Bring Any Offer - 1966 Volvo 122S

Surely there is someone here who has an old Volvo and just wants a different one. Well, now there are two of you. Have a gander at this Amazon that the seller is keen to trade for just another old Volvo. If you don't have any derelict Swedish iron laying around, I guess you could max out your daily limit at the ATM and head over for a cash offer.  Find this 1966 Volvo 122S for sale in Charleston, SC for pretty much whatever you feel like giving. 


The car looks a little rough around the edges but in a way that 122's wear so well. The exterior has that calming desert tan paint that seems to still be wearing well aside from a few spots where it has moved on to something else. The biggest concern here is that the car allegedly needs floorboards, but really, the first thing we do when we buy new cars is to pull the carpet and pressure wash it, so you're already half way there, right?


The seller/trader also claims that the car needs an alignment, which, as long as the control arm hasn't rusted off the frame, should be 30 minutes of rolling around on your back with an adjustable wrench and a tape measure. Unfortunately, the car is an automatic which usually results in demerit points around here. Volvo folks - what are you thoughts? Should the auto stay or go?


Interior-wise, things don't look to bad aside from some stitching that's coming apart. Nothing a Mexican blanket couldn't fix. The rear seat and headliner look to be in mostly excellent condition. Given the round rubber marks on the rear seat, someone has possibly hauled or stored some tires around in the back but we certainly hold no judgement against that.

    Negatives with this guy for me are:

    the auto trans takes away some of the fun. They aren’t terrible. Too much work to change the tunnel and mounts for a manual.

    The need for an alignment might mean there are other issues. Some suspension parts for these are getting scarce.

    New floors are work, but are available and not to tough to do on these.

    No pictures or info of the motor.

    Positives:
    Nice price with lots of parts. This color combination is one of my favorites. Easy cars to work on. Even with the auto these are entertaining. Seats look as though a shop could stitch them up. Great choice for someone starting out.
