Today is October 14th, which is Columbus Day..and Canadian Thanksgiving...sorry...so this next feature came across the Ocean blue and now lives in the land of wheat and beef.  The Mark 1 (that's fancy pants speak for first generation) Ford Fiesta was designed by Ford of Europe and built in an assembly plant in Cologne, Germany for worldwide consumption.  The Fiesta was only sold in the USA for a few years (1978-1980) before it was replaced by the North American built Escort, an unfortunate turn of events for economy car drivers because the German built Fiesta was a cool piece of kit while the American built Escort was an unforgettable pile of guano. Old School Party: 1980 Ford Fiesta

Ford has never had much of a reputation for building small cars in the USA.  The first generation euro import Fiesta was only sold over here from 1978-1981.  These cars were wildly popular in Europe and seem to be a far superior drivers car than the Escort that followed it.  Today's Fiesta seller has one of the most honest opening lines I have seen in a CL ad when he says, "Due to life kicking us in the balls, I have to sell my beloved project car."  Find this 1980 Ford Fiesta for sale in Rollinsford, NH for $2,900 via craigslist.

Eco Donor: 2014 Ford Fiesta 1.0 Ecoboost

One of the more curious drivetrains to be be introduced in recent years came from Ford in 2014.  The 1.0 Ecoboost three cylinder engine has won International engine of the year for the last three years. DT Does WRC: Rally Mexico Trip Report

Early in March 2016 I had the opportunity to travel down to Léon, Guanajuato - a 440 year old Mexican city full of 1.6 million people - for the only North American round of the World Rally Championship. WRC Rally México, as it's officially known, is the first gravel round and the 3rd rally in the WRC season and has been for the past 13 years. I was there for my day job as engineering support for a spec powertrain component to all WRC teams, but wouldn't miss out on reporting the experience via DT - sit back, crack open a Negra Modelo, and enjoy - arriba!

LAAS: Ken Block hoons to introduce new Ford Fiesta
