Broken Down Piece of Junk: 1958 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint

 Find this 1958 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint for sale on eBay at the Beverly Hills Car Club in East LA, CA for $8,950.

The Guilietta was where Alfa's decision to go from a ulta high end maker of sporting cars before the Second World War to a maker of mass-produced sporting cars that could be afforded by many took off.  The Sprint was the two door variant of the Guiletta designed by the house of Bertone and engineered by Alfa's chief engineer Orazio Satta Puliga.  The Guiletta was powered by Alfa's all-aluminum twin cam 4, displacing 1300cc in this form.  This engine would go on to increase in displacement until ending production as a 2 liter in the mid-1990's.  This car has twin Webers on it, which would indicate that it might be the hotter Veloce model, but without the serial number, it's hard to confirm.  I'm amazed that the engine hasn't fallen out of this car.

The ad optimistically states that this car is a "great candidate for a full restoration".  No doubt it will cause you to spend every last buck to patch the numerous holes in the monocoque body.


Frankly, I'm amazed that this car doesn't just fold in half.  I guess it is a testament to the strength of the Giulietta's roof.  Prices are moderately on the upswing for Alfa's (as they are in general for classics), but I'm not sure even with your free labor, how it wouldn't be a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, restoring this car.

    For this car to truly be a great candidate, it should come with its own Super-PAC.

    BTW, nice "Voyage to the bottom of the sea" reference. That took me back to Saturday afternoons, when I was eleven.
