 wagons are left in this world? How many more manual gearbox Japanese wagons with rotary engines exist? Screw the whales, save this manual gearbox equipped rotary powered wagon. Find this 1976 Mazda RX4 Wagon offered for $3,500 in Tracy, CA via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.

Resale Rossa: 1976 Alfa Romeo Alfetta GT

In the early 1900's before the days of mega sponsorships from international corporations, competitors worked from a standardized a list of racing colors that denoted the nation of the competing car.  Italy adopted it's famous Red or Rosso, after a red Italia won the 1907 Paris to Peking race.  Ever since, owners of used Italian cars have been repainting their cars red hoping for a quick sale - like our next car that left Arese in Rosso Amaranto (burgundy), and ended up a faded tomato.  Find this 1976 Alfa Romeo Alfetta GT for sale in Orange County, CA for $4,000 via craigslist.

A Ford By Any Other Name: 1974 Mercury Capri

Prices for the Mercury/Ford Capri have been historically low for a number of reasons. First was Fords inexplicable placement of the Capri at Mercury dealers when it was a Ford in Europe and sold well as a Ford over there...but in 1974 it was objectively a wayyyy better Mustang than the Mustang II and somebody in the Ford product planning group managed to get the Capri festooned with a Mercury badge.  The years since haven't been any nicer, because car guys have prefered to drive Opel Mantas and Nissan Z cars...but if you open your heart (and eyes) you might find that the little Capri has something unique to offer. Find this 1974 Mercury Capri offered for $4995 in Mason, TX via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.

Rusty Beasty: 1965 Chevrolet Corvair V8

I love the randomness of the DT tips inbox.  One day it could be filled with minty clean all original Hondas from the 1960s and the very next day we get nothing but rusty piles of V8 swapped American iron...which is what we've got today. Find this 1965 Chevrolet Corvair V8 offered for $1,750 in Garden Grove, CA via craigslist. Tip from Rock On!

Ol' Betsy: 1954 Chevrolet Pickup

Nobody respects a perfection condition shop truck.  If it doesn't have some dings and dents in the bed, then you aren't using the truck as it should be.  Perhaps this next pile of rust might be a bit too far gone for daily driving, but you could certainly justify the exposure to tetanus for a weekend Lowes Despot hauler.  Find this 1954 Chevrolet Pickup offered for $6,500 here on eBay buy-it-now or make-offer located in Sacramento, CA with 2 days to go.

Fifty Bells: Two 1964 Isuzu Bellel Diesels

The 1961-71 Isuzu Bellel was a first for a few reasons -- first, it was the first Japanese produced passenger car with an available diesel engine, but it was also the first independently designed car from Isuzu. The name Bellel was chosen as short for bell plus roman number for 50 (L)...which is what Isuzu means in Japanese (fifty bells). Find these 1964 Isuzu Bellel Diesels here on eBay offered for $1,100 buy-it-now or make-offer located in Oracle, AZ with 3 days to go.

"I got a beat leather jacket,

If I can make it that far,

‘Cause everything I own is a broken down piece of junk

Ooo, la, la, la – Ooo, la, la, la" *

Sacrifice: 1967 Lancia Flavia Coupe

It's sad to see what was once a cool, interesting and significant car become a donor.  The Lancia Flavia, like all pre-FIAT Lancias, was an engineer's car, designed and built without regards to price, and Lancia lost money on every one sold.  To me, this car looks too far gone to be restored, and being parting out is its future. A sad fate for a car designed by a Professor of Mechanical Engineering. Find this 1967 Lancia Flavia for sale on eBay in Book Park, OH for a classified ad price of $6,950.

One Foot In The Crusher: 1972 Datsun 240Z

The advertisement starts out in the right direction --  6cyl, 4speed stick, -- but things only turn south as the listing continues -- needs to be towed, runs and drives good but carbs need adjusted, rebuilt or replaced runs great then runs rich. At least the body doesn't look to be a total nightmare...but it is hard to tell with rattle can black paint job.  Find this 1972 Datsun 240Z offered for $2,900 in Graham, WA via craigslist.  Tip from FuelTruck.

Ol' Blue Eye-talian: 1973 Fiat 124 Spider

There has been a bit of hype lately about the new Fiat 124 Spider, so I thought it was appropriate to revisit the original.  In case you are a hermit living in a cave, the new 124 Spider is Miata under the skin, built on the line in Ujina Plan No. 1 in Hiroshima, next to the Miata.  The original Spider was designed by an American and built by Pininfarina in San Giorgio Canavese.  No shipping engines across the world here...  Find this 1973 Fiat 124 Spider for sale in Clinton, WA for $1,400 via craigslist.

Needs Restoration: 1963 Lancia Flavia PF

The Lancia Flavia (Tipo 815/819/820) was build in Italy from 1961 through 1971, although production continued through 1975 with the name Lancia 2000.  Today's example is the breathtaking Pininfarina designed coupe offered for a bargain price because it needs some attention. Find this 1963 Lancia Flavia PF here on eBay offered for $8,500 buy-it-now or make-offer, located in Wylie, TX with 15 days to go.

Some Welding Required: 1972 DeTomaso Pantera

I really want to love this next car because the DeTomaso Pantera is one of my dream cars and this one is cheap...but it might be more of a nightmare before it is done...just take a close look at some of the photos and judge for yourself.  Find this 1972 DeTomaso Pantera offered for $25,000 in Ft Myers, FL via craigslist. Tip from Dascpcu.

Rust In Pieces: 1973 Datsun 240Z

As a typical spoiled California used car shopper, I abhor rust.  The slightest hint of oxidized metal will send me running for a mojito and my surfboard. But the reality of life is that we still get some rust around here in these parts, particularly if you just let paint flake off the drive around in a car with bare exposed metal.  Like this 1973 Datsun 240Z offered for $2,500 in Merced, CA via craigslist.  Tip from FuelTruck.
