Farewell to the DTPC, our 1983 Volvo 242 DL

Those of you who have been following my posts on the Daily Turismo Project Car probably saw this coming, but the 242 is now happily living with a new owner and has been since October. Friend, regular DT reader, mechanical (rocket) engineer and Swedish-American certifiable Volvo nut Alex B. expressed interest in the car when he saw it for the first time. I wasn't quite ready to sell - being in the middle of fixing a sticky right front brake caliper - but Alex needed a car, and it worked out for all parties involved.

Feature Followup: Most Interesting Man's 1973 Porsche 914 On Way To Finland

In late June we featured a 1973 Porsche 914 being sold by Doug Malewicki, aerospace engineer gone rogue inventor, biker and all around nice guy.  The 914 sold for $6,700 to a buyer in Finland and as luck would have it, Doug wasn't far from DT HQ.  Doug kindly offered to buy us lunch on the way to dropping his 914 off at the shipper.  Doug picked up the tab (although he did bring a selection of coupons...hey, free lunch is free lunch, we aren't complaining!) and he shared with us a memorable lunch and an interesting graph of the auction results.

DT Success: Monday's Roadkill Volvo 1800ES Has a New Home!

Well that was quick.  The Volvo 1800ES featured exclusively online via the Daily Turismo yesterday was snapped up by one of our readers within hours of posting.  We recieved a short note from the seller: 

I was the owner of this vehicle featured in the last few days. It has been sold thanks to you guys. Thanks for your efforts. -Bill

DT Success: 1980 Honda City Turbo purchased by Randy C atCarchaeology.com

We received an update via our facebook page yesterday giving us some fantastic news.  The Honda City Turbo II we featured on Dec 3rd was picked up by a DT reader Randy C.  In all truthfulness, we almost didn't feature that City Turbo II and just clicked buy-it-now to purchase sight unseen because it will be a long time before we see another one on ebay complete with Motocompo scooter for a reasonable price.  Randy pulled the trigger when he saw the feature and did a fantastic write up of his adventure to buy the HCTII on his carchaeology.com website.  (We are featuring a few excerpts here with his permission.)  Congrats Randy on the new ride and we want a ride when you take a trip to the beach!

Thorsday Success Followup: 67 Volvo 122

We mentioned a few days back that the 67 Volvo 122 Amazon coupe was purchased by Daily Turismo reader Clark, but today we received a short novel from Clark about his return trip home with his new friend.  The following are his words and photos about his return trip home with "Helga" :

First off, let’s get this straight:  I don’t name my cars.  I don’t assign them genders.  This being the case, what I call “the Volvo” was named Helga by the original owner.  The second and third owners continued to call her Helga.  45 years later, it would seem inappropriate, maybe even bad juju, to not continue the tradition.  So, although we here in Austin will probably refer to her as “the Volvo,” following is the promised update on Helga’s relocation to Texas.

Thorsday Success, 1800ES Arrives in Florida

We are happy to report that the 1800ES wagon we featured on Volvo Thorsday #1 has arrived at the home of DT reader and new owner, doctordel. He is already enjoying the car and has his eye on a few options for more power. We wish him the best with his new pride & joy! His words below...

Two days before Thorsday we posted an ad for a nice looking '67 Amazon coupe -- and DT reader/commenter Clark picked it up for what we think was a great price.

His words: "I also thought it would go a bit higher. That it SHOULD go a bit higher. With a minute or so left in the auction I threw out my first bid to bump up the price to where I thought it should be, and wouldn't you know - I just bought myself a Volvo!  I'd been watching the bidding from the beginning without bidding. With about 20 minutes left my wife, bless her heart, said, "You should bid on it!" This one will replace the '63 122 beater I had to sell years ago. I'm looking forward to picking her up and perambulating back to Austin, Texas."

We wish Clark the best of luck with his new purchase and look forward to hearing stories of Helga's journeys and demand regular youtube videos of Clark singing the "Old Volvo Song".
