Feature Followup: Most Interesting Man's 1973 Porsche 914 On Way To Finland

In late June we featured a 1973 Porsche 914 being sold by Doug Malewicki, aerospace engineer gone rogue inventor, biker and all around nice guy.  The 914 sold for $6,700 to a buyer in Finland and as luck would have it, Doug wasn't far from DT HQ.  Doug kindly offered to buy us lunch on the way to dropping his 914 off at the shipper.  Doug picked up the tab (although he did bring a selection of coupons...hey, free lunch is free lunch, we aren't complaining!) and he shared with us a memorable lunch and an interesting graph of the auction results.

Rags To Riches Followup: The W108 Has Landed

A few weeks ago we received an email from the buyer of the Rags To Riches W108 280SE 4.5 (the story was also syndicated on the front page of Jalopnik.com via DT's kinja page and achieved about 5,000 pageviews) and Shawn M reports that the Benz has arrived, in his words:

Of course. As would have it the 280 needs a few things. It has had a power steering leak repair, tune up and undercoating, $ TBD, and I have driven half of an $85. tank of gas.  The radio that didn't quite work right will be sent to NJ for a refurbish $150-200, the odometer and clock need to be replaced $300, and I got new front door sills $100. Lastly touch up paint and prep $50.  I think I'm up to $13,000. :) with insurance, tax, and delivery. Still cheaper than a used MDX.

Maki Some Noise: Follow-up on a Unique and Rare Breed

We get some good email to the Daily Turismo tips account (I'm talking about the random folks asking in ALL CAPS "DEAR DAILYTUORIGMO - HOW DO I BUY YOUR MERCEDES, IS IT STILL FOR SALE, HOW MUCH IS MINIMUM YOU TAKE?") and then we get some excellent email...such as an email from Mr FixItKirk.  FixItKirk was responding to an article published some time ago about a little known and obscure amphibious car called the Maki.  At the time of publishing we didn't know squat about the Maki, in fact we simply said "this latest car has us in a bit of an information black hole" and then proceeded to ridicule the seller's poor grammar...etc etc..its the basic DT formula - why do I feel the need to keep repeating myself...wait, don't click BLOCK SITE FOREVER on your firewall just yet...keep reading..

Thorsday Success Followup: 67 Volvo 122

We mentioned a few days back that the 67 Volvo 122 Amazon coupe was purchased by Daily Turismo reader Clark, but today we received a short novel from Clark about his return trip home with his new friend.  The following are his words and photos about his return trip home with "Helga" :

First off, let’s get this straight:  I don’t name my cars.  I don’t assign them genders.  This being the case, what I call “the Volvo” was named Helga by the original owner.  The second and third owners continued to call her Helga.  45 years later, it would seem inappropriate, maybe even bad juju, to not continue the tradition.  So, although we here in Austin will probably refer to her as “the Volvo,” following is the promised update on Helga’s relocation to Texas.

Thorsday Success, 1800ES Arrives in Florida
