100 Pony's Per Hole: 2015 Ford Mustang EcoBoost

The 6th generation of the Ford Mustang was released for the 2015 model year with a new aggressive body style (it looks so much wider than the previous gen, but it was only 1.5 inches wider and 1.4 inches lower) and an independent rear end for the first time for the original pony car.  Ford also re-introduced a turbo 4-cylinder version known as the EcoBoost...but it is about as Eco as a Porsche Taycan is turbo...but the little 2.3 liter 4-cylinder engine in the Mustang was rated at 310 horsepower and can be tuned up to 400 horsepower (such as the car in this example).  Find this 2015 Ford Mustang EcoBoost offered for $13,900 in Vail, AZ via craigslist.

6 Speed Manual Equipped: 2014 Ford Fusion SE EcoBoost

The Ford Fusion was introduced for the 2006 model year as a replacement for Ford's aging mid sized Taurus platform.  The Taurus name did survive on something that was called the Ford Five Hundred and the Taurus over various years...but the Fusion was the mid sized sedan offering that was surprisingly offered with a 6-speed manual box for a few years, including this next one that is powered by the 1.6 liter EcoBoost 4-banger. Find this 2014 Ford Fusion SE EcoBoost offered for $6,500 in Danbury, CT via craigslist. Tip from Cory.

Eco Donor: 2014 Ford Fiesta 1.0 Ecoboost

One of the more curious drivetrains to be be introduced in recent years came from Ford in 2014.  The 1.0 Ecoboost three cylinder engine has won International engine of the year for the last three years. The engine makes 123 horsepower and was only paired with a 5 speed manual gear box in the Fiesta.  Most engine swaps found on DT are of the V8 variety, but this car presents an interesting opportunity for chump change.  Find this 2014 Ford Fiesta 1.0 ecoboost salvage car for sale in Walden, NY for $600 via craigslist.

2015 Ford Focus EcoBoost 1.0

The visceral experiences of driving are slowly being taken away from us sense by sense. In economy cars, we’re faced with a pretty flaccid selection of 1.6 to 2.4 liter four cylinder powerplants that have had all of their idiosyncrasies and power peaks normalized out. Ford, though not immune to offering boring engine options, at least provides the possibility of getting a boosted one liter triple in the Fiesta and Focus. Sounding like a turbocharged vintage triple bike when some resonating equipment is removed, the 1.0 is pretty rorty when opened up. Having driven one as a rental in Germany, I can say that the noise from in the cabin and the slight added vibration of the three makes driving the car a hoot. Row your own gears in this 2015 Ford Focus 1.0L EcoBoost 6 speed on craigslist in Sharon, CT for $13,000. This post is part of DT's 2016 Birthday Celebration of 100 cars; enjoy the ride!

15k: Factory Sleeper: 2010 Ford Flex Limited EcoBoost

Just how do you describe a Ford Flex with EcoBoost?  You could call it a Texas sized Scion xB, a station wagon on steroids, a meat head's minivan, or a small airport shuttle...but I'd simply describe it as fast.  Faster than it should be and fast enough to whoop on some cars that can't seat 6 adults comfortably.  The 0-60 mph spec of 5.8 seconds isn't shabby, but where the Flex EcoBoost comes alive is the 30-50mph freeway merging lunge that only takes 2.8 seconds.  This means your Flex is faster than a 2014 GT Mustang 5.0 or Camaro SS and on par with a 2013 Porsche Boxster S.  Find this 2010 Ford Flex Limited EcoBoost here on eBay currently bidding for $16,500 reserve-not-met with 5 days to go, located in Roan Mountain, TN.
