Thursday Twister: Trouble Makers

Today's Thursday Twister comes from Erik202 who writes: I had an idea for a Thursday Twister, maybe this one has already been done but i was wondering what the most fantastically unreliable car you can get in the DT price range is. Or maybe the most unreliable car you've owned, IDK, basically the opposite of discussing volvos and roadmasters and cars that will give you half a million miles without trouble...

Thursday Twister: Class of 1993

With the dropping of the New Years Ball in Times Square on January 1, the roll over of the yearly odometer brings a fresh crop of 25 year old crocks legal for import into the Land of the Free.  NHTSA's 25 year rule makes anything from class of 1993 eligible for E-Z importation into the U.S.

For this week's twister, what 1993 would you guys bring in?

Thursday Twister: The Best Way To Spend A Weekend

For this week's Thursday Twister, I'm going to share this link of a charity auction here on eBay (bidding for $530 with 1 day to go) for a 2-day drifting class with 1 night RV camping (for 2 guests) and ask -- what is the best way to spend a weekend for a car lover?

Thursday Twister: Most Overpriced Car On Ebay

I get it.  Really.  Porsche 911s are awesome.  Coolest car ever.  But the prices these things have been reaching is getting out of control.  Here is a great example, it is a 1977 Porsche 934 race car offered here on eBay for $9,550 buy-it-now...which is crazy because it is beat up and used...and hang...on...you want $10k for just the front right fender?

Thursday Twister: Best Custom Show Car

In the past few weeks I've been to SEMA and to the LA Auto Show (more on that in a later post) and it got me thinking about show cars for this week's Thursday Twister...the quiz with a twist.  Find the best ex-SEMA (or other Hot-Rod) show car for sale on the interwebs.  Be prepared to defend your choice.

Thursday Twister: $1k Solid Gold

Today for the Thursday Twister, I'd like to ask you people what you think is the best car for around 1000 smackeroos.  I will kick things off with two cars from tipper Sean.

Thursday Twister: Buy A Car

For this week's Thursday Twister, I'd like to ask for your opinion on a subject.  What is the best way to find a good deal on a used car that ISN'T via the internet.  If you can't use craigslist or eBay -- how do you find a used car?

Thursday Twister: Almost New E30

What is the deal with the prices people want for ALMOST new classics.  Are they worth it?  Would you pay almost one hundred large for a 1985 BMW 323i found here on zee German ebay bidding for $69,900 EUR ($82667 USD) with only 260 kms on the odometer?  For that kinda coin you could get the nicely equipped BMW M4 --which would depreciate...but only if you drove it -- which the same can be said for the '85 E30 323i.  Hmmm...this is a conundrum wrapped in an enigma interwoven with a quandary.

Thursday Twister: Drugs Are Bad Mmmkay

Today's Thursday Twister quiz was inspired by a comment from tipper Rock On who sent in the next car with the following critique: The opioid crisis is much larger than I anticipated!  Find this 1969 Volkswagen Custom Hot Rod offered for $12,000 in Grand View, ID via craigslist.

Thursday Twister: Engine Swap

For this week's Thursday Twister, I'm going to go to one of my favorite subjects -- swaps...no, not wife swaps, that is just plain nasty, ENGINE SWAPS!  Help find the best swapped beasts around.

Thursday Twister: Less Than The Cost of Resto

This week's Thursday Twister came from a tip from Terry B who writes: You could not restore this car for the asking price........if this is what you want???  And I like it.  I like any car where the cost of restoration is far less than the asking price, like on this 1965 Volvo PV544 offered for $9,600 near Sacramento, CA.

Thursday Twister: Hurricane

You'd have to be living under a rock to not know about the recent hurricanes that have devastated parts of Texas and Florida, and the flooding has been particularly hard on homes, businesses and cars. You might be able to replace the drywall in your home before the studs become covered in black mold, but according to Forbes the flooding from Irma and Harvey destroyed over a million cars & trucks.  What does that mean?  It means that junk yards are going to be bursting with molding cars -- and locals in Texas will note that the Texas Motor Speedway is being used to store the overflow of cars looking for someone who will part them out or ship them to Yemen with sketchy title status.

Thursday Twister: Bolt on Flare

Today's Thursday Twister comes as a suggestion from DT reader Erik202 who writes:

I had an idea for a coffee brake discussion: Bolt On Flares.  These things seem to be a hot item lately and while i dig them on some cars ( say a nissan/datsun 240z with 14x10 RS Watanabes) they are showing up on everything and are being taken to extremes by outfits like Rocket Bunny, Libertey Walk and RWB. For me the novelty is wearing off and i find myself, especially in the case of RWB, appreciating (important note NOT AFFORDING) skinny 911s more than ever. In fact my city just had it's first RWB build and seeing the social media posts of Akira Nakai cutting into the sheet metal of an otherwise pristine air-cooled Porsche irked me in a way it never had. I guess my question is this; Are these things going to go the way of custom velour interiors, wild paint graphics, neon under body lights, fast and furious body kits and gigantic wings or are they going to start showing up as OEM equipment (maybe they are already....IDK)

Thursday Twister: No Cameras Please

For this week's Thursday Twister,  we are going to dive headfirst into the dangerous world of craigslist listings.  I am a dare devil and I'll gladly shove a q-tip into my ear canal for fun, but the one thing I've never done is visit a car where the seller didn't post photos.  In this day and age of cameras on disposable napkins, there is no excuse to not have photos in your advertisement...but sometimes the bird willing to take a risk gets the worm.  Just don't get eaten.

Thursday Twister: Sasquatch

It is Thursday the Thirteenth, so let's keep the scary stuff going with this next Thursday Twister feature.  The  Thursday Twister (TM) is a quiz with a twist, and today the twist is you need to pick your favorite car from this list of wrecks.

Thursday Twister: Best Volvo For Electrocution

If you search the news from the last day or two, you may have read that Volvo is going all-electric for the 2019 model year...and despite what the Negative Nancys at Forbes have to say about it or what the dumbasses at NBC claim (they've never heard to Tesla, Faraday Future, Fisker, GOVECs, ZAP, Enfield Auto, Bachelle...I could go on forever) Volvo is positioning itself for the electric future.  But I am an old fashioned lover of simple things that I can fix in my garage and hybrid powertrains are as scary as Marylin Manson's finger puppet collection -- I REALLY DON'T WANT A HYBRID late model Volvo.  Sorry, but if I'm going to drive an electric car from those wacky Swedes, it will be something electrified from the past...so for today's Thursday Twister, I'm going to ask you -- what is the best Volvo to turn electric.

Thursday Twister: Given Up

Welcome to the  Thursday Twister, -- our weekly session of crossfit for the mind. Today I want to ask the question -- what car announces to the world that you have given up?

Thursday Twister: What Were They Thinking?!

Welcome to the  Thursday Twister, -- the weekly journey to the center of the earth and back again.  This week I want to talk about cars that make you say: Whhhaatt...were they thinking?  I'm not talking about custom 8-wheeled monsters built with mig welders and methamphetamines, but factory cars built with gantt charts and market surveys -- yes, we are talking about factory built mistakes.

Thursday Twister: Cars & Coffee

Welcome to the  Thursday Twister, -- the weekly pic-a-car post where we try and twist things up a bit and find some oddball stuff.  Today I want you to help us find the best cars for taking to a Cars & Coffee event -- and not just some Thursday night Boise Walmart meet up, but something legit like the Orange County Cars & Coffee show (that was defunct last I heard about it.)

Thursday Twister: Scissors

Today's Thursday Twister idea came from commenter NoCo FoMoPar who posted in the Meyers Manx SR2 feature -- Is this a gullwing door or a scissor door? In any case, challenge to the group is to find a cheaper way to get a vehicle with this type of door design. Go....
