Ambitious Amphibious: 1992 Dutton Mariner

We posted a Dutton the other day...but it was from the early days when Dutton built kit cars and before it was sued by Ford for using the Sierra name...and this next car dates from a time when Dutton stopped making street cars (after a run of almost 8000 kit cars...not bad for a botique manufacturer out of Sussex) and turned to amphibious car production for a few years before ending that too.  We don't typically exceed DT's self imposed $20k limit on price...but this machine is extraordinary enough to warrant a feature. Sometimes I think there is something wrong with me.  I live in a city, a big concrete jungle. The nearest open space is 50 miles (and 4 hours on a Friday afternoon) due east from my home. Parking vehicles on the street has almost been outlawed in its entirety and forget owning a plot of land with space for big toys.  Fun has been all but outlawed in the name of safety in this big mass of huddled people called Southern California....however, whenever I see something like this, I can't help but want to hit that buy-it-now button.  Find this 1960s Alvis FV620 Stalwart 6x6 Amphibious here on eBay currently bidding for $5,400 with a few hours to go, located in Santa Clarita, CA.

Boatsozoku Style: 1990 Reliant Rialto Robin, Amphibious

Combining things into a bi-cultural fusion is all the rage these days.  You can hardly take a drunk walk through any major downtown without stumbling into an Asian-Euro fusion restaurant featuring some ill-conceived melange of Swedish meatballs and Vietnamese soup, all served on a open pit BBQ.  Why not bring this fusion concept into the automotive world, perhaps take a British 3-wheeler and turn it into a Japanese gangster styled speed-boat...like this 1990ish Reliant Rialto Amphibious Thing offered here on eBay UK currently bidding for £495 ($749), located somewhere near the Thames in the UK.

Maki Some Noise: Follow-up on a Unique and Rare Breed

We get some good email to the Daily Turismo tips account (I'm talking about the random folks asking in ALL CAPS "DEAR DAILYTUORIGMO - HOW DO I BUY YOUR MERCEDES, IS IT STILL FOR SALE, HOW MUCH IS MINIMUM YOU TAKE?") and then we get some excellent email...such as an email from Mr FixItKirk.  FixItKirk was responding to an article published some time ago about a little known and obscure amphibious car called the Maki.  At the time of publishing we didn't know squat about the Maki, in fact we simply said "this latest car has us in a bit of an information black hole" and then proceeded to ridicule the seller's poor grammar...etc etc..its the basic DT formula - why do I feel the need to keep repeating myself...wait, don't click BLOCK SITE FOREVER on your firewall just yet...keep reading..
