Thursday Twister: $1k Solid Gold

Today for the Thursday Twister, I'd like to ask you people what you think is the best car for around 1000 smackeroos.  I will kick things off with two cars from tipper Sean.

First up is this 1982 BMW 320i offered for $700 in Ojai, CA via craigslist.  It has a 5-speed gearbox and no key, but it does crack over...I am so confused.

 Next is this 1978 Ford Pinto offered for $1100 in Ojai, CA via craigslist.  The interior looks like it was used as a nest by a litter of baby porcupines, but the outside looks okay. 

Find me a better $1k car.  Comments below.

    For $700 I'd give that E21 a chance. This would be the punch list:
    -Check fuel pump function
    -Clean out tank or attempt starting on external fuel source with a makeshift pump setup
    -Check K-jet fuel pressures, test warm-up regulator and fuel distributor function
    -Hotwire to start, but source a used ignition switch w/ key or get the right key code cut into a blank
    -Check for spark
    -Get it running, drive around and listen/smell for whatever else is wrong with it
    -Compression check
    -Brake check (during test drive)
    -Cut springs
    -Tuck bumpers
    ...?
    -Profit

      How about a master of roads. She looks pretty tired, but it does have the towing package and a region specific Sven and Ole's bumper sticker

      Shame that roadie isn't a 94...from 94-96 they had the LT1, a huge upgrade over the previous L05 350V8.

      @jeffzekas - Can I get a bit more detail from you on this topic? I've been looking in slo-mo for an E32 with a stick. Well, it's slo-mo because there just are not very many here, or their owners aren't letting them go. Maybe I'm barking up a tree I shouldn't be, although it's probably keeping me from buying an old Citroen. Frying pan >> fryer. Additional perspective is appreciated. Thx in advance.
