Foxy Roadkill: 1992 Ford Mustang LX

Welcome to Roadkill, a long lost DT feature where we post cars for sale seen on the side of the road by readers and staff.  I'm not sure why you would go Old Skool when you are selling a car, maybe you are tired of the infamous Craigslist Flake.  Anyway, here's some fresh Roadkill I saw on the way into work this morning. Cyclo-Killer: 1982 Subaru BRAT:

by Matt -- Forget for a second all of the obvious reasons to want a BRAT; the jump seats, the stickers, the 5-speed 4x4 goodness. The real reason to have this Roadkill trucky-type- car-like thing is the dash-knob- activated Cyclops light that flings itself out from behind the Subaru constellation like a disproportionately sized shooting star. In the unlikely event that you are presented with the opportunity to pass, the user simply activates the center lamp which in-turn causes the offending driver to either move right or wildly gesticulate and brake check you through the back glass of his diesel Escort. Find this one rust free, just out of 20 years of indoor storage, and with all the goodies in Charleston, South Carolina for the otherworldly sum of $2,500 via the side of the road.

What Am I? Roadkill

It is Monday morning, time for our weekly game of What Am I?, but today we've got a twist. Of course there is always an angle, but this is something else that I found at the parking lot near the Edelbrock car show in Torrance, CA this past weekend.

Roadkill: 1960s Saab 95

This next roadkill feature comes from Wayne who writes:  Here's a treat straight from the main drag in Bluff, Utah, land of sand and rocks and sun. A late 60's (early 70's?) Saab 95. Asking $900.00 with a salvage value of about $300.00. Used to run, she said, but is needing electrical work. Better hurry the owner said it was going to the crusher this week if not sold. Not listed anywhere except in front of this gas station. Also not running. Contact XXX.XXX.XXXX Update SOLD (note: if you are reading this after Oct of 2015, there is a good chance the car is long gone, so please don't call Leah and offer to trade your slightly used snowmobile, a mint condition garden gnome collection, or a box of salt for this thing).

5k: 20 Footer Roadkill: 1970 Opel GT

 The Opel GT was a compact sports car built by GM's European subsidiary Opel from 1965 to 1973.  The little Opel was called the poor man's Vette due to its styling similarity with Chevrolet's C3 Covette and was sold and maintained at Buick dealers in North America.  The Opel GT has been cheap enough for years that scores have been crushed and sometime soon we expect the remaining cars to start appreciating...maybe?  Find this 1970 Opel GT offered for $4800 in Stevens Point, WI via craigslist.  Tip from John.

2k Roadkill: Holy Guacamole: 1976 Toyota Hilux

Time for another of DT's "finds" from the street...aka Roadkill. This one really hits close to home, and I was torn about whether to share it or covet the find and entertain ideas of adding vehicle number 1,204 to the fleet...but cooler heads prevailed and here it is on the site. Just yesterday I found myself reminiscing about my dad's old avocado green 1975 Toyota Hilux, and I said to myself: "self, if I ever find a decently clean green '75 Hilux short bed, I'd like to turn it into a sleeper with a later engine swap, kind of like the Toyota version of Gary Narusawa's Datsun 620 pickup named Walter." Then not one day later I see this avocado green Hilux short bed for sale...but blast, it's a '76! Khaaaaan! Coronado Roadkill - MotorCars on Main Street: 1972 Volvo 1800 E

I attended the 2014 MotorCars on Main Street Car Show on Coronado yesterday and was very pleasantly surprised. Lots of very nice cars, most of which were from owners who live right there on Coronado. A slew of nice Corvettes, a gorgeous Jag XKE Coupe a handsome red Mercedes190SL with hardtop, and the gaggle of Volvisti shown below.

2k: Roadkill: 1970ish International Harvester D-Series Pickup

Today's roadkill feature comes from DT regular AbnMike who sent us pictures along with the following note:

Saw this International as I was driving today. it's in Butte, MT. Looks to be in great condition, original paint. Some surface rust on the paint that you can see if you zoom the pics but no cancer in the typical places.  It was locked so I couldn't get a good interior shot with the glare from the sun but the interior looked to be in good shape, dash wasn't cracked up.  The seat was covered in a cheap Mexican blanket so not sure what it looks like under but I would assume it's in good shape given the rest of it.

5k: Salt Flats Custom Motorhome, Oldsmobile 455 FWD Power

Today is the final day of the 2013 edition of Speed Week, the annual festival of horsepower on the salt put on by the Southern California Timing Association (SCTA), out on the Bonneville Salt Flats just east of Wendover, Utah. This editor was out "on the salt" earlier this week for day-job duties but happened across a very enticing find. Check out this "1971 Oldsmobile" custom motorhome, which near as we can tell, was built on a GMC FWD motorhome platform which uses a 455 cubic inch (7.5 liter) Oldsmobile V8, front wheel drive and "bogies" in the rear suspension meaning there is no intrusion into the living space from driveshaft or axles. This allows for a very low, compact motorhome with plenty of space inside. The featured RV has a custom fabricated body and was apparently built in the mid '70s and has had only two owners. It is lives in Montana but is currently in Utah and offered for $6k, or $7k with matching car trailer (contact info in the text below).

10k: Roadkill: 1976 (or 77) Oldsmobile Cutlass 442

Whenever I find a nice condition, reasonably priced "Roadkill" at a local car show, it always seems to be huge, brown, and Malaisey (see this one as an example). No matter, I will continue to photographically and textually share anything I stumble across in person that seems to be rare, interesting, or exceptional in some way. More like exceptionally awful in most cases. Today's was from a street fair in downtown Torrance, CA and is a very clean and very orangey-brown Oldsmobile (Cutlass) 442. This is either a 1976 or '77 model from the looks of the front fascia and headlights, but if someone knows for sure, please chime in! The seller is asking $8500 and we must assume it is located in or near Torrance CA, but the phone number is shown after the jump. Update: commenter PJ pointed out this must be a '77 based on the Oldsmobile badge being in print vs. script. Thanks!

Edelbrock Rev'ved Up 4 Kids Car Show 2013

On the first weekend in May, gear heads around the South Bay Los Angeles flock to the annual Rev'ved Up 4 Kids Car Show, located in front of the Edelbrock Factory in Torrance, CA.  Last weekend the Daily Turismo sent a contingent of staff reporters to sample the vintage cars, gourmet food, live music and kids games/fun.

Roadkill Roundup: Mining For Gems At Ruby's Redondo Beach

We hope that the Daily Turismo is frequented by car nuts like us: always on the lookout for something weird, cool, powerful, and cheap (or all of the above) to tool around town in and have a bit of fun with. Also if you're like us, you too check out local cruise nights and car shows every once in a while...but you are not the lawn-chair show goer who spends all week polishing their '57 Chevy only to spoil it with a fake "crying kid" leaning against the bumper wearing a crocheted sweater. What we mean to say is, in our roundabout way, that a local low-stress casual car show can be a good place to find your next Daily Turismo, if you know what to look for...and what to steer the hell clear of. Follow along as we check out the cheap classic car market at our local Ruby's Diner "Cruise at the Beach" in Redondo Beach, California located steps from the Hotel Portofino, site of the finish line for the infamous Cannonball Baker Memorial Sea-To-Shining-Sea Trophy Dash.

DT Success: Monday's Roadkill Volvo 1800ES Has a New Home!

Well that was quick.  The Volvo 1800ES featured exclusively online via the Daily Turismo yesterday was snapped up by one of our readers within hours of posting.  We recieved a short note from the seller:

10k: Swap Market Find; 1973 Volvo 1800ES; Roadkill

We at DT are constantly scouring the internet looking for interesting, affordable cars because there are few barn finds to be found in the metropolitan areas of Southern California where most of us spend our drive time. However, yesterday, DT's grey-haired cub reporter found this really nice 1973 Volvo 1800 ES for sale by the mechanic/painter who just finished restoring it to its former glory.  Here's the catch. He did the work for a customer who couldn't pay.  He now owns the car and is only looking to recoup his costs out of it, that's why it is for sale for just $7,950 as shown on the sign in the window.  The seller, Bill, is located in San Diego, California and can be contacted directly via Email and phone number listed below.This 1800ES is sold!
 

2k: 1960 Studebaker Lark VIII Wagon; Road kill!

 The Studebaker Lark was a compact car initially released in 1959 by oddball make Studebaker, assembled at their South Bend, Indiana manufacturing plant.  The numerical designation (VI or VIII) on the side of a Lark doesn't refer to model generation as is typical of similar era cars, it actually designates the number of engine cylinders (I6 or V8).  This DT writer was driving down the street near King Harbor in Redondo Beach, CA and stumbled upon this orange/white 1960 Studebaker Lark VIII for sale by owner for $2200.

DT Roadkill Update: Baby Cobra

Snake experts say that baby cobra bites are the most fatal because they inject their entire venom supply into their victims instead of metering out a small amounts like an adult cobra, but we think that baby cobras are lighter, faster and more maneuverable than the grown up version. We are talking about V8 swapped Austin-Healey Sprites here, because we share Indiana Jones' fear of real snakes. We received an email from the seller of this Rover V8 equipped Bugeye and wanted to share it with our readers.
