Schneewittchensarg: 1973 Volvo 1800ES

The Volvo 1800ES was a shooting brake version of Volvo's aging P1800/1800S/1800E platform, meant to breath new life in the old parts.  The frameless glass tailgate equipped version only sold 8,000 units for the '72 & '73 model years, but the prices don't really reflect that level of exclusivity...yet.  As long as the Coronapocalypse doesn't cause wholesale classic car values to plunge, this thing should be on its way up. Find this 1973 Volvo 1800ES offered for $13,750 in Morgan Hill, CA via craigslist.

Racing Up In Class: 1972 Volvo 1800ES

I have the good fortune of working and living near a few good vintage Volvo mechanics, so I get to see the occasional 1800/P1800 cruising around on the road, but the average driver sees one or two in his lifetime and probably thinks they are an Austin Healey, Aston Martin, or maybe even a Ferrari.  So if you are looking for an inexpensive and interesting car that'll have people scratching your head and you don't like the Triumph GT6, this is the next best bet. Find this 1972 Volvo 1800ES offered for $9,700 CAD ($7373 USD) in Royston, BC via kijiji.net. Tip from Erik202.

Yurts When I Laugh: 1972 Volvo P1800ES

Nothing says "you've made it" like living in a yurt and driving a rusty old Volvo...wait a minute...that's not right. Nothing says "you've made it two more days without officially being declared homeless" like living in a yurt and driving a rusty Volvo, but I really like this next car and I could imagine living in a yurt if given the chance. Find this 1972 Volvo P1800ES offered for $4900 in Pescadero, CA via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.

Green With Envy: 1972 Volvo 1800ES

Do you want a car that will put a smile on the face of everybody -- get an old Volkswagen -- Beetle, Van, SomethingBack -- it doesn't matter, people really like 'em.  But they always know what they are looking at, so they'll say hi, but never ask "what is it?" If you want the "what is it" experience, you'll need to dig deep into the abyss of weird cars and get this 1972 Volvo 1800ES offered for $12000 in San Francisco, CA via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.

$6500 is the new $500: 1972 Volvo 1800ES

If any car-finding site has helped to drive up the values of Volvo's 1800ES shooting brake...then it's probably not us, but we were guilty of over-featuring the little mini wagon during our first few years on the web. For a long time these were affordable, incredibly stylish, and durable classics that could be used daily and make you look cooler than you really are. All of that is still true, except for the affordability part. Imagine our surprise when we found this 1972 Volvo 1800ES for sale in Las Vegas, NV for $6,500 via craigslist.

SCCA Solo2 Class Winner: 1972 Volvo 1800ES

I love a car that comes with a story.  Or a log book.  Or any vintage pictures from when it was in its prime...and this next car comes with an SCCA log book, and pics from when it was Solo2 champion in EP class.  Yeah.  The conversation with the owner when you pick this beast up will be worth the price of admission.  Find this 1972 Volvo 1800ES here on eBay bidding for $560 with 3 days to go, located in Jacksonville, FL.

Shooting Brake: 1973 Volvo 1800 ES

The 1800ES is a somewhat rare version of Volvo's 1800 model, only sold in 1972 & '73 model years as a way to extend the life of the long-in-the-tooth 1800 coupe. The funky looks can be polarizing - the Germans call this model Schneewittchensarg, which translates literally to "Snow White's coffin," but expect attention everywhere you go in one of these.  Find this 1973 Volvo 1800 ES offered for $5500 near Seattle, WA. Tip from Zach.

Seller Submission: 1973 Volvo 1800ES

The first time we featured a white Volvo 1800ES, it was way back in 2012 with a feature written by CFlo that was designated as the first Thorsday. A funny thing happened to the car since it was featured here -- it was purchased by a DT reader, had its interior swapped to red, received new paint (after rust repair), Cibie Oscar fog lights, and a whole pile of other new parts. Find this 1973 Volvo 1800ES offered for $16,000 or best offer in Wellington, FL via craigslist.  Seller submission from Doctordel.

Clown Sko: 1973 Volvo 1800ES

The clownshoe shaped Volvo 1800ES isn't going to have its own dedicated room at the Petersen Automotive Museum, but it won't cost an arm/leg or need a team of specialists to start it up when you want to go for a ride.  That sounds like the perfect car for your garage, because who wants to own a museum piece anyway? Find this 1973 Volvo 1800ES offered here on eBay bidding for $6,750 with 4 days to go, located in Boeme, TX.

Fiskbilen: 1973 Volvo 1800ES

The Volvo 1800ES was a shooting brake (2-door wagon) version of Volvo's aging 1800 platform.  It was launched in the 1973 model year and 8,000 units were shipped before 1800 went out of production in 1974.  Today's example is a nice looking yellow example of the Fiskbilen (Swedish for fish van) offered for a reasonable price. Find this 1973 Volvo 1800ES offered for $16,500 in Mission Hills, CA via craigslist.  Seller submission from Tamas.

Shooting Brake Bargain: 1972 Volvo 1800ES

The Volvo 1800ES is the quintessential Daily Turismo classic. We've featured at least 40 of them in the past 3.5 years; on average about 1 per month. There are myriad reasons for this: a) we like Volvos (well, at least I do, and I know Hunsbloger does) - they are ultra durable and easy to turn into fun drivers, 2) the 1800ES is a freakin' sexy shooting brake, and D) these aren't quite into overpriced rich-boy investment car territory yet, but they are on the rise. And when you come across a running daily driver ES for less than $6k these days, you jump on it. Find this 1972 Volvo 1800ES for sale in Oakland, CA for $5,500 via craigslist.

Rusty Volvo Faceoff: Flintstones Amazon vs Rockin 1800ES

Time for a game of "pick your poison", where we show you two beaten to death piles patina'd classics and you pick which one you'd own.  Of course, we'll kick off today's featurette with a couple of Volvos, because that's the way I roll.  Take your pick between this 1973 Volvo "rockin rocker panels" 1800ES found here on eBay for $3,000 buy-it-now or this 1967 Volvo 122S "Flintstones" Amazon here on eBay offered for $4,500 buy-it-now.

5k: Shooting Star: 1973 Volvo 1800ES

The Volvo 1800ES was a shooting brake version of Volvo's aging P1800/1800S/1800E platform, meant to breath new life in the old parts.  The frameless glass tailgate equipped version only sold 8,000 units for the '72 & '73 model years, but the prices don't really reflect that level of exclusivity...yet.  Wait too long and you might find the cheap 1800ES is thing of the past like the dodo bird, cheap 911, and Lindsey Lohan's probation...and we'll have to move on to beating another dead horse.  In the meantime, giddyap <whack>.  Find this 1973 Volvo 1800ES offered for $4,500 in Vancouver, Washington (not Canada) via craigslist.

5k: DT Exclusive: 1971 Volvo 1800ES

This next DT exclusive feature is a seller submission from DT regular Rene C who is offering his 1971 Volvo 1800ES (located in Grosse Ile, MI (Southern suburb of Detroit)) for a fantastic price that needs a few weekends to become your dream schneewittchensarg. Buy it here before it gets picked up by those Wheeler Dealer boys, covered in hideous vinyl wrap, and sold for a healthy profit.  More info directly from Rene:

Hello to the Daily Turismo collective,  Today I have made an executive decision to sell my 1973 Volvo 1800ES.  The CEO (wife) has rubber stamped my next automotive life direction. The price is $4500. I believe it is a SUPER deal compared to what I have seen in the market place.

5k: Idus Martiae: 1973 Volvo 1800 ES Project

Happy Sunday to all readers out there, hope your Ides of March is going well. Your local high priest should be preparing to sacrifice a sheep to Jupiter at midday, but in the meantime you can celebrate the assassination of the ancient Roman version of Hitler (Mr. Gaius Julius Caesar) by checking out this 1973 Volvo 1800 ES Project offered here on eBay bidding for $325 reserve-not-met with $4,500 buy-it-now, located in San Antonio, TX.  Tip from Rene C.

10k: Schneewittchensarg: 1972 Volvo 1800ES

The Volvo 1800ES is the limited edition shooting brake version of the Volvo 1800 that was sold in the 1972 and 1973 models years as a way to extend the life of the long-in-the-tooth 1800 coupe (first offered in 1962 as the P1800).  The goofy looks can be polarizing - the Germans call this model Schneewittchensarg, which translates literally to "Snow White's coffin."  Find this 1972 Volvo 1800ES offered for $8,500 in Santa Rosa, CA via craigslist.
